Chapter 8: Sincere Need of..Love

 

 

Inuyasha and Kagome were mere millimeters from one another and the anticipation of what would happen next was beating wildly in each other. A flicked on light switch turned their attention to the kitchen, a mere 20 feet away. The couple backed away from one another in an instant sitting back in their seats across from one another. Placing the best innocent smiles the two could they looked at who had just interrupted whatever was about to happen.

 

“ Hi!” Izayoi said cheerily as she made herself a pot of coffee inside of the kitchen. “ What are you kids doing up so late?” She asked with a knowing smile on her face. Kagome fought the growing blush on her cheeks, but she was positive she was turning bright pink.

 

“ Just enjoying a nice late dinner.” Inuyasha innocently said as he held up a part of his half eaten sandwich in the air.

 

“ I hope you didn't wake poor little Kagome just so that you could eat.” Izayoi said with a small laugh. With a polite laugh Kagome smile to Izayoi, though she was seething inside. Though the miko was sure Izayoi hadn't meant to, but her words hinted at immaturity and naivety in Kagome.

 

“ Actually, I was enjoying the view of your gardens before he came downstairs.” With the flawless mask of politeness and propriety perfected over many years, Kagome smiled to the matron of the large mansion.

 

“ Well, I'll leave you two be. Don't stay up too late.” With that Izayoi poured herself a mug of coffee, flicked off the kitchen light then left for her bedroom. She hoped that the two would end up together. Kagome seemed like a wholesome girl who could change her reckless and foolish son into a well-rounded young man.

 

After Izayoi had left Inuyasha and Kagome were left to deal with the tension from before.

 

“ It's getting late.” Kagome said standing up from her seat, as she reached for her plate Inuyasha's clawed hand came to rest on top of hers. Her sapphire eyes met Inuyasha's amber gaze and she smiled weakly. “ It's getting late.” She repeated softly, but she didn't want to go to her room. At least not alone. He was the complete opposite of Hojou, yet she couldn't help but be attracted to the hanyou.

 

“ Not yet.” His eyes pleaded with hers, but she remained firm and shook her head.

 

“ It's getting late and my family wants to go and start packing up our stuff at the house. I don't want to be half asleep while I'm trying to decide what I want to actually take with me or just put away in storage or something. Though the stuff I put in storage could be donated-“ Inuyasha cut her off with a loud chuckle and he shook his head to the girl. He leaned in towards the girl for a chaste kiss but she placed a hand in between his face and hers. “ Goodnight.” With that Kagome pulled back her hand and regretfully went to bed alone.

 

 

 

Kagome sat back against the oak headboard of her childhood bed. This would probably be one of the last times she would sleep in this bed. She opened up a novel she had borrowed from the Takahashi library and began to read.

 

RING! RING!

 

Not recognizing the phone number she answered the phone. “ Hello?” She asked as she kept her eyes transfixed on the book.

 

“ Hey,” She may not have recognized the number, but she knew that rough voice anywhere.

 

“ How'd you get my number?” Kagome asked with a secretive smile.

 

“ Your mother actually.” Inuyasha chuckled not bothering to hide the embarrassment in his voice. “ It's been three days.. When are you coming back? I'm getting bored.” Inuyasha asked curiously.

 

“ What did you do for entertainment before I showed up?” Kagome asked as she shut her book and set it on her bedside table.

 

“ It's more like a who..” Inuyasha couldn't help but say it.. “ But after you showed up.. You're different, you know? Not in a bad way.” Inuyasha honestly said.. he knew that if Sesshoumaru were to walk into his room or if he heard him say that he'd definitely get shit for it, but Sesshoumaru wasn't there so he didn't give a damn.

 

“ Uh, thanks I guess.” Kagome said inwardly thanking the Kami that he couldn't see her blush. “ So what or who have you been doing since I left?”

 

“ Hanging out with the guys, I've been getting shit for not hanging out with them 24-7 like I did before you came.. and no one.” Inuyasha smirked as he began to pace around his bedroom. “ What about you?”

 

“ I've just been packing up stuff and saying goodbye to all my friends here.” Kagome sighed sadly.

 

“ When you get back the girls want to hang out with you again. They've been hounding me to get you to call them.” Kagome slapped her hand against her forehead.

 

“ Oh yea! I totally forgot to call them before I left. They wanted to go to the mall or something like that. I feel bad. I can't remember all their names.” Inuyasha chuckled softly.

 

“ There was Ayame, Kanna, Sango, Kagura and I don't know who else was at the club when we were there..” A certain name popped into Kagome's head. `Kagura.'

 

“ I heard your parents talking about someone named Kagura…” Kagome didn't want to pry, but she was curious to why that girl was such a sore subject to the family.

 

“ They would. Bastards were probably talking shit on her when it was that bastard who..” Inuyasha trailed off and awkwardly coughed. “ Feh, whatever. When are you coming back?” Inuyasha asked once again hoping that Kagome wouldn't press the subject matter or Kagura once again.

 

“ I don't know. I'm more or less done packing, but my parents are still packing up stuff. I probably won't be back until some time next week.” Kagome yawned tiredly and glanced at her alarm clock. 12:13 AM

 

“ Next week?” Inuyasha whined pitifully, how was he supposed to win the bet if she was gone. Every second she was missing was a second that his brother was closer to getting his car, but a part of him kept saying that his bet wasn't the only reason he wanted.. no needed her back in Tokyo. The night she had left they had almost kissed, curse the Kami who woke his mother to interrupt them. “ When you come back I'm going to take you to dinner, an expensive restaurant with snooty waiters and with a ridiculously expensive menu.” Kagome snorted with laughter.

 

“ No, if you're taking me out I don't want an expensive dinner. I want something reasonably priced and a down to earth vibe.” Kagome stated proudly causing Inuyasha to snicker slightly.

 

“ I might as well take you to WacDonald's and we can cavort with all the other low class no bodies.” Inuyasha said with an arrogant tone.

 

“ You're a jerk!” Kagome yelled into the phone. With that Kagome hung up on Inuyasha and turned off her cell phone muttering pseudo-curses aimed towards a certain silver haired hanyou.

 

Inuyasha looked at his cell phone with a completely confused expression. She had hung up on him?! The bitch hung up on HIM! He'd didn't even say anything wrong. Maybe placing a bet to bed Kagome was a bad idea. She was psychotic. But she was hot.. and extremely caring, smart, funny, feisty and beautifu.. Inuyasha shook his head but continued to stare at his phone in disbelief. That bitch hung on him… No matter how many times he thought it, it was still unbelievable.

 

“ You know you have to either CALL someone or have someone call you to use it.” Sesshoumaru said cockily sauntering into his younger half brother's room.

 

“ Fuck off Sessh.” Inuyasha snarled. He was not in the mood to be fucked with right now.

 

“ Tsk tsk baka. I'm assuming your little miko whore did something to displease you?” Inuyasha had the mind to punch damn smirk off of his stupid ugly ass face.

 

“ Just a misunderstanding. But you'll be disappointed to know she was SO ready to give it up to me the night she left.” Inuyasha said with a arrogant grin. Sesshoumaru rolled his eyes then shot his brother a doubtful look.

 

“ I highly doubt that little brother. A girl like that wouldn't give it up in only three days.” Inuyasha snorted and tossed his cell phone onto his bed.

 

“ But it's true. When she gets back, she's mine.” Sesshoumaru shook his head and laughed.

 

“ Dream on. It's not going to happen. Give me your car now and save yourself the time and energy on trying to get the miko.” Inuyasha opened his mouth to retort but Sesshoumaru cut him off. “ Why am I wasting time trying to warn you? You won't listen anyways.” Sesshoumaru pulled out a small dime bag of white powder and waved it in front of his brother. Inuyasha's eyes lit up and he reached for the bag only to have it pulled away by Sesshoumaru.

 

“ Fuck this conversation. Let's get fucked up. I know Pop brought bought a new bottle of cognac.” With that the two Takahashi brothers exited the bedroom in search of delicious liquor.
