What exactly is involved in a Saiyan mating ritual?

We look down on an idyllic setting over the Capsule Corporation buildings. The sky is blue, the birds are singing, and the workers are slowly making their way out of the factories. They chat cheerfully to each other about everything insignificant, looking forward to the up coming weekend, blissfully unaware that in just under two years time two evil androids are coming determined to destroy them all. It was an average Friday afternoon at the largest company in Japan… well how it had always been before Vegeta had shown up. Even now, when the Prince of darkness and all ego's was a everyday member of the Brief family household, the continual curses and explosions that were frequently sent reverberating around the beautifully designed compound had fallen silent. The Gravity room stood empty and the Princely screams were a distant memory to the multitude of employees on their way home. A few better informed members of staff wisely chose to go the other route than risk walking right passed the training room. (After previous close encounters of the Saiyan kind you tended to be a little more weary than normal) No one needed to be on their guard today, though, Vegeta's mind was far, far and away from all thoughts of terrifying unsuspecting humans or even, for that matter, training. He sat on a chair opposite a blank grey metal door with his arms folded and eyes closed. How much longer is that woman going to be in there? How dare she keep me waiting like this? I bet she's really enjoying this! That's the plan was it woman? Wait until the Prince of all Saiyans declares his undying love for you, making a complete fool of himself, and then torture him for as long as possible! Damn baka humans! I should have destroyed this miserable planet a long time ago! "WOMAN! HOW MUCH LONGER IS THIS GOING TO TAKE?"

"THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME YOU ASKED FIVE MINUTES AGO, BUT IF YOU DON'T STOP BOTHERING ME VEGETA I CAN MAKE IT A HELL OF A LOT LONGER!"

I was right she's loving this! Why am I putting my self through this? The previous days activities flittered through his thoughts and a smirk formed on his lips. Oh yeah that's why! Damn Saiyan customs! Maybe I should just forgo…No I've relaxed things too much even taking her as my mate in the first place. I have to do this! It wouldn't feel right it if I didn't! "DAMMIT WOMAN JUST HURRY UP"

"WILL YOU STOP BUGGING ME VEGETA? I'VE MANAGED TO CHANGE MY CHARACTER, BUT UPGRADING THE GAME IS GOING TO BE A LOT HARDER. WHY DON'T YOU GO TRAIN OR SOMETHING? IT'S GOING TO BE A WHILE!"

How does she expect me to train when I now know what its like to touch that ivory white soft skin of hers. To feel the texture of her hair as I run my fingers through it and to hold her small fragile body close to mine with her scent washing over every sense, rendering all other conscious thought useless! "FINE I'LL GO TRAIN, BUT IF I INJURE MYSELF IT'LL ALL BE YOUR FAULT!"

"HA, WEAK SAIYAN! CAN'T EVEN HANDLE THE TINIEST AMOUNT OF SEXUAL FRUSTRATION!"

"WEAK? I'LL SHOW YOU WEAK!" He got up and walked to the door, intent on proving to her once and for all who the weak one was. Hearing muffled giggles from inside made him stop. Hang on? She's just playing with you… ha! I love it when she bitches back! "UGH, THIS IS DRIVING ME INSANE. I'LL BE IN THE GRAVITY ROOM TRYING TO TRAIN, BUT DON'T YOU DARE STAY AWAY FOR ME FOR A MINUTE LONGER THAN IS NECESSARY!"

The Saiyan turned away from the door and began to walk down the hall with his arms crossed and usual scowl sitting resolutely at the bridge of his nose. His ears couldn't miss the, click, as the laboratory door unlocked from the inside. He stopped walking, and peered over his left shoulder in the direction the noise had come from. His scowl lifted and features softened slightly as he took in the perfect vision standing behind him. The sunlight cascaded into the room from a small latch window at the end of the corridor, sending its bright white rays streaming along the hall. They came to an abrupt halt hitting Bulma's body throwing her face into shadow. Vegeta didn't mind. He could see the sparkle of life in those amazing eyes of hers, melting him and stealing her forever into his heart. No one other than the woman standing in front of him could read his emotions and no one other than her could inspire them in him. She ran up the corridor towards him and leapt into his arms, her legs clasped around his fit waist and her chest pressed full in his face as she laid her arms around his thick neck pulling him close. Bending down to rest her forehead on his, she looked into those obsidian eyes that made her heart race and knees go weak. "Vegeta?" she murmured fragilely.

"Bulma?" he growled cradling her in his strong arms.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" She laid her head on his shoulder, "I mean is it really that important, because you know I don't know how long it's going to take and well my parents get back at the end of the week, and well… you know seeing as we have got the house to ourselves…"

For a minute the full impact of having her in his arms and smelling her scent infiltrate every particle of air that surrounded him made him forget himself. He pushed her up against the plasterboard corridor walls, grabbing her beautifully manicured hands in his, pushing his body hungrily up against hers and laying butterfly kisses along her long slender neck. He lost himself in thoughts of claiming her, of feeling himself inside of her, of… He looked into those beautiful blue eyes that haunted his thoughts awake or asleep and influenced all his plans for the future good or bad. The realization that he had to wait dug away at his senses making him stop the attention and bang his head up against the plasterboard next to hers. He chuckled to himself, before turning his head to whisper into her ear. "You're wasting valuable time. The sooner you upgrade the Vegeta-sei simulation, the sooner we get the ritual over with and the sooner I get to ravish you for real." He moved reluctantly away from the wall lowering her gently onto the blue cord hallway carpet. "I have no choice. If I want to do this," he looked sternly into her eyes, "And my Kami I want to do this! Then we have to abide by Saiyan traditions."

"But didn't we get over that with you fathers admission, of whatever, and oh! Just go back to the kissing! That was good!"

Vegeta shook his head, "I told you already! There has to be a ritual."

"And you're sure this is the only way?" she said breathlessly, feeling incredibly aroused by his ravaging only a few seconds ago.

"The ceremony has to take place on Vegeta-sei! Do you have any better suggestions?"

"We could use my Dads spaceship, return to the co-ordinates of Vegeta-sei, and collect some of the left over debris, bring it back here and then…" She stopped mid-sentence when she saw a drop of sweat form on the Saiyans temple. "What?" she shouted indignantly.

"And just how long would you expect that to take, genius?"

"Well this is only a rough guess, because I haven't got the exact coordinates" she announced proudly skipping into scientist mode and forgetting other details, "but I should imagine something in the region of two maybe three weeks"

Vegeta couldn't help but smirk and feel superior, "And how long will it take you to upgrade the scouter?"

"Shit!"

He grinned evilly, "Precisely! Now I'm guessing that the only reason you asked me this is because you aren't as brilliant as you make yourself out to be and that Saiyan technology is beyond your limited human comprehension. Do you need help?"

"Ugh! You arrogant, jumped up… I don't need help with crappy Saiyan technology!"

"Then you came out here just to throw yourself into my arms?"

Bulma blushed, "Well yes and no! I need more details if I'm gonna successfully recreate Vegeta-sei."

"I told you to use the scouter's memory! I'm beginning to doubt that you have any brains at all."

"Vegeta stop being so mean!" she scolded, before remembering that she might as well be telling Master Roshi not to read porno. "Ok scrap that thought, but for your information I did check the scouter's memory, and although the location was described perfectly well, there was absolutely nothing on what is actually involved in the procedure. How am I supposed to make a good comparison if I don't know all the details?"

Dammit, cried his thoughts, she's got a point! But I can't let her know the details! What am I going to do? Maybe the space idea wasn't so bad after all. What am I saying! Three weeks? There's got to be another way. Hold it! She's not the only one with a brain. All I need to do is design an upload a few simple items it can't be that difficult. I'll get the woman to teach me the basics and finish it myself. "Do as much as you can and I'll finish everything else!"

"But Vegeta you don't know how…"

"Don't tell me what I can and can't do woman! Just teach me how!"

"But wouldn't it be simpler and," she winked at him, "quicker to just tell me?"

"Don't get too familiar woman, you're forgetting who I am. Never forget who I am. And as for the ritual, it will be much more enjoyable for me if you don't know what's going to happen."

"I thought we got over all that high and mighty Prince thing?"

"No we didn't."

"Ugh fine have it your way! But you're the one who's going to be suffering because of it!"

"And you're not?"

"Oh go train, and get out of my hair monkey boy!"

He smirked at her and folding his arms across his chest once again walked to the door. "Don't I get the tinciest little clue as to what I've agreed to get involved in?" she called out just as he stepped out of view. She waited for him to answer and listened to him as his white gold tipped boots stopped dead in their tracks. Unfortunately for Bulma she was doomed to be disappointed. All she heard was a snort before the footsteps resumed on their original course to the Gravity room.

The light of the afternoon was waning and the buildings of Capsule Corporation were almost entirely lost in shadows as Bulma slumped over her desk, gravity pulling her eyelids to the floor. Her hand and forearm unsuccessfully tried to support her head, as tiredness hit and tried to win out. It was stopped by the momentum of her head falling from her hands and jolting her awake. Come on Bulma, you've gotta stay awake. Coffee! That's what you need lots and lots of coffee. She walked to the machine that was positioned on the opposite side of her lab, and poured herself a cup full to the brim of the black bitter liquid. Her wrists ached as she picked up the cup from all the typing she had, had to do to reprogram the microscopic computer chip. It was just fortunate that she had kept the translation program she had designed when trying to figure out how Raditz's scouter originally worked. If she had lost that program it would have taken her twice as long to decipher the strange encrypted computer language. In a slightly more conducive state for working, Bulma sat down on the black leather chair of her desk ready to continue. She nonchalantly picked up the soldering iron and picked her spot. Struggling to hang on to the last remnants of her sanity as she bent over the Saiyan machine, and worked by lamplight, was a battle she was loosing fast as her mind started to turn against her, bursting into song. The red wires connected to the blue wire… The blue wires connected to the…Yellow wire… The yellow wires connected to the… "AAAAAAAHHHHHHH"

Meanwhile Vegeta is outside in his gravity room training with slightly more success than he had originally thought possible, but only slightly. He had been in there for over two hours and was only just finishing his warm up. He managed to pull his right arm off the floor as the female computer voice kicked in, "Gravity pressure increasing to four hundred and fifty times planets normal level!" His arm tried to fall to the floor as the g's pushed down, but he just managed to catch it before it hit the cold tiled surface. Gritting his teeth he managed to balance on the fingertips of his left hand and started doing push-ups. "One!" Gotta get stronger! "Two!" Must become a Super Saiyan. "Three!" Have to get stronger than Kakarrot. "Four!" Mustn't think about the woman! "Five!" Mustn't think about mating rituals. "Six!" Gotta think with your head, not your pants "Seven!" Must definitely tell the woman to wear those overalls more often! "Eight!" Who would have thought that such garments could be so… so provocative! "Nine!" Ugh! Gotta concentrate, gotta train, gotta stop thinking about… DAMMIT! "Computer end program!"

"Gravity returning to planets normal level, please stand-by." He glared evilly at the computer, as a need for fresh air took hold. That's the problem with inanimate objects. He sighed. There's no rational way of getting back at them! He stalked unhappily to the door and unlocked the pressurization seal. Fortunately I'm not a rational person! He grinned spinning on the spot and let a small beam of energy escape from the tip of his fingers melting the machine in one hit. Once outside he levitated off the ground and landed on top of the room he had just exited. The woman would probably be a while finishing with the scouter and he could safely look up at the stars and think things through undisturbed. He lent back on his forearms, letting his legs go and looking up at the evening sky. The sun was a fiery red just like it used to be on Vegeta-sei. He remembered the palace that stretched out along the steep canyon. He could see it perfectly. The guard towers, the large prison like walls beyond and the city that clung to its base. Never in all the succeeding years had he ever felt anything close to how he felt about it now.

Trying to remember about the people that lived there was much harder. He vaguely remembered the images of the faces of his allocation of privileged servants, but they were insignificant. The face that tortured him most to remember was his Fathers, but at least he had some reason to be thankful to him now.

He traced his hand along the stretch of sky before him Where is it? He thought trying to get his bearings, but it was impossible. Astronavigation was something that he left to computers to do, that was what they were there for.

Disgruntled by such a pointless exercise he turned away from his stargazing and was surprised to find that he was being watched. How long has she been looking at me like that? He thought caught between anger and admiration at her audacity.

Bulma looked up at him with those big blue eyes transfixed by his trance like state. He looked so sad and dejected as he rested back looking up at the stars. She wanted so badly to go up to him, place her arms around his thick waist and hold him close to her, but she knew that he wouldn't appreciate that, at least not yet. She froze as he snapped out of the trance and stared back at her. Maybe she should leave. The look in his eyes was strange even from him. It looked menacing but controlled at the same time, almost daring her to say anything.

Confused and unwilling to be provoked into an argument, she started to walk away. "I'm sorry, we'll talk another time." She said disappointedly.

Vegeta fazed out of human vision behind her and re-appeared blocking her path, "You're not going anywhere!" he said in tones that he meant to be threatening, but were more determined than angry.

"I'm not in the mood for an argument right now Vegeta!" she spat. "Go play mind games with someone else. I'm going indoors to have a bath, the scouter is ready for your adjustments and I'll teach you the basics in the morning!"

"Stop wasting both of our time and come with me." He demanded, "I have something I want to show you." Saying as much he picked her up and lifted her effortlessly onto the curved roof of his gravity room.

Re-adopting his previous posture he motioned for her to do the same. She did as she was told trying to find space to sit down and not fall off. "You're never gonna keep you balance way over there!" he growled, "You'll have to come closer to me!"

Bulma looked down at him and smiled before moving into the space he pointed to. Only a few inches separated them and she couldn't help but triumph when one of his strong arms dropped around her waist pulling her closer to him.

"So what have you got to show me all the way up here?" she asked, shivering underneath her overalls and snuggling close to his chest to keep warm.

"Well you're the genius," He sneered, allowing his ki to flare up around them. "I'm going to give you some coordinates and you tell me where I'm supposed to be looking?"

Bulma smiled, "Did you just call me a genius?" she asked.

"A slip of the tongue." He growled correcting himself. "Now let me see if I can remember. In Chikyu terms it should be bearing NU4983521JX."

"Gees Vegeta, you don't expect much do you?"

"You got to Namek didn't you? I really don't see any of the Z warriors being able to figure it out. So come on! Tell me whereabouts that is! It's been annoying me ever since I got wished back to this Kami awful planet."

"I'm going to need a star map."

"Use the scouter."

"Oh ok!" she said placing the machine to her ear and snapping it into place. "Now let me see… If the setting is NU, then that has to be across this side… and to the right, which would mean the remainder are...? Kuso what was that again Vegeta?"

"Huh what?" he asked mesmerized by the brilliance that he had glimpses of whenever he looked into her eyes as she worked.

"Did you say 521 or 621?"

"521," he replied still trapped in her gaze.

"Ok so that's the remainder that are 521… which makes for that… Yeah I got it!" she yelled triumphantly.

"So where is it then?" he asked impatiently.

She held out an arm and pointed to a position just above the horizon, "You see those four stars in a diamond shape over there? There are three dull ones and one bright?"

He nodded his confirmation and allowed her to continue.

"Well the coordinates that you gave me are just below the bright star and to the left. I'm guessing that they correspond to a planet in that suns orbit. Am I right?"

"Yes and no." he replied with a sigh. He stared off into the sky in the direction that she had shown.

"So there used to be planet there?" she replied catching on to what was going on, "Was it Vegeta-sei?"

The Saiyan didn't say a word, but slowly let his head drop into a nod. She thought for a brief second that maybe he would say something. He opened his mouth as though he wanted to, but something made him stop and he looked away. "What was it like?" she asked staring out at the setting sun and resting her head on her raised knees.

"Vegeta-sei?" he inquired.

"Yes!"

"You probably know as much about it as I do now!"

"Aw come on there must be something you can tell me?"

"Why do you want to know?" he asked getting more than a little on edge at her inquisitiveness.

"I'm just curious that's all!" she replied, "I want to learn more about you!"

As she spoke he looked across at her. An almost sorrowful expression glided over his features. At length he said, "No you don't."

It was little things like that which made him all the more intriguing. "Why?" she asked hoping to draw him out.

"My past is not a pretty place." He began almost doubting if it was wise to continue, "Sometimes even I don't like to think about it."

Bulma heard the resentment in his voice and felt her stomach knot in compassion. "Was it really that bad?"

"No!" he replied still staring straight at her. He let a smirk curl at the corner of his mouth. "It's all I have ever known. Fighting is what Saiyans are good at! Killing is my forte. Why waste such a talent?"

"You don't have any regrets then?" she asked relieved at the sarcasm in his voice, even though what he had said was far to close to the truth to be really comforting.

He shot her a glance of fire, "No!" he replied stepping into his defensive security blanket, "Now are you going to show me how to upload information to this thing or not?"

Not allowing her anytime to answer he picked her up and placed her gently back down on the grass of the Capsule Corporation lawn. Bulma was confused, but followed him to her laboratory anyway.

Vegeta was anxious not to say anything that might piquet that curiosity of hers any further. He was trying hard to block out what he had almost told her. He had very nearly said yes, and told her the truth. That she was his only regret. If only he hadn't met her. Then he wouldn't mind how anyone perceived him and he wouldn't care about his past.

Ok that's the first chapter. Hopefully you shouldn't have to wait too long for the next one, but please, please, please R&R and tell me what you think!
