Stained Innocent Eyes

Crimson blood stained the lands of Hirado, thick clouds of smoke filled the dark skies, cries of sadness and panic could be heard from miles away, and families were torn apart, as well as away from friends. This was all happening during the burning of Hinotake castle. It was more of a battle as lives were taken away by not only the fire, but of swords by their rival country. Clashes of swords, and spears was all that was heard, besides the cries and screams of pain that was effected by the slashing of each weapon. Bombs exploded from many ends of the empire, yet no matter the intensity of each sound, it never did overcome the yelling that the people had help with the effort of the pain that many could see through each other's own eyes.

All this witnessed by innocent eyes, eyes of a young child, no older than the age of four. Tears could be seen coming out of her from the back of her wide and confused eyes. She looked around not knowing what to do, for there was fire at one end, and blood spreading from the other. Everywhere there was turmoil all around, and all she could try to call to was her own mother:

"Okaa-san! Dokodeska!? Okaa-san!"
("Mother! Where are you!? Mother!")

She yelled out for her mother as much as her lungs could, however, without knowing that her mother was not so far, dead. Dead with her skin as cold as ice, and her eyes that showed emptiness and nothing else. Blood trickled done her mouth, and to complete the picture, there was a sword stabbed into her chest, through her heart. Stabbed the one part that held the love for her own daughter, but now her daughter was alone. The child looked around still, trying her best to ignore all the cries around her, for she herself couldn't help crying. She frantically looked around her surroundings, despite the blood and guts being ripped right in front of her very eyes. Her eyes finally spotted what she's been looking for all this time. Her eyes widened, and water crystals fell from her eyes. She ran towards her mother, yet when she was just a meter away, she began to slow down. As she stood before her mother, she kneeled down to touch the woman's pale face, then jerked back quickly. She cried even more, until a hand touched her shoulder and startled her. She looked back, seeing a man in heavy loads of armor. Being a child, she didn't know it was a soldier from the enemy's empire, yet she still needed someone. She ran to the man and put him into a strong embrace, much to the stranger's surprise. He returned the hug with soft eyes and looked at the child, who had a frightened look:

"Sir, what's wrong with mother? Why is she so cold? Is she O.K.? I miss her… Please tell me she's O.K."

The young soldier didn't know what to say kneeled down to the child's height, and gazed upon her eyes. He felt sorry for the young girl, for it hurts to lose someone close, and he knows. However, he knew she carried more pain, not even knowing the truth, especially since she was so young. He said the only thing he could:

"Your mother went to a better place, away from all this hatred. She went to the heavens where all the gods would take care of her. Don't worry, she's fine… up there."

The girl's eyes widened, and she smiled. She was happy for the good news, and felt safe in the warmth of the stranger's kindness.

"Really? Will she be happy up there? Can I go there too?"

The man's eyes widened at first from the reply, yet they softened and he nodded. The young girl shrieked with happiness, but there was a short feeling of pain, yet it went away in a matter of seconds, and she smiled at the man one last time. The man had stabbed her with his sword, trying to make the pain as quick as possible so as the girl wouldn't suffer much of it. As he saw her smile, and gently closed her eyes, he picked her up. He laid the fragile body right into the mother's arms. Right after that, he left to fulfill the rest of his duties, at the same time, he wished he was in the embrace of his own family as well.
