Wednesday, January 31. 2007Follow-up to Fanfiction Gone Wild - 'Get a Life Loser'
At first I wasn't sure whether to be irritated or amused by an e-mail we received in the Webmaster's e-mail account. The message was a reply to the report I sent to an author/artist and also posted in the blog before this one. I guess it's funnier when you don't take into consideration that this kid feels that she can do as she pleases anywhere she wants online.
This kid is nothing but a spoiled brat. Granted, the report I typed up and sent her for the deletion of her fiction was harsh. This author broke at least half the site's rules, and it showed a lack of respect for the site and the readers. This site is home to over 130,000 registered members. Though only a portion of these members are active, they post stories and art on a daily basis. Over 100 fictions are updated daily; this does NOT include new stories, only existing ones. Most of those who violate the rules do it unintentionally or have not updated their fictions when we update the rules to reflect changes. Not so with this author and the few like her: they abuse the site. Ever wonder why readers have to wade through piles of crap to find anything worth reading? Read the reply we received back and then you won't have to wonder anymore. Get A Life Loser My reply to this is: Grow up. Offically we (myself and the mod staff) will be sending out the following e-mail and then removing the account. I'm sorry you chose not to listen to the rules. Whether you like the rules or not is up to you - however, if you choose to use THIS SITE, you must abide by the rules. Again, the reply on our end is quite harsh, but we deal with this more times than necessary. Frankly, we are tired of it. Thank you to all the members who make an effort to follow the site's rules; you are the only reason we don't just say forget it and close down the Fanfiction portion of the site. There are always a few bad apples in the barrel. Don't be discouraged - I for one and I'm sure many, many others really appreciate the care and attention you give this site! Good writing is hard to find and, alas, good fanfiction even harder. But here the odds are for rather than against finding both.
I knew this response would be good. Everything mentioned in her statement is silly.
If he/she even bothered to notice the entries on the side of the fanart and fanfiction section-I'll stop and leave that alone. Why did she think authors and stories and so on were vanishing?! The image comment made me choke on my drink. For everything she/he said you could have done far worse. You were not harsh you were honest and up front. When you join this site, there is absolutely no way to miss seeing the rules. If they are stupid just do not join it's simple. I never understood why people have a hard time typing disclaimers and so on when these same people can write a 100,000 word (less or more) fanfiction. Honestly, I love the people on this site! The admin team has always been wonderful as well as the moderators. I have seen what some other sites are like; I cannot tell you all how wonderful it is to be here on Mediaminer. A lot of site owners now run moderated communities because of people like the one(s) mentioned. Thank you for pushing on! Honestly, that's "flat-out nOOb", as people would refer that too.
And I nearly had a heart attack reading the comment she made. How in the world do you not consider plagiarism "goggle-searching the picture without permission"?I would have also thought she had more sense than to write a "summary" in the first chapter. That's insane! Either way, you guys said it a lot nicer than what I would have told her. And I applaud you for that. You guys may have to deal with all this, which is something I probably wouldn't even have the patience to do. You know, I must admit, my appreciation for the admins here grows with each passing day. I can't believe some of the annoying people you have to deal with each day. Thanks for keeping up the good work, I don't think you're thanked enough ^_^
Good job. Sometimes I wish I could help you out, but I suppose that for now all I can do is say thanks once more, and more power to you. ( And I said summary inside because my summary is so long that I didn't wanna put it there since it's so long! )
Okay, honestly, I think she's a taco short of a combination plate. She needs to go back to grade school and learn some sense. Go, Mods~! Your answer wasn't harsh, it was being truthful. Come on! Any fanfiction author with any sense would read the rules before doing something THIS stupid. I'm actually glad she'll be outta here. One less n00b author on the site. Everything she said was silly. And she was rude; people like her do not deserve to use mediaminer, or any other fanfiction site if their not going to follow the rules.
"Plagiarism I can understand. Excuse me! I found the picture on google.com, Okay?" Well, googling a picture and calling it your own IS plagiarism, right? I am really astonished by her...ignorance and impudence. And I agree with Cece, your reply was not harsh: It was honest. People like her need to hear something like that; it's probably the only way for us to get things through to their thick minds. I think you guys are doing a terrific job, please continue!!! >^_^ Just a line of thought...rules are here to be followed. No if's or but's or I don't like them! Tough! If you don't like it, don't join the site. This site is so far better managed than DA will ever be!!!
Hot dang, some people are just plain stupid. I'm a 17 (ALMOST 18!!!) girl and I'm in my last year of high school. I know for CERTAIN that they drill the whole "Google, ASK, Yahoo and what ever search engine you use ALL HAS COPYRIGHTS on their photography and websites they list...because those belong to someone...So don't steal or you'll get your academic ass kicked" into your head,in basic terms. Anyways, I know that this journal-ish thing was written in '07 but I couldn't help but write a comment-y review-ish reply. Good job, people like this nincompoop should all be kicked immediately. And ... well graghh... Anyways good job. I love this site! Yay for retaliation to un-intelligence! Hoo-hah.
