"You have something I want," the spider stated.

Inuyasha growled, “Come and get `em.”

"As you wish," a dozen tentacles sprouted from Naraku's form.

Kagome watched the battle, torn between staying and going. It was a lack of weapon that finally decided her.

"SANGO!” she ran toward the village, “MIROKU!"

Wooden walls greeted her; the other shard hunters were gone.

“Shippo, stay here,” Kagome dropped her yellow bag.

“But…” emerald eyes filled with tears.

A bow and quiver was slung over the miko's shoulder, “I need you to warn Kaede when she returns.”

Shippo puffed up his little chest, “You can count on me!”

The girl sprinted down the well worn path. There was no flash to indicate the wind scar, no ringing metal, no battle cries. Air rippled as she plunged through a barrier, Kagome paused.

"Inuyasha?" she called softly.

"Did he fail to protect you too?" A cold voice asked.

"Ki--Kikyo!" Kagome stuttered.

"Didn't you want to ask me something?" The clay priestess said calmly.

"Oh, yeah..." the miko's mind whirled, "...the shards, have you seen any?"

Kikyo nodded, "in fact, I can take you to them."

"Great," the girl from the future said brightly.

The resurrected priestess led Kagome deeper into the forest.

"You didn't see any of my friends fighting Naraku?"

"I did not."

The trees began to thin.

"I don't feel any jewel shards."

"I have them under a barrier."

"Oh," a pause, "okay."

"Over here," Kikyo stopped in the center of a wide meadow.

Kagome warily approaches. This could be another...

Kikyo's barrier dissolved. The miko stared into the gaping mouth of the Dry Well.

“Goodbye.”

The teen tumbles forward.

The familiar magic guided her journey.

'What was that about? Kikyo knows I can just come back.'

Kagome landed on the soft dirt, reached for a ladder rung. Her hand passed through air.

'Great, the ladder's gone.'

She sighed then yelled, "MOM!"

A dark shadow eclipsed the bright opening.

“Grandpa?” the question echoed.
--------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------

A bark came in reply!

"What yar got Fang?" The person was speaking English!

Kagome thought a moment and then said carefully, "Hello?"

The dog disappeared only to be replaced by a bushy outline.

"What're ya doin' down there?"

"Help?" the girl pleaded.

The man lowered a rope, "just grab on ter that and I'll have ya up in a jiffy."

The miko did as instructed and she was hoisted out.

"Why'd ya go into that nasty thin'?"

Kagome gaped at the man. He looked like a hair demon.

"You need to get back to the castle." A giant hand swept toward the building.

Kagome turned and stared. A castle! Gray stone, towers, it was huge!

'Where am I?'
