A/N: Hi everyone! I was just out of the mood of writing for X+Y so I decided to do something a bit different. Everyone who reads my fics or knows me from message boards and things knows that I LOVE Osamu, right? Right. If you don't, you should. I'm the Osamu Queen!

Okay here's the deal so far: This is set in an alternate universe. Osamu is grown and has a child. His wife, Sara (yes from X+Y. I didn't have anyone else!), died in a car accident when she was 27, leaving Osamu to raise their 1 year old daughter alone. This is kind of a side story to one that I'm planning on writing when I get through with X+Y (For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, look at my other stories.) Osamu has been married twice already. Once to Inoue Momoe, but they divorced because their jobs were getting in the way. Then he met Sara, fell in love, got married, had a kid, then she dies. That's all you need to know so far!

Ichijouji Osamu didn't have a clue what he was going to do. Here it was, two in the morning, and the baby was screaming. She had been sleeping through the night for almost a year now, but lately it just seem as though she wanted to give him a hard time.

Sighing, the young man climbed out of bed and drug himself to his daughter's small room. Picking her up from the crib, she seemed to calm slightly, but not that much. "What's the matter, sweetie?" he asked, trying to make her be quiet. Of course, the one year old was unable to tell him what was wrong and just simply cried.

Sighing again, Osamu walked into the living room and sat down. `Thank goodness I don't have a job anymore.' He thought. `I'd be fired within two days. Well, looks like another night of no sleeping.'

He figured he could call his brother. Ken would probably be at work at the moment, or just getting off. He picked up the phone and dialed the cell phone. "Hello?"

"Hey Ken, it's me."

"Oh hey Osamu. What are you doing up?" Ken's voice sounded confused.

"Alicia is crying again. What did you do when Kenley was this age?" Osamu asked, talking about Ken's own daughter.

"Well, I had Miyako." Ken replied. "We took turns getting up with the baby. Doesn't she sleep through the night yet?"

"Yes." Osamu said. "She's just upset about something. What I don't know, she looks okay. And her diaper isn't dirty. What do you think is the matter with her?"

"Hmmm…" Ken was silent for a moment. "Has she been to the doctor?"

"No." Osamu replied. "Why, do you think she's sick?"

"Well," Ken said. "She could have an ear infection. That doesn't make babies to happy most of the time. Call Jou tomorrow and make an appointment. He'll help you out."

"Mmm'k." Osamu said, sleepily. "Thanks Ken. Well, I better go. Bye."

"Bye."

"Dr. Kido's office."

Osamu held the phone against his shoulder as he held Alicia on his hip. "Hi. This is Ichijouji Osamu. Yes, the actor." He rolled his eyes. People still knew him for what he was. Some things would never change. "Anyway, I need to make an appointment. I think my daughter may be sick. 10:00." He looked at his watch. 9:00 a.m. "That will be fine. Thank you."

As he hung up the phone, Alicia grabbed the cord, amazed by it. He laughed and pried it from her fingers. "No sweets. We've got to get ready. We're going to go see Dr. Kido." At this she giggled, then made a face. He laughed again.

Getting the baby ready was not an easy task. She was fussy and didn't like the fact that her father was trying to put her into decent clothing. With her shirt halfway on, she started crying again. No more like screaming. Osamu stopped and picked her up and held her for a moment, trying to calm her down.

Sighing, he finished dressing her, despite her cries. He felt sorry for the little one, and wished her mother were here. She had only been gone a month, but it seemed a lot longer to Osamu. Raising a baby wasn't easy. He now felt very sorry for single teenage parents.

Picking her up and carrying her to the car, he turned to look at the little garden in the front of the apartment. He and Sara has rented one of the nicer apartments in Tamachi, ones that were on ground level, had a small fence and had a tiny yard with a flower bed in the front. Sara had worked so hard to keep that tiny flower garden alive and looking nice, but it hadn't been watered in days and weeds were beginning to sprout. But Osamu just didn't have time to fool with a garden and raise Alicia at the same time.

*Flashback*

"So." Osamu said, looking at his wife. "A baby, huh?"

Sara smiled softly. "Yep. Hey, I'm excited. I've always wanted kids. This is like a dream come true to me. But, what do you think about it?"

Osamu turned and looked his wife in the eye. Unusual for Japanese custom, usually a Japanese person felt uncomfortable with eye contact, but since Sara was American, there was leeway. "Sweetheart." He said. "This is great news for me too. Momoe never wanted kids, you know. She had to stay skinny for the pictures. I've always been in the middle. As long as you help me raise them, I'll be just fine."

Sara stood up on her toes and kissed him. No matter how much older she got, he was always a head taller. "I promise, I'll be there. Always and forever."

*End Flashback*

`That was a lie Sara.' Osamu thought. `You aren't here. And I'm the only one this little one's got.'

Alicia had stopped her wails and looked up at him. The look she was giving him almost made him cry. She was just so innocent. Light blue hair hung down to her shoulder, slightly curling at the ends like her mother's used to. Deep violet eyes stared up and the young man with such innocence, he hoped that would never be broken. Besides her hair and eyes, Alicia was so much like her mother. The face, and even personality.

Osamu strapped the squirming baby into the car seat, her giving a giggle as he tickled her belly a bit. Starting up the car and backing out, he almost ran over a curb, which his neighbor gave him a dirty look for. Alicia was happily jabbering in baby talk in the back seat.

"Da-da!"

"Hi sweets." He looked in the mirror to see her pointing at something. The radio.

"Wad dat?" He managed to make out.

"It's a radio sweets." He turned the switch on and turned down the volume. One of Sara's CD's was in the player and was currently playing a love song.

`Cause I'm dreaming of you tonight.

Till tomorrow, I'll be holding you tight.

And there's not where in the world I'd rather be,

Then here in my room, dreaming about you and me.

Osamu made a face. `Selena.' he thought. "Not in the mood.' He flipped the song. A country song came on the radio. Tim McGraw, he remembered Sara saying the name of the singer somewhere. Osamu really didn't pay attention to the lyrics, for he didn't need to be crying while driving.

It's your love

It just does something to me,
it sends a shock right through me, I can't get enough

And if you wonder,

About the spell I'm under,

Oh, It's your love. Oh it's your love.

Alicia listened to the song, and smiled a toothless grin. Osamu smiled from the front seat at his delighted daughter before frowning as she started to cry again. Thankfully, they pulled up at the doctors just as she really got bad.

The doctor's office was a nice clean office, white walls, maybe a few pictures. Jou had just begun practice and didn't have that many patients, so Osamu got right in. "Hey there!" Jou greeted, smiling at the pair.

"Hey Jou." Osamu said breathlessly. "Thanks for letting me in."

"No problem. What's the matter?"

"I think she's got an ear infection." Osamu said. "She's crying a lot and is started to tug at her ears today."

Jou looked into Alicia's ear. She didn't seem to like this, and reached out for her daddy. He felt his tiny hands grab is finger and hold on like there was nothing else in the world. "It's an ear infection alright." Jou said. "A bad one too." He bent down and smiled at Alicia, tickling her tummy. "No wonder you were so upset."

Osamu laughed. "Well, her dad isn't doing a great job at taking care of her."

Jou stood up and looked at the younger boy. "Osamu, you're doing just fine. She'll be all right. You've been through a lot. With the car accident and losing Sara, you're going to be a little preoccupied."

"I guess." Osamu said. "I just hope I can do this. What am I going to do when she gets older? You know, like when she's sixteen and bringing home guys? I can't deal with that on my own!"

"Sure you can!" Jou said. "You're going to have to. You've got no choice. Unless you want to marry again."

"No thanks." Osamu said, picking up his daughter. "I've had enough of love to last me a lifetime. My first wife and I divorce, my second dies. I'm not getting married again."

"Suit yourself." Jou said. "I'll have some ear drops ordered for you. You can pick them up in about thirty minutes." He walked him to the door. "And Osamu." The young man turned to look at him. "You'll be okay."

"Thanks Jou." Osamu said, and exited the building. "Well," he said, addressing his daughter, who was again giggling. "That wasn't so bad was it?"

"'Aedy!" She squealed, grinning. "'Adey!"

Osamu raised an eyebrow at his daughter, laughing. "What?" he asked. She just giggled some more. "You're a strange child, you know that." Just more giggling. Osamu got back in the car and flipped on the radio again, changing it to another CD of Sara's. One that didn't have so many love songs on it. "What to listen to, what to listen to." He mumbled, flipping though the songs. He came across one that Sara had always loved, one that he was quite fond of himself. Why, he didn't know, he just did.

I've heard there was a secret cord,

That David played and he pleased the Lord,

But you don't really care for music, do you?

It goes like this, the forth the fifth.
The minor fall, the major lift,

the baffled king composing, hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Osamu started singing with the song, his soft voice slowly putting Alicia to sleep. The next moment he looked up to see Alicia's head lolling to the side, sound asleep. "So that's what it takes to get her to sleep." He whispered to himself. "Well, know I know." He smiled, slowly drifting into his own thoughts, but still paying attention to the road. He jumped as his cell rang.

"Hello?"

"Oh hi dear." His mother spoke. "The party with in the Inoue family is tonight. I just wanted to see if you were coming or not."

"Shoot." Osamu said. "Yeah, I'll be there. Alicia has an earache though, so I problem won't stay the night. Count me in."

"That's great dear." Rika said. "I'll see you then. Bye!"

After picking up the medicine, and putting Alicia into a crib after another crying spell, Osamu was exhausted. He almost regretted agreeing to go to the party, for all he wanted was sleep. He laid down on the couch and within a few moments, was asleep.

*********

Osamu looked over at the passenger seat, trying to see the figure of his wife in the crumpled car. "Sara?" he called out hoarsely. No answer. "Sara?" Still nothing.

Osamu tried to move, but didn't succeed very much. His legs were trapped beneath the steering wheel that had crumpled with the car. So he tried moving just his upper body, desperately trying to find his wife. There. A body. Osamu pulled back something, what he didn't know, that was shielding his view of her. What he saw made him cry out in horror.

Sara was lying crumpled in the seat, just like the rest of the car. Blood was running down her face from a gash in her head. Various other cuts and gashes were all across her beautiful face and her hair was a matted mess. "Sara." Osamu touched her arm. "Sara wake up."

Brown eyes opened a bit and met violet blue ones. The life that was in the eyes he had looked at so much was gone. "Osamu?" she asked weakly.

"It's me baby." he answered. "You're going to be okay Sara. I promise you will." He managed to move her body slightly, so that she was halfway resting in her arms.

Sara shook her head. "No I'm not." She said, smiling slightly. "Don't lie, Osa-chan. I'm going to die."

"NO!" Osamu almost yelled. "No, you will not. Listen to me--" He was cut off as Sara managed to move an arm, wincing slightly, to touch his lips, silencing him. She shook her head again.

"It's okay." Her eyes gleamed. "I'm not afraid. Just do me one thing."

"Anything."

"Take care of Alicia for me." Osamu nodded.

"I promise." He said. "I love you."

She smiled. "I know." `I love you too' in her own words. "You really promise. Don't let anything happen to our baby."

"I really promise." Osamu said, letting tears fall into her hair.

Sara smiled up at him and looked away from him. She closed her eyes and he listened to her ragged breathing getting slower. Finally, after a minute or so, it stopped and the worst silence Osamu had ever experienced in the world followed. "No." he whispered. "NO!"

***

Osamu bolted up from the couch, nearly falling off it. "No Sara." He touched his face and realized he had been crying while sleeping. This nightmare haunted him often. He sat there for a moment, then realized if he was going to make it the party on time, he better get up.

Getting the baby ready again, was no easy task. She was tired and fussy. Her ears were okay for the time being, but they were still bugging her. "Five minutes behind schedule. Come on `Lecia, lets go."

Despite him driving fast, he was still ten minutes late. "Hey everybody!" he said, walking into the apartment where everyone was.

The Inoues were all there. Mr. and Mrs. Inoue were talking with each Mr. Ichijouji. Rika was busy cooking. Miyako, her brother, her eldest sister, and Momoe were all in one corner, busily chatting. Ken was talking with the newest girlfriend that Miyako's brother had brought. `So that's the new one of the year, huh?' Osamu thought. `Well, they've lasted more than three weeks. Must be serious.'

"Osamu!" Momoe greeted. She was long over her ex-husband, but still considered him a great friend. "Great to see you." She looked at the baby. "So this is Alicia?" He nodded. "She's adorable. How old?"

"Sixteen months."

"They grow up fast." Osamu looked up to see Miyako with her and Ken's daughter, Kenley. "I swear, I can blink and she's grown an inch."

Osamu laughed. " I have the exact same feeling."

The evening went well for the group. Alicia was only fussy once and that was when she wanted her Daddy. Osamu took her again after passing her around the room. `Adey!" she squealed again.

"I still have no idea what you're saying."

"She's saying `Daddy.'" Rika explained. "Just hasn't mastered all the `d's' yet."

"That makes sense." Osamu said. He daughter was pointing at the radio and was getting fussy. "Adey!" she said, eyebrows furrowing. "Aujah!"

Osamu looked at Alicia. "What sweets?"

"Alujah!"

"Hallelujah?" Alicia nodded. "You want me to sing that?" She nodded again, laying her head on his shoulder. "Well okay." Osamu took a deep breath and started.

I've heard there was a secret cord,

That David played and he pleased the Lord,

But you don't really care for music, do you?

It goes like this, the forth, the fifth.
The minor fall, the major lift,

The baffled king composing, hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.

You're faith was strung, but you needed proof.

You saw her bathing on the roof, her beauty and the moonlight over threw you.

She tied you to a kitchen chair.

She broke your throne, she cut you hair.

And from your lips she drew the hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Maybe I've been here before,

I know this room, I've walked this floor,

I used to live alone before I knew you.

I've seen your flag on the marble arch,

Love is not a victory march.

It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.

There was a time you let me know,

What's real and going on below,

but now you never show it to me, do you?

And remember when I moved and you,

The holy dark was moving too.

And every breath we drew was hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Maybe there's a God above,

And all I ever learned from love was how to shoot at someone who out drew you.

And it's not a cry you can hear at night,

It's not somebody who's seen the light.

It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.

As Osamu finished, he realized that everyone was looking at him. He looked down at Alicia, who had gone limp in his arms, sound asleep. He smiled softly at her, then looking up and smiling at everyone in the room. "I better get going." He said softly tying to not wake the baby.

Rika nodded, not going to try and persuade him. "I'll call you tomorrow." She got up and hugged him awkwardly. Osamu said his goodbyes and left.

The house was quite lonely when he arrived home. Before, Sara had always been there to greet him when he came home, her smile filling the house with joy. But Sara wasn't here anymore. Just a cold, empty house with nothing but a 27-year-old and a little girl in it.

Osamu slowly made is way into Alicia's room, trying his best not to bump into anything that might wake her. He sat her down in her crib and softly stroked her hair. "Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, hallelujah…" Osamu sang a little bit to himself, just staring at his baby girl, the one he would now have to raise on his own. He bent down best he could, and kissed her forehead. Alicia stirred softly, but didn't wake up.

Osamu looked at the clock. 12:49 p.m. He sighed and made his was towards his own bedroom, again trying not to trip over anything. As he lay down in the bed, he stared at the ceiling, smiling to himself, praising himself slightly for at least attempting to be a good father. He knew one word he would say if he did succeed in raising this tiny being into a woman. Just a simple one, but it fit better than anything else.

`Hallelujah.'
