~Strange Feeling~

Chapter 1

My name is Sonia.

I'm just an average girl, really. I have a normal life, a normal house, a normal family.

Actually, scratch that normal family.

And to be honest, my life is a bit too hectic to be considered normal.

I have 3 older half sisters, and one younger one. Sandra, the oldest at 17, is the wildest in all of us. She's always getting into trouble with the cops, but still always charmed her way out of it. Actually, I don't really know how she manages that. She just does, I guess.

Annie and Hannah are twins at 16. Annie's kind of an internet nut, and doesn't seem to really care that she's never had a boyfriend. Hannah's the exact opposite. She has a new boyfriend every week, and usually breaks up with him after just a few days. It's always the same story. Really pathetic.

And that's it for my mom's first marriage. For her second one, there's me at 15. Her and my dad didn't stay together for very long, so I'm the only one who came out of it. Probably for the best.

For mom's third marriage, she had Lily, who's 13 now. Lily's a little strange. She's always a bit distant, and doesn't seem to have any friends.

You're probably wondering why I haven't said much about myself. Don't worry, I'm getting to that. I'm what some people call an Otaku. In other words, I'm obsessed with Japanese Animation. It drives mom nuts, she can't stand it. In fact, she said once, and I quote: "Can't you go one day without talking about that Fushy Wushy thing? It's really annoying hearing about it day in, day out."

To which I usually answer, "It's not Fushy Wushy, it's Fushigi Yuugi."

But anyway...

Today, as I was sitting down to read a new manga [1] that I had bought, my mom entered the living room with kind of a distant look on her face. I looked at her strangely.

"Rough day at work?"

"Sonia, sweety," She said, sitting down in a chair across from me, "I have some... rather surprising news."

I put my manga down. This seemed important, "Go on."

"We're moving."

I blinked, "Where to?"

"The States."

I looked at her in shock, "The States? As in, the place you didn't let me go to for Otakon [2] because it was you thought they were 'Too dangerous'?"

She sighed, "Yes, that would be it."

"And we couldn't have moved there before Otakon?"

She hesitated and bit her bottom lip, "It's because of Lily."

That made me shut up. You see, there's a little something about Lily that I didn't mention. She disappeared about a year ago. One day, she just didn't come home from school. The cops didn't find any hints as to where she could have gone.

"Wh... What about her? Did you find her?"

"I think so. I was watching an American news report, and I saw a girl in the background who looked just like her. Or at least what she'd look like now."

"Are you sure?"

"No, but... I don't want to take the chance of loosing her again. Just in case."

I nodded, "I understand. When are we leaving?"

"In two weeks. I know its short notice, but it should give us enough time to pack and for you guys to say good bye to all your friends."

"All right. If it's for Lily, then I won't complain, for once."

My mom got up and smiled, "You're a good girl, Sonia."

I blushed, "Mom!...."

Chapter 2

So that's how I ended up in America.

Our first day there, it really didn't seem much different from Canada. It still doesn't, actually. The weather was a bit warmer, but other then that, it was basically the same. My mom was definitely exaggerating when she said the States were dangerous.

I arrived in Chemistry class-- about a week after starting at my new school-- just before the bell rang and took my seat. The teacher threw me a glare. She always liked to start class right on the bell, and tended to get grudges against students who arrive last minute. I sighed in relief when her attention was turned away from me by a boy walking in after the bell.

The girl sitting next to me laughed, "Don't worry. The teacher may seem strict, but she isn't that bad."

I looked over to the girl talking to me. She was really pretty, with long blonde hair and blue eyes. She almost seemed to be a super model, actually, if it wasn't for the wild look in her eyes. A look that said she loved adventure and knew how to get it.

"Yeah, probably," I answered in a whisper, "Though I'd like to make a good impression on my teachers... At least for a little while... That way they tend to forgive me when I slack off in my homework by the end of the semester."

The girl laughed again, "Good plan," she held out her hand, "I'm Rachel, by the way."

"Sonia," I said, shaking the said hand.

Not much else interesting happened in that class, except for the fact that Rachel kept glancing towards me as if there was something about me she was trying to figure out, but just couldn't place her finger on it. I got that a lot. There was definitely something strange about me and the rest of my family, though I honestly didn't know exactly what it was.

I nervously tugged on the sleeve of my tee shirt when felt her gaze on me again, making sure that the gold, chain like birthmark on my arm wasn't visible.

After class, I noticed Rachel whispering something to a short, african american girl, looking around nervously. When she saw that I was watching, she quickly tried to cover it up by laughing and mumbling something that I didn't really hear. I narrowed my eyes. What was she up to?

Smiling, they walked up to me, "Hey, are you going to the dance Saturday?"

"Yeah," I responded, deciding to ignore what just went on, "I bought my ticket yesterday. You two going?"

"Yeah. This is my friend Cassie, by the way."

I shook the girl's hand, smiling, but I couldn't shake the feeling that they were planning something.

"By the way, I know this is a bit weird, but can I ask you something?" Cassie said with an embarrassed smile.

"Go ahead"

"Well... You see, a friend of ours can't find a date to the dance, and asked us to help. Would you like to go with him? He's really very nice, I swear, but he always tries to act too cool, so most girls kind of shy away from him. His name's Marco."

So THAT's what they were discussing. Well, I have to say I was relieved, "Sure! Actually, I think he's in my math class. Is he kind of a class clown?"

"Yeah," Rachel said, rolling her eyes, "Big time."

"I'd love to, then! He seems nice enough, and he's pretty cute."

"All right, then, I'll introduce you at the dance."

"Great!" I responded, walking away. Well, that was a nice surprise.

Little did I know....

~End of part 1~

[1] manga: Japanese comic, usually translated into either English or French.

[2] Otakon: An anime/manga convention that's held in Baltimore, MD.

(So, what did you all think of the first part? Good? Bad? Wanna torture me for ruining such a great series? *shrugs* Anyway, I started this fic a REALLY long time ago, but I kept re-writing it and now it's okay. :D Soooooooooooo, please review, and expect a bit less cliché in further chapters. Trust me, I'm not THAT pathetic. As for those wondering about the title.... Well... Don't worry. I will explain it. Eventually. ;) )
