InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Gypsy Princess ❯ Prologue ( Prologue )
A/N: Ok, here we go with Gypsy Princess!
Disclaimer: Sadly, I do not own Inuyasha. I am only saying this once.
~Prologue~
She ran on, whimpering as she brushed through snatching bushes as they clung to her tattered dress. Her shoes were long gone, lost in a stream far behind her. Hope Woods was ironically named-the forest held nothing but the most deadly and poisonous creatures and plants in the land. They sucked out all of the hope of those who stumbled into the black wood.
Ignoring the many scratches she was receiving as she tore out of each branch's grasp, the girl panted and wheezed, trying to find a way out of the wooden hell in which she was trapped. She cried out in pain and surprise as her foot suddenly became lodged under a large tree root. Falling to the ground, she tugged her sore foot out just as she sensed her pursuer behind her. She heard his voice boom out.
"No matter where you run, I can always find you, little girl. It is no use trying to hide from me, Kagome!" The girl to whom he spoke to whirled around with terror in her eyes. She saw nothing in front of her.
Not willing to take any chances by staying there, she jumped to her feet and ran on, heading toward the sound of rushing water. She suddenly smelled salt in the air and wished she was near the ocean again.
Much tripping and a few string of curses later, she reached a bank of the Crane River, one that came directly from the ocean. There was a huge tree on the bank, as large as a weeping willow.
Taking a step of the solid ground without a second thought, she tumbled down the slope to rest at the water's edge. Trembling, she dipped her sweat-soaked hand into the calm current. It lasted but for a few seconds, as she yanking it out when icy coldness reached her wrist.
Taking a deep breath, she slid off the ground and into the water, head going under. She broke the surface seconds later, gasping for air. Kagome struggled to rise out of the icy river, and finally emerged.
She struggled to rest at the trunk of the great tree before her vision became black.
