Prologue

A dark blue python gundam curled around a branch on its tree, getting ready to rest for the night. Suddenly, it heard a sharp tap a bit further up the trunk. It lazily opened one eye a slit, but could see nothing there, so he closed it again and went to sleep.

Isho'miruhk flipped around midair and used her momentum to bounce off the trunk of another tree, traveling through the jungles at breakneck speeds. She hoped she was fast enough to get there in time…
Suddenly, the gundamess saw a slight rustle in a tree she was approaching, and altered the angle of her next rebound just in time to avoid a dart that had been aimed at her. She quickly determined the location it had been fired from and threw a flint dagger at her assailant, who jumped up off the branch he hid on and darted towards her, spear aimed at her heart.
She quickly pulled out a knife and parried the blow, then got out another and stabbed the side of his undefended throat. Abandoning the corpse, she let herself fall to another branch and leapt off it, continuing through the jungle as if nothing happened.

In a large clearing in the jungle sat an enormous Mayan-styled temple facing the setting sun. Standing in front of the sacrificial dais at the summit was the gundam shaman of Rukniti village, Ajir'mirukh. He stared at the setting sun, and the faint silhouette of the moon that was slowly sliding in front of it.
“*Just a few more minutes…*” he muttered. “*then the gate to the gods' realm will be opened.*”
“*Ajir!*”
He spun around just in time to block Isho's strike and knock her to the floor. She immediately leapt up and went after him, wildly swinging her knife through the air. He dodged each strike almost effortlessly and, grabbing her hand, tore the knife out of it and stabbed her in the chest just below her heartstone.
She let out a yelp of pain, and Ajir used the split-second hesitation to knock her over and pin her to the floor.
“*You bastard.* She growled, coughing up a bit of oil. “*You'll kill us all!*”
“*Then so be it.*” he sighed. “*You are just like your mother; stubborn and impetuous. I can't believe I ever loved such violent mortals.*”
He took the knife out of her chest and ran it through her left-leg knee joint, then stood up and faced back towards the sun, which was now more than half-hidden by the moon.
“*You were too late, Isho,*” He said. “*All the preparations were complete. It wouldn't have mattered if you did kill me.*”
He turned back towards Isho, who had been reaching for another knife, and kicked her.
“*You shall not hinder me!*” Behind him, all that was left of the sun was a small sliver peeking out from the side of a black orb. “*I will find Kaiten's reincarnation! And all those who doubted me shall feel the wrath of the greatest demon lord this world has ever seen!*”
“*You insane fool!*” Isho shakily tried to get to her feet. “*He'll only need you to regain his memories! As soon as he has no more use for you, he'll kill you, too!*”
Ajir smiled. “*I won't go that far. I'm planning something a little more grand.*”
“*What-*” her eyes widened in shock. “*How dare you…*”
As the sun finally slid behind the moon, a sharp cracking sound rent the air and the sky was suddenly died a blood red color. Ajir whirled around to stare at the altar; it had become a portal. Through it, he could see an endless expanse of green-colored sky, and a strange, shining ship floating through it. He grinned.
“*That shall be my vessel to the next world.*” As he stepped towards the portal, Isho leapt up and grabbed his arm. He turned back to her and struck at her, but she dodged the blow and grabbed his other arm, flipping him over to the ground. She grabbed her knife and lunged for his heart, but he kicked out, making her stumble towards the portal. She tripped on the side of the dais and fell backwards.
“*NO!!*” He grabbed for her, but she had already fallen through. With a flash of light, the portal closed again. As the sun peeked out from behind the moon again, the sky returned to its normal, orange, pink, and dark blue sunset hues. Ajir stood staring at the dais, seething with fury. He made an effort to calm himself down. So he had missed his chance this time. There would be others. After all, he had all the spells of Camazotz memorized. He would make another eclipse happen soon. And when it came, nothing would hinder him.
