Fighting and Free

The plane was quiet after that little revelation, but I wasn't going to
drop anybody else in it or confirm anyone's identity. I knew Wufei and Trowa
were identified as Gundam pilots, as was Heero, from the news. Lady Une
hadn't mentioned Quatre or myself though, and I wasn't going to enlighten
them.

Walking to the back, I grabbed Wufei's clothes. I'm sure he'd appreciate
getting out of the skirt and he really didn't have the legs for it. But he
did look kind of cute in it and I grinned again. Not that I was going to
tell him, I'm not that stupid you know!

I walked back checking everyone was secure on my way, and nodding at
Heero and Quatre to confirm it. Quatre was still looking a bit pale, with a
slight frown. I think his leg was bothering him.

"Q? How bad is that break?" I asked.

"It's going to need setting, if that is what you are asking. I'd rather
that was done with painkillers than right now. The paramedics will want to
check everyone out when we land but if you, Wufei and Heero meet whoever it
is we are meeting then we can hand over the prisoners and I can go with one
of the ambulances. Only problem is, one of you is going to have to come back
and get me after your done handing them over, as I don't think I should be
walking on this. "

I was concerned, if it was a normal or normal-ish break, Quatre would
have insisted in helping. But he had now asked Heero to carry him over here,
and now indicated that he didn't think he could walk on it, that sounded
like the bones could be misaligned. I put Wufei's clothing down, and slid up
the leg of Quatre's pants carefully, not listening to his soft
protestations. The skin was not broken, which was good, but I could feel see
a lump. I didn't need to feel it.

"Uh, Heero, I think Quatre's right. Looks like a closed displaced
fracture to me. He'll still be ok to shoot anyone who moves," I glared at
our hijackers, so they wouldn't get any ideas. "But he will need to see a
doctor, soon."

"Hmm. What's our ETA?" Heero asked me.

"About twenty minutes, ten for landing, say half an hour."

"Go and give Wufei his clothes." Quatre gently suggested.

"You think you can hold out for another half hour without medication?" I
checked before leaving. Can't give him anything if he's likely going to need
surgery.

"Go! Go on." Ok, I was going to take that as a yes.

Back in the cockpit, I handed Wufei his bundle of clothes and he stood up
as soon as I had sat down in the co-pilots chair and put the headset on.

Checking the transponder I noticed Wufei had set it to 7700, the general
emergency squawk. Turning around I caught a look of his bare back as he just
slipped off the shirt he had borrowed, though he was still wearing the
skirt, and my mouth went dry. Yum. You can really tell he works out. Though
defined, his muscles are softened by beautifully smooth and soft looking
skin. With a few scars of course. None of us got away without them. But even
they did not mar him, they belonged and they merely emphasised how dangerous
he really is.

With all of my willpower I turned back after he put his normal shirt on,
and as he started slipping off his skirt. I had a shuttle to fly after all.

After a few seconds a voice came through on my headset.

"ATC for shuttle Lima Tango Oscar one-zero-niner-niner, how do you read?"
That was us.

"Shuttle Lima Tango Oscar one-zero-niner-niner to ATC, you're coming in
five by five." Communications was clear as a bell and plenty strong enough.

"ATC for Lima Tango Oscar one-zero-niner-niner, do you require a
talkdown?" Aw, that was nice. No, I think we could manage to land the
shuttle without any extra instructions, as long as they told us which runway
to use, and were to put it when we were done.

"Lima Tango Oscar one-zero-niner-niner here, negative. We do not need a
talkdown. " I replied. Not that anyone else should be using this band, we
were using the emergency frequency after all! But convention dies hard
especially if there is no reason to break it. This was a shuttle, not a
Gundam.

"ATC for Lima Tango Oscar one-zero-niner-niner, roger that. Let us know
when you are starting your decent." Good. They would have given us priority,
and would talk us through landing the shuttle as they would any normal pilot
by the sound of it.

"Lima Tango Oscar one-zero-niner-niner for ATC, wilco. Out. " We'd be
starting decent in about ten minutes, so I thumbed on the intercom.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, Hijackers and Preventers, we will be starting our
decent in ten minutes. Please fasten your seatbelts, put your seats up and
follow any further instructions from your stewardess." Well, I had no clue
on passenger procedures for a commercial plane!

Wufei sat down in the pilots seat next to me, and I briefed him on what
we were doing.

He insisted on landing the plane, insisting that if I did it we would
need far more ambulances, as everyone would have had a heart attack. I
didn't mind, I just sat back and watched him work. He moves exactly, with an
economy of motion but still with grace. I only now fully realised how much I
had missed him, and missed my friends. I couldn't wait to see Trowa too! Of
course, they still all worked at the Preventers, part or full time. I
didn't. Maybe I should rectify that, I'd be bored

"Hey Wufei, you think Lady Une is going to be too upset at you guys for
letting me help?" I asked. I didn't want them reprimanded or losing their
jobs because of me. He considered for a moment, then smirked at me.

"Not if you were a Preventer at the time." he answered.

"But I wasn't. "

"Yes you were, you just hasn't signed the paperwork yet. After all, that
is why we came to get you from L2, right?"

Right. They just wanted me for that. My heart crumbled just a little
there. I had hoped they had come for me as friends.

"And Lady Une can't object and neither can anyone else, if we were to
date the paperwork today and you were to sign it today. So once we get to
the office, we need to get Lady Une to hire you today. "

Right, and that would be so much fun.

ATC interrupted us again, as we approached the runway, and we needed our
concentration to land safely on the rainy tarmac. Once we stood still,
Preventers, ambulance and fire brigade workers surrounded the shuttle.

The handover of the shuttle went smoothly as Wufei, Quatre and Heero
seemed to know most of the Preventers in question. They let the passengers
out, organised taking their statements and contact details on the apron and
letting them continue on their journeys once the paramedics had cleared
everyone.

Heero, Quatre, Wufei and myself congregated in the cabin and when some of
the Preventers tried to move me on, Wufei growled at them.

I think they're afraid of him.

Quatre was starting to look a mite pale by now, and when the others left
with our sullen hijackers, Heero walked over and gently lifted him up
without saying anything.

"Yuy will take care of Winner, we need to get the most obvious evidence
secured and have Lady Une sign you up." Wufei suggested.

"Fun, fun. You forgot to mention the Party! The God of Death is back!"

Marie slipped the mutilated earring into my right hand. There was no way
I was going to be able to reach my left wrist with it, so I ended up bending
my hand at an awkward angle.

Marie was watching with interest, so I explained to her about locks,
levers, and how to pick them. It may not be your standard fare, but I think
she enjoyed it, as she bent the other earring and started to try my left
wrist.

We worked quietly and without too much chatter for the next couple of
hours. It took me well over an hour to pick the first lock and it was
probably closer to the end of the second hour before I got the left wrist
undone. Marie was trying her best, but she needed a lot more practice.
Hearing sounds outside, I quickly slipped my hands back into the manacles.
Without getting my feet undone, I wouldn't be able to do anything if I was
caught and that would put all our work as well as Marie's sacrifice in
obtaining the picks at risk. Hurriedly I dropped the pick I was holding and
whispered to her to pick it up. She did, rapidly bending them into something
resembling earrings and putting them back in just as the door opened.

Outside was Martins. This time he appeared rumpled and stressed, but he
didn't have any more drugs with him by the look of it. At least I knew it
was unlikely he was going to press me for more information.

When he reached the chair, he struggled to pull of his red tie, dumping it
on there and pulled his shirt out of his pants. I had a feeling I knew what
would come next.

"Frank told me you would be on your knees." he whined.

I just glared at him. I didn't have to answer that. An idea was starting
to form in my mind, I had to get him close enough. He stayed out of range
though, pacing, picking up items and putting them down again. I didn't like
the look of some them. After a few minutes some of the nervousness seemed to
leave him and he I think he was trying to be commanding when he told me to
get down on my knees.

I smirked.

"Make me."

Unsafe statement, I know, but at this point he was directly in front of
me and he did exactly what I hoped. He stepped forward, one arm raised to
push me down.

That was my opening. Both my hands shot out of their manacles, and I took
hold of the sides of his head.

A quick twist and I heard a crunching sound. Letting him go, he was dead
before he hit the floor, his neck at an unnatural angel. Looking behind me,
I could see Marie staring at him. That was not what I had hoped to achieve.

"Marie? Don't look at him. I need one of your earrings back." I told her.

She seemed to concentrate on me again, and handed me an earring but
stayed well back from the body.

I slipped out of the manacles again and bent over, working on my legs.
These were easier than the manacles as I had two hands to work with.

"You broke his neck, didn't you? You killed him." she said. I wasn't sure
if what I was hearing was wonder, disgust, or disbelief.

"Yes, I did. Killing isn't right, but we need to leave and he was
stopping us. " I told her. Didn't want her growing up thinking it was ok to
just kill anyone. Not that I think she would, she seemed fairly levelheaded
to me. After all, she'd managed to get us the lock picks so we could get
out!

"I'm glad he's dead. He was nasty."

I managed to get one of the ends of the spreader bar to let go. Now it
was still padlocked to the floor, but I was no longer locked in it, and I
was relieved to be able to close my legs again. I knew I was going to feel
some of my muscles tomorrow! Getting the last one undone was easy.

I considered taking Martins pants, to keep me decent but he was a large
man and there was no way I would keep them on, belt or no.

"Do you know were I would get clothes?" I asked Marie. She shook her
head, still looking at the corpse. Walking over to the chest at the end of
the bed, I opened it and found a load of toys. Tipping them out revealed
several costumes at the very bottom. Looking at them, I discarded those that
were too large or too small, and then those with skirts. The only suitable
item left strongly resembled a loincloth. It was better than nothing, and I
put it on.

"We need to move. You stay behind me, ok?" I told Marie. She nodded, and
I took her small hand in mine.

"We're going to be alright."

Nodding, she followed me when I walked towards the door, my hand still
holding hers. At least that way I was certain she was still behind me. As we
walked past Martins, she kicked him hard. Then looked up at me.

"Can we go now? "
