Chapter
Anissa stepped out of the cab in front of her father's house. Every other weekend, in the summer, she would switch back and forth between her mother's house and her father's and stay for two and a half weeks. She wished her sister would do the same but Alyssa never wanted to go to their Mother's and their Mother always refused to let her come when Anissa asked if she could."I'm not having a punk child like her in my home. She and her black clothes and her attitude can stay out on the streets. I swear, Alyssa is too much like her father for her own good. There is nothing, nothing about her that came from my family line. Nothing but her looks and with the clothes she wears, all she does is make our beauty seem so dirty!" That was their Mother's excuse.Anissa didn't bother to knock, she had a key. Alyssa and their father had given it to her because she often ran away from their mother when she got fed up of her mother coming home late, after drinking at least three beers, pulling in a man that was also drunk.Inside, the place was normal, not dirty or unclean, as their mother had described it so 'nicely'. It had clean carpetting, a few stains here and there from when something was spilled on accident, nice furniture, a average sized tv, stereo, vcr and dvd player, all of them clean and payed for by both Alyssa and their father. Personally, Anissa liked it here, over her mother's home. It didn't smell of lots and lots and lots of cleaning supplies or of maids and butlers running around, following her mother's every word."Hey, you guys?" she called, walking up a set of stairs to the room that was hers. Yes, she got her own room when she went to school where her mother lived and was never there. Alyssa kept it clean for her though and dusted every four or five days. "I'm home!" This... was her home. Mother's house was like a penitentary, where she had to things and couldn't do things that were... 'uncouth'.Her sister, Alyssa, stepped back through a doorway, fumbling with something in her hands."Hey, sis. I gotta go pick up something for dad at the job site for his day job. I'm picking Rena up afterwards to go to the mall. You wanna come with? Oh, you left your bag of nail polish here last time, by the way," Alyssa murmured, eyes narrowed as she focused on the rag that was in her hands. Quickly pulling a hand away, she tossed Anissa a black bag from the doorway. Her nail polish."Yeah! I still want to buy the cd I wanted last time I was here! Mom said it wasn't suited for young girls like me so I have to buy it here.""If she yells at you for it, tell her I bought it for you. I owe you money for last week anyway and plus, she hates me and I hate her so it wouldn't really matter.""You got it!""Anissa. We do have to go home, you know.""Yeah, yeah, I know. I can't go to places like this at Mom's, she won't let me go anywhere on my own. She's afraid I'll get snatched off the street by some goth guys on motorcycles that have skulls on them. She was purposely talking about your friend, Nick, who is also my friend and Rena's and Shugo's! I need to get a new diary that I keep here because she keeps reading the one at her house.""You've told us that already," Rena sighed, smiling in good humor any ways."I know. I never get tired of talking remember? And I forget I say things so I say them again and after I say them a second time, I remember that I already said it. See? i'm doing it again.""Can you shut up for once and hurry up? Shugo and Balmung wanted us to meet them in Sakura Blossoms... half an hour ago," Alyssa said flatly, in annoyance."Really? I thought they told us to meet them at three o' clock," Anissa replied."It's three-thirty!" Alyssa and Rena shouted at the same time. "You have taken four hours to look at the same pants and the same t-shirts in the same store." Easily enough said, both Rena and Alyssa were getting impatient."Fine, lets go!" Anissa muttered, hugging a pair of pants that she really liked then laughing when Alyssa sighed loudly and pulled her away almost roughly, rolling her eyes as she did.The things Anissa did sometimes."What took you guys so long?" Shugo asked, watching as Kayane, Rena, and Anissa walked up to him and Balmung, forty-five minutes late."Oh, nothing. Anissa was taking her good time while we were in the mall, staring at the same clothes for four hours," Kayane informed, ignoring the glare she was receiving from her younger sister. "So-o-o anything new happen while we were... held-back?""Some players were attacked by a data-monster and are both now in a coma. The monster disappeared right after the players were deleted," Balmung explained, reaching down a hand to Kayane as she came up to the tree to climb up to the branch she usually sat in. "Officials are investigating still and are denying any access to the area where it happened.""When did it happen? Do you know?""Last night. While their entire families were asleep. They weren't even found till early this morning around four-thirty. Investigations started around six-thirty, when police confirmed that is was from the game they were playing.""How old were they?" Anissa asked, looking up at her sister and Balmung.Suddenly, Balmung looked extremely solemn, and anrgy at the same time. "Only nine years old."Anissa gasped, along with Shugo and Rena, their faces turning pale at the thought of young children fighting a data monster. They weren't pretty things and fought coldly and unfairly, leaving its prey scarred even if it lived to tell."But- they-" Rena stuttered, trying to figure out how to say what was on her mind and how she felt."They were so young, I know," Balmung finished for her. "They just had thier birthdays less than a week ago too.""They were related. Twins, right?" Kayane asked. "One a boy and the other a girl.""Yeah. Identical twins. Healthy and all. Someone in the game asked them to meet in that area at that time of night. It was a set-up. Someone wanted them to be attacked by that monster and be deleted."At this, Kayane and Anissa both turned red in the face. They knew all too well about being set-up. When they were three years younger, Anissa at the age of twelve and Kayane at fourteen, the same thing happened to them. Only they arrived early in the hopes of preventing a surprise attack. And it worked. The data monster arrived while they were hidden behind trees and they left the area before they were spotted. After that, Kayane never let her sister go anywhere in the World without knowing exactly who it was she was meeting and if the person was trust-worthy as well."Who was it that asked them to go to that area?" Anissa asked, her voice serious and cold."Better yet, where were they deleted? What was the name of the area?" Kayane interrupted."It was called 'Akai Nami'... 'Red Wave'.""It's the same place," Anissa stated."And, no doubt, the same damn person as well."Anissa spun around, ignoring the confused looks from Shugo, Rena, and Balmung as she stalked over to the Chaos Gate. She heard Kayane land on the ground and follow her, and she could also here that Balmung had jumped down a split second later. Shugo and Rena ran up to Anissa and blocked her way to the Chaos gate.Kayane looked up at Balmung when he had took hold of her elbow and spun her around to make her look at him. "Where are you going?" he asked her, looking over at Anissa, who was stopped by thr twins. "I told you that they won't allow access to anyone but officials.""So? Let's see them try to deny me access," Kayane challenged, jerking her elbow out of his grasp. "If they try to, or if they lay a hand on my sister or one of the twins, I swear, I will-""You won't do anything. Because if you do, you'll get suspended or maybe even expelled from the World! Besides, they aren't going to lay a hand on any of them because you guys aren't going to go near them or try to go to that area." Balmung waited for Kayane to say something, but she didn't say a word. All she did was stare defiantly into his eyes, her eyes the only thing betraying that she was angry, behind that expressionless mask."Fine. I won't," she sighed finally, looking away from him and over her shoulder at her younger sister and her friends. She walked past Balmung and stalked off into the trees. It was either have balmung follow her every place she went through the Chaos Gate or have some time alone in the trees. As much as she liked Balmung, she wanted him to want to be with her, not to make sure she didn't go to that area and break her word. "It's either stay and not say a word if I don't want to bite somebody's head off or be alone and scream and everything," she muttered to herself, swinging her katana at the weeds in front of her path. "Stupid. Why did those kids even listen? I thought they still taught kids about internet safety in school, but I guess not," Kayane growled darkly, her feet making loud thuds in the dirt."Uh oh," the three fifteen years olds said at the same time, their different pitched voices creating a chord."She's mad now, Balmung. She went into the forest to be alone,"Rena informed."Yeah," Shugo agreed. "She would've just gone up into the tree again and glared at all of us if it wasn't that bad but--""She didn't. You better go and apologize or she won't be in a good mood toward you for awhile." Anissa crossed her arms, as well as Shugo and Rena, all at the same time."You're kidding me. It's my fault?" Balmung took a step back at the look Anissa was giving him and the one Rena was giving him and the one Shugo was giving him. "Fine, I'll go and try to talk to her." Balmung turned around and walked in the direction Kayane left. He was going to have one hell of a time finding her in the forest. Or not. He came across the cut weeds and branches that Kayane had brought down with her sword.Something told Balmung that talking to Kayane was not going to go well.To Be Contnued...
