CHAPTER 8: The New Ligers

"Kevin, help me with the capsule!" An old man addressed a child about 5

or 6.

"Yes, Grandpa. Siege, come here!" A blue-green Organoid had been

sleeping on the massive couch in the living room. It got up, and walked

outside.

"Come here Siege."

The boy, Kevin, played with the Organoid, distracting it while his

Grandfather slipped massive pieces of steel armor around the Zoid's legs.

Then, arms, and chest. Siege flinched. He knew something was wrong, but

he trusted his Partner. His Partner had said to let Grandpa fix him up,

so he did. As the armor snapped around his back, he noticed that panels

covered his thrusters. Then, the Partner's son, Kevin, slipped the head

armor onto him, while Grandpa and the Partner slipped armor on the

tail, and connected the circuitry. He felt better, but still heavy. Then,

the metal capsule in the backyard was open.

"Dad, help me with the Cryogenic System for the capsule!" cried Siege's

partner. "Kevin, get Siege over here!"

"Sure Dad!" And the little boy grabbed Siege by the hand. Siege walked

obediently into the capsule, and made himself comfortable. As it

closed, Siege realized he would never see his partner, or their family. A

tear rolled down his cheek, and the little boy, Kevin, had started crying.

His mother called him…

"Kevin!"

"KEVIN WOULD YOU WAKE UP, GOD DAMNIT, WE'RE IN TROUBLE!!!"

Kevin's eyes snapped open.

"Oh." He'd been dreaming. 20 years later, and he still dreamt about it.

His wife, Leena, stood in front of him, ready, apparently, for Battle.

"What is it, Leena?"

His son walked in. "The Backdraft. They're attacking. And, dad?

Yeah?

I was right. They DO have the Death Saurer. The REAL Death Saurer.

OK. I'm taking Spiner." He was referring to his Ultimate X Zoid, Dark

Spiner.

"Doc, The Jungle and Hunter teams have already mobilized, and Harry's

on his way, ETA 25 minutes" In the control room, battle preparations

were going on at a frantic pace.

"What's The Backdraft's ETA?

"23 minutes.

SHIT!" Bit Cloud interjected. "So much for Harry's help. Any help to be

expected from the commission?" He asked the team's tactician, and Air

support pilot.

"Huh, Bit?

Yeah?

Don't freak or anything, but look behind you.

Wha…Oh. Good Morning, Sir." Bit greeted the chairman of the Zoid Battle

Commission.

"Good morning, Bit. Haven't seen much of you lately.

I've been traveling, Mr. Chairman.

Well, then. I'd like to talk to you. In private.

Uh…sure.

Follow me." They stepped outside, and into a waiting Jeep, which led

them to the nearby Ultra Saurus.

"This, Bit" He said as they entered the hangar "is your Liger Zero. An

Ultimate X. And these," he pointed across the Hangar, to a dark

maintenance bay. "Are standardized versions." The lights came on, to reveal

two royal-blue Zero type Ligers.

"NO WAY! You are NOT going to…

No, of course not. They're non-Ultimate X test platforms for the new

systems we've designed, and which you are now going to test in battle:

The Thunder System is a high-speed, close range Zoid, a blend of Jager

and Schneider. It is, however, three times faster than Jager." He

showed Bit a ruby-red armor system on an Imperial Test Platform.

Mach 1.5? No way!

That, over there," He said, pointing to a midnight-blue Blade

Liger-like system, "is the Nightstrike System. Slower, smaller, and much more

maneuverable than Thunder, it is based on the Blade Liger, and ideal for

most forms of combat. It--

--I'm takin' that!' Bit interrupted.

Good. One more, thing; we've allowed ourselves to install an Energy

Shield, as well as a Stealth shield and multisensor in your Liger Zero.

All Zero Ligers, including the Empire's single LZ-X2 unit, are also

equipped with them. The shield controls are on the opposite side panels:

Stealth on the left, energy on the right. The multisensor activates on

startup.

Cool. Wait a minute, I thought Ligers were republican?

Yes, with the exception of the Zero X, alongside which you will be

fighting. Specifically, its Imperium system.

Wait, the Zero X? I thought…

You and everyone else. The Backdraft captured one of the two

mass-production version. It is not an Ultimate X. you will, for this mission, be

attached to Megan Zara's Ligers team.

What? THE Megan Zara, the mercenary? Isn't she Imperial?

Yes. And young Kirkland, here, will replace you at the head of the

Blitz team.

Yo. Actually, I'm just taking your Job, not the lead!" said the Gun

Tiger pilot.

Wow. Didn't the Backdraft back you guys up?

Yeah. I ditched'em after they tried to replace me. And I wasn't alone

either." He answered, and looked back to 4 Warsharks, 3 Genosaurers and

a Hammerhead. One of the Warsharks was painted a deep blood red.

"Wel look what the cat dragged in! The Fuma Team." Bit quipped, as the

renegade pilots arrived. " I never thought I'd ever be glad to see you

guys.

"Likewise." Was the answer, coming from the captain of the team.

"Well, then. Everyone MOBILIZE!" ordered the Chairman.

The Fuma Team took off, in their GenoSaurers. The Captain took her

Warshark, and was joined by a team of Heldigunners and Stealth Vipers.

"Well, Sarah. We're ready.

Yes. General Prozen, are you all set?

Quite indeed. Came the contemptuous voice of the Empire's most trusted

general, and a traitor on behalf of the Backdraft Group." Then, out

came the Death Saurer, the Death Stinger, and every last one of the

Backdraft's Zoids. Spino Sappas, Sinkers, Warsharks, Zoids as far as the eye

can see.

We are in deep shit, Kevin." Came Kirkland's voice.

"Yeah. Say, where's Bit? Is he gonna skip, or has he got some kinda

trick up his sleeve?

"Nope, no tricks here!" And a handsome, midnight-blue Zoid advanced,

followed by a similar, black-and-blue one, and dozens upon dozens of

Ligers: Shield Ligers, Blue white, and red, jet-black Leomaster Shield

Ligers, Snipe Ligers, Slash Ligers, Blade Ligers, as well as 6 new Shadow

Ligers and 3 Liger Zeroes; 2 blue, one red. This was the Ligers

Team.

"Hope we're not late!"Bit called from the Liger Zero Nightstrike

Then, 4 GenoSaurers, 6 Stealth Vipers, Mike's GenoBreaker, and a

dozens of Warsharks, one of which was red. Also, Raynos, Storm Sworders,

Pterases, Redlers, Pteramanders, Hammerheads, Whale Kings. The sky was

filled with Zoids.

Both sides charged, and the Blitz Team knew, even as Harry Champ's 250

Zoids joined them, that they were outnumbered a hundred to one…at

least.
