Chapter 2

Swords clashed and warriors fell from the high skies, and it seemed the forces of Veluria did have
the upper hand in this battle. After hours, if finally ended. Even if the Meturians were at disadvantage,
they did put up quite a fight. Arriving back at Veluria, the injured warriors took a rest. The General was
glad they did not lose so much men, but even so, all of this had caught Ezinel's attention. He could not
keep his comments to himself about the king's wreckless choice. Barging into the throne room, he
began to speak to the king, concerned.

"Sire, what was all that about? I mean, how you sent those warriors off into a fight without a real reason!
You DO know the Meturians can bring war upon us at anytime because of such actions that were taken!"

King Hazen shook his head a little and began to speak, his voice tone hightened.

"Do not question my choice! I shall request for your assistance whenever I need to. If you were
not summoned at all in this event, then don't even comment about it."

The wizard tapped the end of his staff onto the marble floor, demanding, as he was before.

"But, sire, I really do not see a need for what just happened!! I understand you bering cautious,
but attacking a neutral country upon unit sight-range is--"

His words were interrupted as Jiro ran into the throneroom, tugging on Ezinel's green robe.
Just sighing and closing his eyes, Ezinel turned away from the king and began to walk off and
towards the exit, later taking his leave.

"Come, Jiro...", he spoke. "Let's finish the bit that was left from earlier today..."

The boy nodded and followed his teacher right out, unaware of the discussion that had happened.
He'd never want to worry the boy so badly, and so the man kept quiet of such events, not telling him
a word about it.

...It was nighttime, and Ezinel was outside at the central park of the floating city. Little did he
know, his apprentice had snuck up behind him. Giving a yell, Ezinel returned it in shock. He saw
it was only Jiro as the boy sat down on the bench next to him.

"...You should go get some sleep. It's late and you need your energy for tommorow's lessons..."

Jiro rocked back and forth, replying.

"I couldn't sleep...not sleepy, and I keep hearing voices coming from the counceling room, so...
...I was too scared to check. Could've been ghosts...ghouls...or even ogres!!"

The wizard raised an eyebrow, looking down at the child.

"Jiro...how in the world could there be ogres here, when you're hundreds of feet up in the air?
They have no way of reaching us, the security here is high, and nobody but me has the ability
to summon them, and even so, they'd be under my command."

Jiro blinked a few times, looking up at him with a bit of a shakey voice, being unsure.

"Maybe they grew wings and flew?"

Ezinel scoffed a bit of a laugh and smiled some, looking up at the bright stars that were in the
night sky. It was an amazing sight. Little to no lights were lit in the sky-city at this time, so
all of the shining sparkles could be seen up high.

"Mr. Medivan...", spoke Jiro.

"It's alright. We're not in any lessons, and we're not in front of your father...just call me Ezinel."

"...Okay...Mr. Ezinel...what is it like down there, on the ground? I've never been there or anything...
...at all. Father says that Gaia's surface is full of monsters who eat people up, and it's a huge
wasteland, and the people there are mean, and they don't care for anyone, and huge ogres live
around, and..."

"Jiro. ...To be honest, right now I don't know. It's been a while since I've been down there. Many
stories go around...but most of them are made to scare children, such as yourself."

The boy sighed and looked over at the lake that was at the middle of the park. The subject
had changed completely.

"...Father is always busy. He keeps saying he has no time to play, nor help me study... 'Keeps
saying he has political meetings, that he needs to fix the city to make it better, blah blah blah...
He never really does have any time for anything...except that. 'Been like this ever since mother
died..."

Ezinel raised his hand and patted the voice's head with his gloved fingers, then ruffling
his hair.

"People have things to do...not everyone has so much free time."

Ezinel's words were saying one thing, while his mind was off somewhere else. He stared
down at the child as he remained quiet, looking at him which such eyes a father would
give to a son. He always was the one that took care of him. The only thing he could not give
him was a place to stay at, since the king already has that ready, but if he could, he would,
and gladly as well.

"...Look, Jiro, clear your mind and go get some rest. Tommorow, if you want, I'll get you a big
sundae, with all the toppings you want... I know your father wouldn't allow it, because it isn't
healthy, but a single dessert from time to time never hurt anyone. Just, don't tell him about it."

The boy nodded with a bright smile, begining to take off towards his place.

"Oh, and by the way...also, for tommorow, I'll be giving you that present I promised you a year
ago."

Jiro yelled a thank you which practically woke half of the people around up. He waved
and went off, excited.

Night passed, and the sun rose. Another bright day it was for Jiro as he finished taking his
breakfast. Putting on his usual clothing, he made his way towards the throne room, where
his father usually was. He greeted the few butlers that crossed paths with him, and they
returned such greetings with a bow. Wanting to surprise his father, Jiro slammed opened
the doors before himself.

"HI!!", the boy yelled upon entrance.

Ezinel turned hastily and looked down at Jiro with eyes wide opened. "Jiro!"

Blood was splattered across the boy's face and clothing as several bullets entered Ezinel's
body, in all vital points. The body held a bit of a standing position, as the wizard raised his head
at Jiro, showing a small, warm smile, and with a cough of blood, he fell down lifelessly, on the
floor. Jiro's bright, brown eyes were widened in shock, confusion, fear and anger, as they had
been locked upon Ezinel during the whole event. Tears began to rise from his eyes as he started
shaking, looking over at his father and yelling, enraged.

"W-...what did you do?! Why?! He didn't do anything!! You killed him and he didn't do anything!!
Why?! I-...I HATE you!!" the boy yelled in pain, tears rolling down his cheeks.

The General with his six men smirked a bit and lowered his head, turning towards the king.
Hazen dispatched them out the back door while speaking to Jiro.

"He was useless...and besides, last night, he was causing me some trouble... He was just a
thorn in the side, a rock in the way..."

Jiro had ignored his father's words, kneeling down and shaking Ezinel's body over and over,
begging for him to wake up. He was the only real friend he had. He saw him more like a parent
than a teacher. Sliding out the small knife he had in his back pocket, he rushed at King Hazen,
seeing Ezinel was truly dead. The boy was kicked backwards in the face by a new assistant of
the king that had entered Jiro's path of aim. It was a new person, he had never seen him before
in his life. Such traits. Long blue hair and an over-all cape, along with royalty add-ons around his
clothing, as well.

"Should I...sire?", the man requested.

And with the king's permission, a vortex was made in the middle of the room. It dragged Jiro's
injured body in along with Ezinel's staff. Destination? The wastelands of Gaia.
