Chapter 38

“Well, it has been a long time since I’ve visited. Don’t think it’s because I didn’t want to visit, it’s just a little hard to have to fly that amount of distance just to visit you while you’re here. Life’s been good lately though. Kagome is married to a great guy, he’s a half demon so he’s a bit brash and selfish sometimes, but he treats her well. Souta and Asami are doing well. Souta’s in high school and Asami is the same as always. Dad, as you probably are aware of, has gone on with his life. He still misses you and even though he has Michelle and Yari to love and adore, he still wishes you didn’t have to leave us when you did.”

Raising his hand, Seiya brushed away some of the weeds that had taken residence on the stone tablet. When it was clean, he read the words “Anna Marie Mizutani 1960-1993.” Setting a flower in the small metal cup that was buried into the ground, Seiya sighed loudly as he said, “As for me, the past year or so has been really, REALLY, odd.” Smiling, he looked at the headstone saying, “I’m sure you’ve figured out that I’m gay by now. Save for those few girls I slept with just to make sure, and I’m sure you know of Rin and Sesshomaru. If you were alive, more than likely you’d be supportive and probably treat Rin like the daughter you probably always wanted. I know you’ve seen the fights, seen my body, and well probably seen what’s happened to my bedroom. But, I’m getting married soon, or just so I don’t piss of the Republicans and conservatives, we’re doing a union, since marriage is only defined as a union between a man and a woman. Either way, Sessh is going to be my husband and he’s pregnant.”

Pondering what his mother’s reaction more than likely would be if she were alive, Seiya scratched his chin as he muttered, “I know it’s hard for you to imagine, but he’s a strong demon and well male demons for the most part can get pregnant. Anyway, I’m going to be a dad and you will have a grand kid. So that’s my life now and I’ll do my best to visit you a bit more often. I love you and miss you.” Pulling up some grass, Seiya put a small photo of him, Sessh, and Rin into it before kissing the headstone and putting the grass back down.

Getting to his feet, Seiya brushed his pants and gave the grave one last look before heading back to the car. He’d gone on this trip alone since he’d decided to do it in the early morning. Checking his watch, he wasn’t surprised to find that it was only ten after nine. Hopping into the compact, Seiya headed out the grave yard and made his way back to the house thinking of what was going to happen in a few days, scratch that it was a little over thirty hours away and he had yet to feel the over anxious, cold feet syndrome that had plauged so many people before him.

At a stop light a few minutes away from the house, Seiya looked to his right at the same exact moment Jessy pulled up next to him. Seeing that his windows were rolled down, Seiya did the same before saying, “What the hell are you doing out at this hour?”

Jerking from his daze, Jessy turned down his radio as he looked around for a moment before turning his head to find his cousin staring at him. Wiping some sweat from his head, Jessy laughed nervously as he said, “Just doing some early morning things. I’ll discuss it with you later.” Noticing that the light had turned green, Seiya let his cousin go first and get in front of him as they returned to the house finding only the kids awake.

The danger of four kids running around a house while all the adults were asleep was a catastrophe in the making. Eddie was sitting in the kitchen away from the girls, while Rin was doing her best to stop Gabriella and Angie from making noise. Only problem was Rin’s English, wasn’t up to the task and Seiya had to whack each one on the head before asking, “What the hell do you think you are doing, fighting while everybody is asleep? You’re going to wake them all up and you’ll get yelled at.”

Pushing her sister, Gabriella looked up saying hotly, “She ripped my dress for the wedding!” Sticking her tongue out, Angie tried to run away but was picked up by Jessy and dumped on the couch as he made his way out to the deck. Muttering a thanks, Seiya looked over at his young cousin who was sitting with a pout on her lips and her arms crossed.

Settling down next to her he asked, “Did you rip your sisters dress?” Shaking her head, Angie continued to scowl evilly at her sister as Seiya said, “Well then what happened to the dress?” Turning her head away the young girl tried to climb off the couch, but was pinned down by Seiya who repeated his question.

Huffing, Angie stuck up her nose saying, “She’s only blaming me ‘cus she wanted to play Marco Polo while wearing her dress and I won so she had to close her eyes making her catch the dress on the drawer handle.” He was about to turn his head when the rapid sound of feet heading up the stairs, and a small slam brought a curl to his lips.

Rubbing his cousin’s head, Seiya gave Rin a smile and asked her a question with his eyes. Giggling, the girl made the motion of somebody sleeping which confirmed her Papa’s suspicions. Heading into the kitchen, Seiya picked up a few muffins, two glasses, and a gallon of apple juice to drag up the stairs. It was a bit of a chore, yet after months of using his cane, he’d figured out how to carry all these things in his hands with the least amount of difficulty.

Arriving at the wood covered portal, Seiya reached out with his elbow and opened the door to find his mate curled up in a fetal position like an animal hiding in its den. Setting the food down on the little bedside table, Seiya brushed the demon’s forearm only to be greeted with the typical red-eyed hiss. Grunting lightly at the demons grip on his arm, Seiya said, “Just calm down and eat your food.”

Snarling briefly, Sesshomaru’s breathing slowed down to its normal pace and his eyes went back to normal. Coughing from lack of liquid in his throat, Sesshomaru massaged the wound gently as he softly muttered, “Forgive my reaction.” Expecting the usual reply, Sesshomaru waited for it only to have a glass of cool juice pushed under his nose.

Taking the glass, Sesshomaru downed half of it in second and sighed loudly at the relief. Wiping some of the stray juice away, Sesshomaru placed the glass on the table as he said, “Where did you run off to so quickly after dawn?” Silenced by his mate’s lips on his mouth, Sesshomaru carefully placed his mate on his lap.

Half an hour and a warm jug of juice later, Seiya pushed himself away from the pregnant male and asked, “Well after such a warm welcome home, I feel that I should tell you where I went although you’d have to go there after the wedding.” Getting fed up with his mate’s cryptic way of talking, Sesshomaru applied a small amount of pressure to the humans head. Getting the idea, Seiya removed the claws as he said, “I went to visit my mother’s grave this morning. Thought it’d be good to visit her and let her know what’s going on in our lives.” Rubbing his mate’s slightly bruised skull, Sesshomaru placed a small kiss on the human’s nose before taking to the food that was brought up.

When breakfast was over, the two enjoyed a quick shower before heading into the living room, where upon arriving, Seiya was ambushed by his Aunt June, Sara, and for some odd reason his dad. Looking over his shoulder he saw a smug smirk place its self onto his mate’s mouth. Feeling his legs lift off the ground, Seiya shouted, “Where the hell are you taking me?”

Following his mate outside, Sesshomaru said, “We all think you could use a bit of grooming, so they’ve scheduled you to have your hair cut from your head, and shaved from your face.” Fuming at the mutiny by his mate and family, Seiya tried to thrash his way back up to the stairs. He was able to get June off of him, but his dad and Sara were on a different playing field than the old wino. In fact compared to her, they might as well have been the children of Zeus as far as he was concerned.
Still that was no reason not to continue fighting the whole way to the car, which after bruising his dad’s arm and whacking Sara in the shin a few times, the door was slammed in his face. Hearing the auto locks click and switch into some sort of odd fail safe mode, Seiya looked to find Jessy smirking at him from the driver’s seat. Growling loudly, Seiya asked, “So you went to set up my appointment is that it?” Shaking his head, the priest turned on the radio and sped off the property as the song “Four Horseman,” blared through the windows. When three other songs had finished, Seiya shut off the radio and asked loudly, “If you weren’t setting this damn thing up then where the hell were you this morning?”

Taking a turn, Jessy shut off the stereo and said to his cousin, “I was trying to get a small little church for you to get married in. Problem is the resident priest was a prick and I also ran into a small bit of trouble as well.” Looking to his right, Jessy could see that his cousin was under the suspicion that he was bullshitting him. Upon seeing this he began to tell the story of how he had failed at getting his cousin a church for his wedding.

Since he was a priest, Jessy was allowed to marry anyone he saw fit, normally this applied to people that were members of the Church, but if they weren’t he did it just the same. And since he was given certain rights because of his work, he knew that a nearby church was a kind of way station for him and his fellow Hunters so there shouldn’t be any problem with the priest allowing him an hour or two to marry Seiya and Sesshomaru. Of course he assumed all this and he knew better than to assume anything, especially when you want to marry a demon and human in a place where demon slayers took a break.

But, you couldn’t blame the guy for at least taking a stab at it. Hell it was the perfect size for the amount of people that were staying in the house, not to mention some friends Sara had met in town on their little afternoon excursion. Feeling that he’d be able to sway the caretaker, Jessy went in to find the old man saying good bye to a couple of parishioners. Out of reflex he made the sign of the cross and headed up to the old man and said, “Good morning, Father.”

Putting the goblet and wafer plate away, the old man smiled happily saying, “So nice to see a young man in here at this time of the day. What can I do for you?” Extending his hand, the old man smirked even more as Jessy gave it a firm couple of shakes, removing his robe and hanging it the old man again said, “You have a special reason for being here don’t you young sir?”

Shaking his head affirmatively, Jessy ran a hand through his hair and said, “I am actually a member of The Church, beyond being the usual parishioner Father.” Feeling the old man’s eyes giving him a run over, Jessy chuckled and said, “I am Bishop Joseph Tobias Constantine, but you can call me Jessy.” A bit taken aback, the old man began to chuckle arrogantly and in his usual understanding manner, Jessy joined in before saying, “I’m actually quite serious.”

Snorting the old man said, “You aren’t even thirty and you expect me to believe that you are a Bishop? How is that possible, unless you know what this church is primarily used for?” Stepping pass the old man, Jessy found what he was looking for in a small stone nearby. Taking his rosary off he put it into the little engraving and pushed to hear a satisfying click before a wooden door swung open. Surprised at what happened, the old man clasped Jessy’s shoulder saying, “Well then you speak the truth. Tell me, what brings you to my small boarding house?”

Sitting down on one of the benches, Jessy spoke. “I have a cousin who wants to get married and I was hoping that as a man who knows of my work you’d be able to allow us an hour and half to occupy this small church and conduct the ceremony, if you’ll allow it of course?” He could see the old man agree to it and felt a weight lift from his heart

Sipping a bit of water, the old man said, “I think that’s possible. I have nobody save for those like you around most of the day, so there’s no problem. When did you want to have it?” Answering that he wished for it to be the afternoon of the next day, Jessy watched as the old man thought it over as he said, “Are you going to be the one to perform the ceremony? Or is that something you’d like me to allow to perform between the young man and lady?”
Laughing lightly, Jessy stared at a stained glass window of Saint Christopher and said, “Actually it’s more like a pair of young sirs.” The words, bad and idea, couldn’t even describe what was going through Jessy’s mind as he saw the look of disgust flash over the priests face. Snorting, Jessy muttered, “It’s not like you’re going to be present so don’t even worry about it old man.”

Putting the brass goblet on the table, the old man turned saying, “I will not allow you to violate God’s House by allowing such an atrocity to be performed here. You a priest of our Church, should know better than to fraternize with those disgusting things.”

Balling his hand in a fist, Jessy smirked evilly as he replied. “That’s not the worse of it old man, one of them is a demon and he’s carrying the child of my cousin. And, you’re right this is God’s House, but remember a house is shaky, unstable, and able to fall or burn down easily. So the a church in my opinion is a form of blasphemy. God’s true realm is the Earth which is strong, sturdy, and so far self sufficient. So, wanting to do this for my cousin in a little church goes against my own interpretation of The Faith. Beside, if God doesn’t want people to fall in love and spend their life with somebody why did he give us free will?”

The old man looked ready to retort when an heavily accented voice said, “ ‘ow aboot shooting yar mooth, boyo?” Gazing in the door way Jessy saw a tall, scarred, and mentally unstable looking man grinning at him. Shifting his hand to his side in preparation, Jessy remained calm as the man said, “Donnae worry ‘oseph, I’m here as a booty gard for our boss. Boot, I ‘ill ‘have to infarm him of yoor ‘ickle plan to desecrate oor Lords ‘ouse.” He stopped for a moment after noticing where Jessy’s hand had fallen and smirked. “Remember laddy, ye aren’t complete. Though you are nearly there ah ‘attle wif me is still fatal should ya get hit innae right spot.”

Putting his hand back in front of him, Jessy smirked as he said, “At least I’ll be sure to keep both my arms after the fight. Besides, we both know better than to fight in a church. And although I’m my procedure isn’t complete I’m still more than a match for you.”

Stepping out of the doorway, the priest said a farewell to the old man and thanked him for his kindness before heading out of the church without so much as a second glance at the young priest. When he was certain the freak had left the grounds Jessy exited the church and began his way back to the car. Where after only ten minutes of driving, he was soon confronted with the dreaded task of taking his cousin to get a trim without the poor cripples knowledge.

Back in the present, Jessy parked the car outside of the barbershop as he finished his story. Stretching for a moment, Seiya settled down and said to his cousin, “Sounds like you had a much more interesting morning than I did cousin.” To which Jessy made no comment and instead opted to head into the shop along side his cousin.

Meanwhile up at the house, Sesshomaru was busy reading a book that Seiya had leant him. It made no real sense to him as the writing style was rather perplexing and some of the dialogue and setting descriptions lasted more than two pages testing even his patience to new limits. When he finally finished a chapter on some sort of council, Sesshomaru placed the book on the table and sat down cross legged and closed his eyes.

He’d already gotten in his two hours of training, even though he knew that he was pushing it with the child finally starting to show he still needed it and he was careful with the techniques he used. And after such a nice stress relieving activity, he felt that clearing his mind was the next best thing to do, since the humans had all decided to leave for a little while. Actually the adults had left for a couple hours leaving Rin in charge. Thank god she was around, because if she wasn’t he would have to kill one of them just to make the others behave.

Keeping his eyes closed, Sesshomaru began to clear his mind and focus on the things around him. His ears picked up the sound of birds twittering in the depths of the forest, his nose all the smells that filled the air. From the tiniest hint of moisture, to the offensive bleach like smell of the chemicals that filled pool. He could even feel the hairs growing on the whole of his body.
Yes he was truly calm and focused as he sat on the cool grass near the outer rim of the woods. Breathing deeply, he turned his focus to his body and what was growing inside his body. He couldn’t make out what the child looked like, but he knew that it was growing strong. Smiling inwardly he sent a message of love to the growing child and felt its mind grow calm at learning who was spying on it. Last time he saw Isayu, the energies protecting the child had stopped her from even sensing the heart beat and it was only after Seiya spoke in a low and serene like voice that the forces protecting their child lifted allowing her to do a proper check up on it.

He chuckled to himself at that visit. They had returned to the past so they could get some information from her before heading out on their trip. In response to their inquiries, the old horse had given them an extra supply of the tea that Rin gave Sesshomaru each day, as well as a thorough physical for the demon lord. But, the check up itself wasn’t what was interesting to the demon. No, what was interesting to the demon was what happened to his mate when Isayu explained a few things to the unsuspecting human.

As Sesshomaru lay on his side allowing the healer to check his back, Seiya watched from a corner with a cautious glance asking, “What exactly am I suppose to expect over the next seven months? He’s already getting moody, and a bit queasy from certain things. But, he’s not getting sick and I don’t know what I should do the further he gets along. I mean, how am I suppose to handle a pregnant man?”

Chuckling lightly, Isayu ran her hands over Sesshomaru’s back finding a good amount of muscle and nutrients in there to support him and the baby. It was an unconventional method, but the back held less interference to the organs and she was able to reach vital ones more easily as she slid her hand down his spine finding it to be developing the way it should to support his new condition and said, “Well it’s mostly the same thing with human females. Each one is different, but you will get the occasional bouts of sickness, mood swings, hot and cold flashes. I’d also advise you to stock up on plenty of food because he’ll be able to ingest higher amounts than even the hungriest pregnant human female.”

Growling a bit at the comment, the horse shook her head saying, “Don’t you growl at me Sesshomaru-sama. I’ve been tending to you since you were a child and your father left me in your care many times when he had to leave you behind. You obeyed me then, and you will respect me now.” Feeling a bit embarrassed at getting reprimanded in front of his mate, Sesshomaru remained silent as she rolled him on his back as she said, “He will gain weight, but his body will turn most of that into energy to support him and the baby. Just make sure you allow him to exercise every now and then to burn off what isn’t used up. It’s not only for his health, but for his safety. If he get’s too weak, he could die during gestation along with becoming a prime target of his enemies. So long as he’s careful to limit his training to an hour or two a day he’ll survive, anything over that is dangerous.”

As he recalled that warning, Sesshomaru had to laugh at the result of his extended training periods. He still had the picture hidden in with his clothes and glanced at it every now and then. But, he refocused on their last visit with Isayu, and Seiya’s reply to the warnings.

“Okay, then so he’ll be even more dangerous than Kagome being pregnant, got it. But, well I didn’t really want to think about this but it’s going to happen. Just, uhh . . . how . . . do . . . we . . . go about . . . the baby’s birth?” The pair could see that the question wasn’t exactly a smart thing to ask since Isayu was carving up some herbs to make her special tea. She’d cut her hand, but it healed up quickly, and Seiya laughed a bit himself, while Sesshomaru reattached the armor to his Kimono.

When she’d calmed down enough, Isayu finished her cutting and began to grind the dried herbs as she said, “It’s difficult to explain that, since well he doesn’t have the female anatomy to allow it. But, that’s only in his current state. In his transformed body, which I’m certain you have not yet seen, the lord will become more beast like and go on a bit of a rampage. He won’t harm anyone though, he’ll just back up like a wounded animal before heading off to find a cave.”

Seiya gave a slight sigh of relief as he noticed Sesshomaru watching him expectantly. It made him feel uncomfortable to have his mate look at him like that. Then he realized what was just said about when Sesshomaru went into labor. Isayu had said that he couldn’t give birth in the typical manner in human form. But in his dog body he’d run off to a cave, and if he ran off to a cave that could mean only one thing.

Feeling his head get a bit light, Seiya looked Sesshomaru over before saying, “You mean to tell me that when it’s time for the baby to be born. He’s going to turn into a giant female dog?” Putting a lid on the pot of the tea powder and tying it together, Isayu gave it to the dai-youkai before smiling and nodding happily. Seiya tried to reach up and rub his temples to calm himself down, but it was too late as he’d found the world to go black only to let the two demons watch him fall to the ground unconscious.

According to what Kiba had told him, Seiya had woken up to find himself laying on the futon that was placed in the main bedchamber of the palace. His head didn’t hurt, but the room was a little blurry and his mouth dry. He began to sit up when a voice said, “Don’t worry about getting up boss, I’ll get you a drink.” Propping himself against the wall, Seiya watched as a small dog demon bounded over to a water bucket and filled a pitcher before heading back to the futon and filling a nearby glass. Sipping at it slowly, Seiya sighed as he felt the coolness spread throughout his body.

He finished the drink and said, “Thanks for watching over me, Kiba. I take it Sesshomaru is in his meeting?” His little friend nodded and said that Lord Kouga had arrived a few minutes after Sesshomaru had laid Seiya in their room. Seiya was glad the Rin was gone for awhile. She was used to Kouga, but the girl got extremely jittery when the demon spoke to her.

The wolf had done many things to make up for his past mistakes, but Rin still didn’t like being around the demon for extended periods of time. Last time he’d seen the wolf, he and Inuyasha had gotten into their typical fight over who was better while Seiya talked to Miroku about some things and while Sesshomaru stayed on the outskirts with Jaken and AH-Un.

Well needless to say, that with the Dog Sprite telling him about the short conversation he and Seiya had engaged in. Sesshomaru was glad that he had left his lands in the hands of Koura and Kouga, even though the wolf was mad that the dog had allowed a panther to remain in charge of his lands. He could see the point, Kouga was a wolf and a distant relative to the Dai-youkai, but Koura was more powerful and much more level headed so she was the better choice to leave in charge.

Sesshomaru wanted to remember a few more things, such as Seiya discussing his disgust at the demon lord giving birth that way. There’d been a fight over a couple of the comments he’d made and Sesshomaru had stayed away from him for the remainder of the day. It wasn’t that he couldn’t understand his mates discomfort, it was just that Sesshomaru wasn’t having an emotionally stable day and took the words too close to heart.

Now two months later, Sesshomaru was shaken from his meditation by an all to familiar person. It was the child named Eddie, the one he had hit for getting too close to his stomach. The demon had said he was sorry, it just didn’t sound sincere, but the kid had accepted and was a bit more cautious around him. Opening his eyes, Sesshomaru was surprised to see a smile on the boys face as he said, “Cousin Seiya is back!”

Thanking the boy, Sesshomaru got to his feet and headed to the house to see what his mate looked like. He liked the hair, but the beard was too much for the demon, it got in the way when they kissed and even though it wasn’t very thick, it annoyed the Hell out of him. Glancing at a clock as he passed through the kitchen, he’d realized that he’d been out there for five hours. Something wasn’t right if it took five hours to have a few inches of hair removed from your head and some from your neck and face.

Sniffing quickly, the most recent trail he could pick up of his mate led to their room. Walking past Rin, he gave her a pat on the head and headed up the stairs without saying anything to hear the shower running. Sitting on the bed he waited for his mate to get out and show him what the person had done. It didn’t take long and the demon was glad to see the boys hair a few inches shorter and straighter, along with the face he’d come to love.

Motioning the boy forward, Sesshomaru remained seated as Seiya stepped forward and said, “I take it you like what you see?” Nodding happily, Sesshomaru traced a finger along the man’s jaw line, up his cheeks and then through the now knot free locks. Laughing lightly, Seiya said, “If you’re done ogling me, I’d like to get dressed now because I’m getting hungry and we brought home some burgers and things.”

That’d explained why the two of them were late, Sesshomaru liked hamburgers and the foods that went along with what was called “bar-b-que,” but he couldn’t handle the tubular pieces of meat called “hot dogs.” That wasn’t a fun day, in fact it was just yesterday that the demon had eaten one and asked what it was called. When, Valerie had told him the name of what he’d just ingested, Sesshomaru ran into the house and threw up.

Later that night, Seiya had told him that it was made up of pigs, cows, chicken, or some odd bird called turkey, and had no hint of dog in them what so ever. Sesshomaru didn’t care, he told the boy to never set a plate of them near him again and if he or Rin at one around him, he’d punish them severely. Seiya had eaten one when they got back to the table, but Sesshomaru couldn’t follow through with the punishment since it involved the two parts neither one of them were allowed to touch. So, he came up with an alternative, which involved the demons tongue, and some old sheets used to bind his mate’s hands together while he teased the most sensitive parts of his mates upper body while the humans hands were bound behind his back.

Lunch was good as usual, and the rest of the day was spent doing some last minute preps for the next day. And since Jessy couldn’t get a church, they decided to use the gazebo that was in the small garden on the right side of the house. They also went over what was going to happen since Jessy wasn’t an interfaith minister, nor was he a Shinto Priest, and as a Catholic priest he had to perform a typical Christian wedding.

Supposedly, whoever was to be the bride was walked down the aisle by a father figure and then given away, but the two had decided to walk down the aisle together as equals and not write their own vows since it’d be unfair to all those in the audience who didn’t speak Japanese to have stuff translated as they spoke.

When all the wedding stuff was finished with Jessy, Seiya had to answer the door to find people bringing in food for some reason. He knew they didn’t need it since it was supposed to be family only. Trying his hardest to get an answer, Seiya was left clueless as the delivery people left the house without saying a word. Looking over at his cousin and soon to be husband, Seiya was about to voice his confusion when the voice of a certain red headed woman said, “Honestly, you fuckers thought I wasn’t going to show up to a gay wedding in my town?”
