Story Fifteen: Thunderstorming Night

Ever since I was little
I've had this fear of the dark
and normally the lights go out
during a thunderstorm

Tenten sat on her bed shining up a few kunai and shuriken.

"There we go! All shiny and clean."

She put them back in their box and carried the box back to the closet.

Carefully, she placed the box on the floor and opened the closet.

"Hm?"

Tenten looked outside her window and saw dark storm clouds forming.

She watched as the sun dissapeared and it became dark.

A.....a thunderstorm is coming...

She pushed the box into the closet and closed the door.

Climbing back onto her bed, she picked up the phone and dialed a number.

Riiiiiiiiing, Riiiiiiiing 'Click!'

"Hn."

"Hi, Neji."

"..."

"Could I come over and stay for a few?"

"...."

"You know, just till the storm passes?"

I wish Neji wasn't always so silent. I can't even tell if he's still on the phone!

"Fine."

"Really? Thanks!"

"You must keep quiet though. Hiashi doesn't know."

"Right! Okay, see you in a few!"

"..."

'Click!'

Tenten knew it was probably cold outside, so she changed into navy blue jeans and a baby blue zip-up jacket.

She then walked down her booby trapped hallway, not even seeming to notice the barrage of tools thrown at her and the giant flying sword that Neji almost got hit with the last time he came over.

On her way out, she grabbed and pocketed her house keys, locking the door behind her.

Before she could completely close the door, she felt rain dripplets on her face.

I should bring my umbrella.

Tenten pulled out her yellow umbrella and closed the door.

The rain came down a little harder, but the umbrella kept Tenten dry.

By the time she arrived to Neji's house, he was outside waiting for her.

She blushed as she realized he was waiting.

"Hey, Neji." she said, putting on a smile.

He looked up at her.

"Hey."

At least I got a 'Hey'. Other times it's just 'Hn' or '.....'.

"C'mon, follow me."

"Okay."

Neji led Tenten through the halls of the Hyuuga Household silently, until they reached his room.

"Here, give me your coat." he said as he turned his head away to hide a tiny blush.

"Thanks, Neji."

"It's nothing."

She placed her umbrella down by the door and removed her shoes.

"So, why did you come over here again?"

"Just to hang."

I can't let him know my secret....although we promised not to keep secrets.

"Are you sure? It's seems like there's another reason."

Tenten sat down on his bed.

"...."

"Tenten?"

"It's nothing. Don't mind it." she said as she shook her head.

He shrugged and went over to his closet, going through some boxes.

Suddenly, lightning struck, lighting up the night sky.

"Ah!" Tenten covered her head.

Neji spun around quickly.

"What!"

"Ah." Tenten realized she was covering her head, and quickly removed them, blushing intensly.

Neji looked at her questioningly.

"Are you sure your alright?"

"Uh, yeah."

He went back to going through his stuff.

Tenten sat there, listening to him talking quietly, saying things like "Ah, crud." and "What the hell is this?".

She laughed quietly, but it was stopped as lightning struck again, this time causing the lights to go out.

Tenten froze, completely taken over by fear.

"Tenten? Are you alright?"

She didn't reply, so Neji activated his Byakugan.

When he saw her, she was completely frozen in place on his bed, and he then realized that she had Achluophobia, a fear of darkness.
He quickly closed his closet door and went over to her to attempt to settle her.
So this is why she came over. She's afraid of the dark.
"Tenten, listen to me. Your safe here with me."
He put his hands on her shoulders.
Your safe here with me.
Those words repeated within her head.
She brought her hand up to her bottom lip, the way Hinata would when she was afraid.
Your safe here with me.
"Neji!" she said as she hugged him tightly.
"Ah." he stood there as she hugged him, hiding her face in his shirt.
"I've always been afraid of the dark. I don't know why, but I feel so isolated in the dark. Like no one is ever going to be with me again..."
"Tenten, it's okay. I'll always be here for you."
The lights came back on, but the storm wasn't done yet.
"Could I stay here tonight?"
She looked up at him, and he could see the fear in her eyes.
"Sure." he smiled lightly.
Quickly, Tenten kissed him, but before she could remove her lips from his, he pulled her closer and kissed her deeply and passionetely.
"Thank you, Neji, for always staying with me."
"Ditto."
