Title: Painted smiles
Bunny fic: What if Ash and the others weren't saved from Sabrina when she turned them into dolls?
Disclaimer: I really wish I owned pokemon, because them Misty would not exist… I do own this fanfic, however!
Chapter 1

They were dolls. Cute little tiny dolls about four inches in height. Their clothing was felt, their bodies were plush, and they had no idea why they were still alive.
It was not a good predicament to be in.
Misty pulled out a mallet.
Ash eeped.
However, the mallet itself was plush as well and so when it impacted with his head, no damage was done.
Hmm… maybe there were some advantages to being a plush doll.

Sabrina made her doll smile. “Now you'll all stay here and play with me, won't you?” Behind the childish words was a thick aura of menace. It would not bode well for them to disagree, but…
“As if, bitch!” Misty yelled, which was amusing, considering her vantage point. Sabrina was unfazed, but Ash gulped.
If Misty made Sabrina angry, she could easily hurt them in this state!
Why was Misty being so foolish? Then again, she wasn't the brainiest member in the group. Ash would bet on Brock, except when he was distracted by a pretty girl.

Sabrina's expression did not change, but Misty suddenly felt her arms being pulled out of her body…
“OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!”
Apparently dolls could still feel pain!

“I think you should apologize Misty.” Brock's sage advice resounded.
Misty shook her head fiercely, although she was obviously grimacing in pain.
“Stop!” Ash called to Sabrina. “You can't kill her! She's a gym leader just like you are! She shouldn't die!”
Somehow, the words `she doesn't deserve to die' did not register in Ash's mind. He had seen quite a lot of her ugly nature.
But Sabrina couldn't just murder Misty, right? Right!
That was evil!
No! Even if Misty was annoying, he had to stop her! But how?

Before he knew what was happening, Sabrina had frozen.
What in the world?
Brock asked away.
“Brock? What's wrong?”
Misty stared at Ash in disbelief. “You-you!”
“Hmm?”

Sabrina finally unfroze. < Interesting… > Before Ash could respond, she had scooped him up with one hand and walked out of the room.
“Hey!”
Sabrina put Ash down on the bed, pulled out a magnifying glass, and began a thorough examination. Ash colored, but there was nothing he could do.
After several minutes, Sabrina re-clothed the doll (lucky plush fabric shows no details!) and muttered something in pokespeech.
Ash blinked.
He stretched out an arm - and found it a human arm!
< I should have known it was you, Red! >
< Um… what? >
Ash freaked out when he realized that he was talking in telepathy. What in the world was going on here!
He had to know!
< What's going on? >
< I'll leave it to someone who can explain more than me. > Sabrina said, withdrawing a poke ball from her dress.
Ash blinked.
Sabrina was talking in a normal tone of voice! What had happened to the earlier creepiness? Why had she changed him back?
And… er… why had she stripped him earlier?
Red light heralded the arrival of a pokemon.

It was… an Abra?
< Master Red! >
In an instant, there was a hyper Abra in his arms! However, it didn't feel wrong to be hugging this pokemon… it felt… almost familiar…
Almost as if he had done this before…
Blindingly, memories flashed before his eyes as he cried out in surprise, falling to the ground. Sabrina quickly rushed to his side.

Ash woke up about two hours later in a room, black wallpaper covered with various constellations in silver. At a desk sat a pile of books and a computer. Two bookshelves were on the walls, along with a small picture frame.
Ash froze as he saw the picture inside.
Sabrina, himself, two Abras, and… a man…
A man with longish dark hair and evil red eyes…
That man…
His father

< You're awake, Red. >
< Oneesan… > The word slipped out of his mouth before he could comprehend what he had just said.
Sabrina smiled, a real smile, not a cold, thin-lipped smirk.
< You remember! >
< Hai, bits and pieces… why did you send me away? >
< I didn't. It was mother. >
< Mother? >
< Do you remember what happened? >
Ash/Red nodded. < Hai. I was eleven… father was going to sell us two into slavery, wasn't he? He had run up debts gambling… >
< Yes, that's correct. >
< Together, we defeated him, but before he died, he managed to cast a curse on me that would replace all my memories with false ones… >
< So mother sent you away where you would hopefully be safe. >
< I see. >
< I went crazy without you, otouto. > Sabrina confessed. < We're twins, after all… we shouldn't be apart. >
< I missed you. >
< I missed you too, > Sabrina whispered, before they embraced each other.
