Gama's Blood Crystal

Chapter 5: Fangs of the sand

Saria re-read the 2nd verse of the Blood Demon rhyme. She couldn't believe that not only had she found it, but she still couldn't quite get what it meant or shake the bad feeling that it brought with it. Meanwhile, Gohan, Goku, and Videl were talking about what was going on and trying to figure everything out. Goten was near by, listening to them, and Trunks was standing by Saria, looking at the ceiling and trying to figure it out. Vegeta was looking suspiciously at Saria out of the corner of his eye, yet he too was staring at the ceiling's design.

All of a sudden, the whole labyrinth shook, as if there were a small earthquake. Everyone immediately stops talking and looks around in guarded surprise. Before anyone can react, tho, a powerful 2nd quake rolls the very floor of the labyrinth into a huge tidal wave of sand. Vegeta immediately leans into it, trying not to get knocked over like the others and succeeds in not getting buried in sand. When the earthquake ends abruptly a few moments later, everyone is covered in sand and scattered away from each other. Several feet down the corridor that Videl had come running down earlier, were Gohan and Videl in each other's arms (of course Gohan's gonna shield her), as well as Goten, several feet from them. In the corridor where the z-gang and Saria had run down before, were Trunks, not too far from Saria, and Vegeta. Vegeta being the only one standing. However, in the 3rd hall was Goku, all by himself.

Everyone slowly starts to get up, wondering what the hell just happened, when the Blood Demon suddenly appears out of nowhere and pounces on Goku, viciously ripping into his neck. Goku's screams alarmingly become gargled as his blood begins to rapidly pour out onto the sand, no one else able to react fast enough to the attack to help. Goku tries to get the Blood Demon off of him, but the creature pretty much ignores him, its mouth dripping with his blood. Then the creature digs its claws deep into Goku's chest and again latches onto his neck with its sharp fangs.

All this in only a few seconds, as everyone can only gasp at the gruesome scene before them. Gohan and Goten get up and charge the creature as fast as they can, but before they can get there, the creature had already dragged Goku into a sinking whirlpool of sand that seemed to come from out of nowhere. And just as quickly disappear with Goku and the Blood Demon in tow. Goku and Goten scream "Iie! Otousan!" as the others abruptly stand up and get into battle stances, prepared for the creature to attack again. Goten and Gohan, tho clearly upset by the whole ordeal, get into battle stances too. Everyone except Saria, that is, who immediately backed a couple steps away from the group, looking around intently for the creature, and obviously scared as all hell, yet determined not to die next. Videl, however, was taking a couple steps towards the rest of the group, completely on alert and almost in a battle stance.

Videl says something in Japanese that had the name 'Krillen' in it, but before anyone could do anything other than look at her in shock, another sand wave, even more powerful than the first, engulfs them all. Trunks immediately grabs Saria and shields her from the wave as he and even Vegeta get taken down and thrown down the hallway, separating them from the others who were being thrown thru the other hallway.

Vegeta was the first to climb out of the sand. A few moments later, Trunks' head emerged. Shortly afterwards, he manages to also climb out of the sand, carrying Saria who then immediately gets down from his arms. The 3 look around them and are completely shocked by what they see. The hallways they had been in just minutes ago were completely blocked off by a wall of sand.

Vegeta walks over to the wall and punches it as hard as he can, but the effect is like a human punching a stone wall. He growls in frustration and turns to Saria with a very pissed off look in his eyes. Saria sees this, but quickly shoves her fear down, making is so that the only way you could tell that she had been frightened at all was thru her eyes. Which she then hides by glancing towards the ground. She hears Vegeta punch the wall again in frustration, and afterword hears Trunks start talking to him. Only to get bitched at. Trunks ignores it and sadly says something about Goku, before looking up at the ceiling.

Saria finally looks back up and leans against the wall, thinking about Goku and Krillen like the other two. "What the hell is going on here?! If the fucking Blood Demon is on my planet or even another planet entirely, why the fuck is the whole z-gang here? How is it they are even real?? And how the hell can the blood demon be so strong? I mean, even without their powers, they should be able to at least stand a chance at fighting the damn thing!" All of it was pissing Saria off as well. She remembered the dragonballs and, since Piccolo didn't look to be there, they could always wish the guys back. But still…

She then looks up at the ceiling, lost in her thoughts. It takes her second because of how deep in thought she is, but then she almost immediately notices the same design on the ceiling from before. And apparently, so did Trunks as he softly says something out loud in Japanese. Vegeta looks at him and then up at the ceiling. Obviously, he noticed it too, because he immediately walks over to Saria.

Saria sees this and looks at him with unease. He stops in front of her and immediately asks her "What does that design mean?" Saria almost jerks in surprise, while Trunks just stares at him open-mouthed. But before either can do anything, he continues on. "I know that it must mean something, you were looking at it too intently for it not to. Now tell me girl. What the fuck is it?"

Saria stares at him in utter surprise. "Not only does he surprise the fuck out of me by knowing English, but he also knew that I knew it?!" Vegeta starts looking impatient and says a little more gruffly "Well?"

Saria finally blinks out of it and replies "I don't know what the design means. I can only read the writings that surround it."

Trunks is completely surprised at this. "But you said you didn't know what any of it was!"

Saria looks at him. "You asked me if I knew what the design meant. I wasn't lying about that."

Trunks looks ready to strangle her for using that old excuse. But Vegeta interjects before Trunks can say anything, by demanding "So then what does it say?"

Saria looks back up at the ceiling. However, this one had a different message. Just like the one that she had first seen. "This one just warns about not taking the Treasure of the Labyrinth." She had quickly read the message and had also noticed that it wasn't really a rhyme.

Vegeta, however, didn't seem satisfied with that answer. And neither did Trunks as he immediately spoke up. "'This one?' What did the other one say?"

Saria looks at him. "Nit-picking my words?"

"You can't be trusted to tell all the truth." Trunks responds.

Saria smirks at that. "Well, it wasn't like I was lying."

Vegeta rolls his eyes and interrupts Trunks before he can reply with anything else. "Quit flirting. Girl, just tell both damn messages."

Trunks and Saria both balk at this and glare at him. Saria almost scowls out her indignant reply of "Flirting?!"

And Trunks responds with "Just because that's how you and mom flirt doesn't mean that we are!"

Vegeta immediately turns on his son with a look that could kill as Saria stares at Trunks in astonishment. Vegeta starts to say something but Saria figures she might as well take a stab at saving his life by answering Vegeta's question. "This one says, word for word, `Touch not the Treasure that lies in this Labyrinth or perish'. And the other message was just the entire rhyme about the Blood Demon."

Vegeta turns to her, no longer ready to murder his only child and looks at her intently. "What?"

"The rhyme says `Touch not the Treasure that lies in this Labyrinth or perish'." Saria calmly replies.

Vegeta glares at her. "Don't try that shit on me. What did you say about the Blood Demon rhyme?"

She sighs. "The other design had the last part of the Blood Demon rhyme."

Trunks stares at her too. "Are you sure?"

"Of course I am. Only I don't remember what it said, seeing as how I only had a few moments to barely read it." Saria says. At both of their disgruntled/pissed-off looks, she sighs and then says "But it may be written down again somewhere down this hall. This is the 2nd time I've seen this design with a similar message."

"And you didn't say anything then?" Vegeta said, definitely upset.

"I didn't read it. We ran off to try and save Videl before I even knew what I was looking at." Saria said as she looked at them.

"Do you remember any of the last part of the Blood Demon rhyme?" Trunks asks.

"No. And it wouldn't do you any good. I had the whole thing right there and I had no fucking clue as to what it meant."

"So then let's try to destroy that wall. The others are on the other side and so is the rhyme. Why wait?" Trunks suggests.

Vegeta and Saria look at him, Saria saying "You know, you look really cute when you're being stupid."

Trunks glares at her, but blushes at the same time. Vegeta looks at the two in slight annoyance and raises an eyebrow. "Not flirting?" Which causes Trunks' blush to deepen.

Saria, unnerved by Vegeta's continued insistance of their flirting, starts walking down the corridor, leaving them with these words: "Well, since there's no way in hell we can get to the others thru that damn sand wall, we might as well try to figure out this maze and then find them later."

Vegeta and Trunks look on after her, then Trunks just rolls his eyes and quickly catches up, walking beside her. Vegeta watches them for a moment before following them both as well.

Explanations/Translations:

~~Iie = (I have no idea how to pronounce that) means 'no' in Japanese

~~Otousan = 'father' in Japanese; actually it's more of the formal way of saying it cuz 'Otou" is also acceptable (this is pronounced = O-toe-sahn)
