“You're always running away.” Red told Lance. “I don't like it.”

Lance did not answer, golden eyes gazing off into the distance. Red sighed as he leaned forwards, invading the Dragon Master's personal space.

“I don't want you to fly away. I want you to stay here with me…”

“Why?” Lance asked, quietly. His fingers brushed Red's cheek, and the Champion realized that they were very brittle. “Why do you want to keep me, Red?”

Red frowned. “Because I like you?” He ventured, after a moment. He wondered about Lance, wondered how he had scarred his hands so badly. Without his ever-present black gloves, Red could see so much. It was almost as though Lance had smashed his hands through a mirror or something…

“You like me.” Lance echoed. A bit of a wistful smile crossed his face. “I'm glad.”

And Red had an awful feeling that there was something Lance was leaving unsaid, but he didn't know what it was, so he just clung on to Lance tighter and tried not to let go.
