Campus of Lost Chronicles

Prelude

I suppose what most individuals think of their lives depends mostly on the past. I am no different. Most of my life has been filled with the desire of vengeance and a lust for blood…the blood that made me how I am at this very moment. The blood that started me down this never-ending path of darkness. There hasn't been a day gone by that I wish I could change what happened that time in North Gustaburg, outside of the Republic of Bastok. I see it now…every damn day upon endless day like a continuous movie reel burning into my brain. It shows me no mercy. It shows me no end to what I endure.
I don't actually remember my parents or if I had any siblings. I cannot recall most of my childhood except that until the young Elvaan age of 19, I had lived in the Kingdom of San d'Oria and that I never felt welcome at any time by my own people. Despite this however, I had something to cherish…well more like a person. Her name was K'sayyah Doriath, and as I always hid in the shadows of my alleyway home, I would always never wish to miss the delicate glimpse of this angel and the beautiful sound of her voice when she would sing or just hum. The townsfolk feared me, I could feel it…for I also feared them. But no matter how many times I would see K'sayyah, I could always feel my soul become at ease. It even gave me the courage one day to come out of the shadows and produce a smile towards her. A smile that ignored all the ridicule and grotesque comments of the other children and adults around me. This was indeed one of my happiest moments. However, this happiness was never meant to remain, as it became shrouded in the melancholy memories of a darkened cloud upon the horizon of emotional chaos.
Ah, but these days, such a thing ends up being as important to most as a fly on a wall. My name is Sevron Ariota. I am a student enrolled into the Odin University, at the Upper Campus located in the Grand Duchy of Jeuno, in this world known as Vana'diel. I am an Elvaan male and due to my racial blood, my appearance benigns my true age of 81 years…equal to that of a young adult, roughly around 20 in Hume years. My majors involve Blood Magic and the Dark Arts, as well as a couple minors mixed in here and there. During my time here, I have met quite a few individuals…the sort of individuals that one might say it was fate that we met. I suppose now would be the time I tell my story.

Chapter 1: Arrival in Jeuno

The alarm by my bed did not hesitate as usual to awaken me for my classes. It was the first day of the new semester at Odin and I couldn't help but wander in my mind about what was to happen this time around.
“Good morning kupo!”
“Hm? Ah morning Moogle, “ I replied with a heavy yawn.
“Time to go back to training again kupo. How do you think today will go, kupo?”
“Most likely nothing more expected than the usual routine,” I exclaimed, changing into my common attire consisting of black cargo pants, red trimmed black military-style boots, plain white shirt, and an overlay of a blood red button down shirt. My shirts were mostly always the same, just with different designs - my favorite having black flames that faded to silver at the bottom. I couldn't help but feel tired this morning, which was mostly due to being awake most of the night thinking about the past like I always do. It didn't matter to me really. I had no reason to stand out much within the crowd of importance.
“I'll get breakfast ready kupo!”
“Ah, don't worry about it Moogle. I'll pick something up on the way to class.”
“Alright. I'll be heading out on my errands now kupo, “ Moogle remarked as he vanished like Moogles do.
I took a short glimpse out the window of my Bastokan residence towards the morning sky. “Looks a little on the dark side this morning, “ I sighed. “Might rain later I suppose.”
After staring about the outside scene as I normally do as if in a trance of some sort, my hypnosis state was soon broken by a knock at my door. Snapping to and with a crack of my neck I made my way over and opened the oak door to see a Hume with long brownish hair standing there with his wyvern perched on his shoulder.
“Ah, hello Fenthryx, “ I said with a slight nod.
“Ya ready yet? Maybe this time we can try NOT to be late, “ he remarked with a laugh.
I don't know too much about Fenthryx aside from what he reveals. He was quite simply a Dragoon, or Dragon Knight as I like to call them. To be honest, I haven't known him for very long, but since we became neighbors and went to the same campus, why not travel to it together?
“Yes. Let me grab my gear first, “ I replied to him as I walked away to retrieve my gobbiebag and then returning back to the door and stepping out, locking the door.
“So what's your first class Sevron?”
“I have no idea, “ I sighed. “Moogle forgot to pick up my schedule yesterday so I need to get it when I get there.”
“Oh. Well lemme see what mine is, “ Fenthryx said with a curious voice and taking out a folded white sheet. “Oh yeah that's right. `History III'. Heh…I wonder what we're gonna cover this time.”
“I actually forgot what we covered before the break. But most likely we'll have Professor Romaunt again and you can bet he'll give us a test right at the start about what we learned in the previous semester.”
“Ha! No kidding. And you know just as well that if you don't pay attention…he'll MAKE you pay attention.”
I gave a slightly annoyed grunt by this thought. I learned my lesson the first time I had him. I may not remember all the historical events Professor Romaunt taught, but I do remember my own desk being sliced in half. Trying to remember all that happened long ago for me wasn't going to be an easy task. Even during the wait for the airship to Jeuno with Fenthryx, I was lost in thought. It couldn't be helped. I knew I couldn't remember anything in such a short time, but I had to at least try to recall something so I wouldn't come off as an idiot. Fenthryx just stared at me confusingly, waving his hand in front of my face, but to no avail. I didn't flinch nor seem to even notice that we had already docked in Jeuno.
“You really need to stop thinking so hard Sevron,” Fenthryx exclaimed as he shook his head. “Anyway I'll see ya in class.”
“Yeah…right. See you there,” I replied quietly as he ran off then walked to the exit myself and entered the familiar area of Port Jeuno. I could hear the hustle and bustle of seasoned adventurers at the auction house below my feet as well as other travelers around me. This was nothing compared to the crowds of Lower Jeuno however, leaving movement slow at best, that most have begun to refer to it as `lag'.
I stretched a bit before stopping at a nearby bazaar for an apple pie and a yagudo drink and then going over to the side of the bridge-like area to eat as I stared out into the ocean below. For some reason I was feeling strangely uneasy, only to jump a little to a poke in my sides and turning around to Mithra, of whom I knew to be Trysta Noires. Her outfits were usually always the same color scheme - a plain white tee that was short that it would show her midriff, short dark green shorts, white leather knee-high boots, and her favorite corsage in her slightly spiked white hair.
“Don't you ever get cold wearing th-“
“I've been waiting forrr an hourrr Sevy!” she exclaimed to me with a fume.
“Didn't you know classes started an hour later this semester?” I questioned with a twitch.
“…Oh. Damn that Moogle! . I knew he was up to no good when I caught him scrrrounging through my underrrwear drrrawer! Then he trrries to tell me to get going so I won't be late,” she growled.
“Eh heh…right,” I replied with a sweatdrop.
Trysta is what you'd typically call a tomboy or even a tease, despite her girlish side as far as appearance and personality. She had to be a little tough since she was into treasure hunting at times and even moreso, a Knight. Yes, Trysta is basically a Paladin-in-training which to me is ironic due to her…well…her personality. I met her long ago in East Sarutabaruta outside of Windurst while on a task for Bastokan officials. She had been surrounded by Yagudo, the bird-like beastmen, so I gave her a hand. Needless to say we pretty much became friends that day, but this was long before the darkness started taking hold of me periodically. She told me she lived in Kazham, a jungle town a ways from here as a kitten until her mother died of an extremely rare illness, then made her way to Windurst by chance and lived there ever since, taking care of herself by the only means she had - thievery. Taking care of herself all these years became a self-taught form of survival, instincts, and well…theft. She prefers to call it `treasure hunting' instead since saying she was a thief outright would cause some trouble. This was, I think, one of the reasons she went down the path of a Knight not too long ago, I suppose to `atone' for having to steal to survive. I don't know if there was another reason or not, but the one strange fact I noticed about her was that she was always attracted to other females. It's not like I had any jealousy about her not being attracted to me because basically she was the first Mithran I had ever met and also because at the time I had someone else in my heart. That solitary soul however had long since faded, and lately I even found myself having my own attraction to these humanoid felines. It has even become apparent to myself that I seem to stare at Trysta at times for obvious…reasons. To put it more specifically, the Mithrans had the kind of bodies that one may call `blessed', especially since they were also known for their high agility. Mostly I think it has to do with the ears and tail.
“Hey. Sevy. Whatcha thinkin' about?” she quirked at me with those bright blue eyes and yet another poke at my side, the hypnotic sway of her long tail and the twitch of her left ear.
“Uh…n-nothing. We better get going,” I said with a light blush.
“Mrrrr…” she purred with a slight raise of an eyebrow. “Yeah…rright. Let's go.”
And with that we took off rather speedily towards the stairs to the next level of Jeuno and into the massive crowds as we entered the area, slowly making our way to the next flight of stairs to Upper Jeuno.
