Part 1: The Do'aho's Twin

Sunlight shone brightly accompanied by the loud noise from a certain school in Kanagawa. Everyone was more or less cheerful with this beautiful day, less cheerful probably because it was the start of classes and more cheerful probably because more social interactions and excuses to go out and have fun. It was a typical school day or so, as they thought as a limousine screeched to a halt in front of Shohoku high. Nothing changed much, still the same old people they had come to see, love or hate. However, little did they know that the arrival of this person would change everything of what they knew and perceived of an important, popular person in their school.

Every student in Shohoku high turned to look at where the sound came. What ran on everyone's thoughts were very much the same to one other; each wondering who the newcomer may be. Never did they hear that sound in all the years they had stayed in Shohoku, moreover, see that unfamiliar limousine in front of their beloved school. Everyone's attention was instantly directed to the limousine and to the person, whoever she may be that would soon come out.

A young girl with a rather eye-catching hair stepped out of the expensive car with her expensive looking brown Prada bag. They continued watching the girl as she exchanged few heated words with her chauffeur before her unfortunate chauffeur, who looked tired and weary, got back in the car again and drove off, away from Shohoku High.

The girl started walking with an air of elegance and grace. She wore a smile on her face that complemented the beautiful day however her eyes, dark and troubled, strongly contradicted what her smile was saying.

Nanami Sayuri, the girl who had just arrived, felt uneasy despite her smiling face because of the attention given to her. What caught her attention most was the group of boys, who were all so tall except for a guy with a cool, studded earring on each ear. One guy, with a scar on his face, was looking at her, seemingly observing her every movement. Heck, why are they looking at me like that? Suppressing a snort that was threatening to escape out of her delicate lips, she decided to speak to a group of girls who was just around the corner.

One of the girls smiled warmly at her, making the tension she felt earlier disappear, as if she never did felt it. Deciding that she was the friendliest among the three, she first approached the brown-haired girl.

"Ohayo," Haruko said to Sayuri with a smile on her pretty face.

Sayuri nodded in return. "Anou, can you please show me the way to the school office? I'm new here so…" she trailed away. "By the way, I'm Nanami Sayuri," she added.

"Yoroshiku, Sayuri-san," Haruko said politely. "I'm Akagi Haruko."

Whatever attention that was given to her earlier faded away, that is for the girls. Some guys still stared at her making her uneasy once more the moment she noticed the attention. However, the tension she was feeling didn't let what Haruko said go unnoticed. She flinched openly at being called by her given name, knowing all too well that it was her mother who named her; however, she pushed those thoughts aside angrily as she focused herself once more to the girl she was speaking to.

"This is Fujii and Matsui, my friends. We could all help you find the way here. Ne, Fujii-san, Matsui-san?" Haruko said

"Hai," Fujii and Matsui said in chorused.

"Arigatou, Haruko-san," Sayuri said with much relief. "Demo could we go now? I'm a bit uneasy with all the staring."

Haruko finally noticed the number of people gawking and staring at Sayuri and laughed. "Sayuri-san they're looking at you because they haven't seen anything like you. And you're really pretty too."

"Oh?" Sayuri replied doubtfully. She wore a complete puzzled look on her face. "Haven't seen anything like me?"

Matsui nudged Sayuri as she gave her hair a pointed look. Sayuri, following Matsui's cue, looked at her hair and then at everyone's hair.

"Wakatta," she said, laughing with Haruko. The bitterness she felt earlier was replaced with laughter as she started to feel comfortable around her.

Then suddenly, a red-haired guy ran around, chasing a group of guys and at the same time, trying to head-but them.

The scene caught everyone's attention however, they quickly glanced away faster than you could say, "Get the fuck out of here!"

Sayuri, being new, and everything hence not used to the comical scene, laughed loudly.

However, the girls around them suddenly screamed loudly as a fox-like creature cycled his way dangerously towards the school building.

"Aahhh!!" some of the girls screamed. "Rukawa!!"

The red-hair collided with the guy's bicycle shortly after the sudden screaming. Everyone could instantly hear another person yelling angrily at the top of his lung however, his voice was overpowered by the screams of the girls.

Sayuri covered her ears as dozens of girls screamed the boy's name. She looked at Haruko for a while and then she glanced at the red-hair and then, her stare was directed to the kitsune.

"Rukawa-kun.." Haruko murmured with little hearts on her eyes.

So, this Rukawa seem to be popular with all the girls. Sayuri laughed at the finally awake Rukawa. She watched with a smile as the seemingly disgruntled Rukawa dodged all the girls who tried to get hold of him. Amused, she decided to ask Haruko more about this 'Rukawa' however, she was unable to, as she glanced at Haruko.

"Haruko-san?" inquired Sayuri waving a hand at her face. "Haruko-san?"

Haruko, from Sayuri's voice, woke from her trance and then, realizing what she's done, she blushed crimson red.

"And I thought that you were also going to scream Rukawa's name and join those girls who were trying to get close to him," Matsui said dryly, openly pointing at the mob of girls running after Rukawa.

"Matsui-san!!" Haruko said in an almost scolding way. "You know that I won't do that."

Hearing all these exchange, Sayuri chuckled and said in a cheerful way, "Well at least the attention's not on me now. So now can you accompany me to the office before the bell rings? If you're quite finished looking at Rukawa, Haruko-chan?" She grinned, almost in a teasing way.

Noticing the playful tone in her voice, she quickly spoke up in her defense, "I wasn't!"

"Yes, you were!!" Matsui said, contradicting Haruko.

"No I'm not!!"

"Yes you were!!"

And it continued on and on as Sayuri and her new found friends went left the grounds and entered the building, heading for the school office.

~~°+°^_^°+°~~

"I wonder who that girl is," Miyagi Ryota said as he was one of the persons who were giving Sayuri excessive attention.

"She's gorgeous," Mistui breathed, staring at the girl in awe. He could see that the girl was looking for someone to talk to, probably to ask for directions. At this, Mitsui immediately smiled at the girl, hoping to catch her attention but unfortunately for Mitsui, the girl ignored him.

Sakuragi snorted. "Micchy, she wouldn't notice you for the world. And since when did you became interested in girls?"

"Hmm, she's somewhat like you Hanamichi. Your twin," Ryota told him grinning. At that time, Mitsui wasn't listening at their conversation as he was busy in trying to get the girl's attention.

"Nani?" he asked. "How could the Tensai look alike with some girl?"

"I mean the hair. Both of you cannot go unnoticed with both of your hair," Ryota replied.

All of a sudden, Mitsui's face suddenly fell, disappointed at something. "She approached Haruko," he said in a disappointed voice.

Mitsui's statement did not fail to catch Sakuragi's attention. "Nani? Where is my beloved Haruko-chan?" he asked, his eyes twinkling in excitement. He glanced around quickly, hoping to see her.

"Baka, she's at the entrance with the blond girl," Ryota said. "Can't you see the blonde hair?"

"Haruko," Sakuragi whispered his face blushing as he finally found Haruko. Sakuragi puffed his chest out, preparing himself for his 'unexpected' meeting with Haruko, the Sakuragi Guntai suddenly appreared.

"Here goes the King of Simplicity!!" Anozumi said, throwing streamers on the ground. He grinned mischievously.

"Want to bet that Sakuragi will be ignored by Haruko?" Sauchiro asked, his ears perking.

Unfortunately for the Guntai, Sakuragi didn't fail to hear what they said. "You idiots!" he yelled as the Guntai started backing away, preparing themselves for the famous chase. Sakuragi advanced on them menacingly. He was about to head but each one of them however, they had already started running away from Sakuragi. "Come back here!" he yelled, starting to run himself.

Ryota and Mitsui laughed at the comical scene Sakuragi provided while everyone smiled at first and then they got back to what they had been talking about before Sakuragi chased the Guntai. That scene wasn't at all new to them, always had been a common event everyday at Shohoku High.

" Come back here!"

"Ulp, you've done it. You made Sakuragi mad."

Just then, a boy was cycling his way to the school building with half-closed eyes and his walk man plugged to his ears. Girls screamed at the sight as well as Sakuragi, as Rukawa 'accidentally' collided with the redhead leaving black trail marks on his back.

"Hey, looks like Rukawa's here. The girls started screaming already," Ryota told Mitsui.

Sure enough, when both Ryota and Mitsui glanced at where the commotion was coming from, they found Rukawa, girls screaming at Rukawa, and Sakuragi screaming at Rukawa.

Mitsui glanced away from the commotion, looking disinterested and then he stared at the blond girl once more. At this, Ryota looked at Mitsui with an amused expression, clearly wondering if he also acts like that in front of Ayako.

With a smile, Ryota said something, more to himself.

"Some things never change."

~~°+°^_^°+°~~

Rukawa stared into space, remembering what happened earlier as well as every morning of his life in Shohoku. He cursed silently. Girls are nuisance, he thought.

He stifled a yawn as sleep suddenly came to his mind once more. He was about to close his eyes and sleep when he remembered what his sensai would say to him, making him wide-awake. Better to stay awake for a couple of minutes, he decided. Looking around, he finally noticed a new girl standing in front of the class with a highly noticeable hair.

"Class, we have a new student today from Tokyo. I trust you to be nice to her."

The new girl smiled widely. To everyone that smile was a natural one but to the person who was smiling, it was fake and just for the show. She disliked the attention being thrown at her most.

"Ohayo gozaimasu minna," she said bowing slightly, almost nonchalantly. "Watashiwa Nanami Sayuri. You can call me by Sayuri, minna."

"You can take the seat beside Rukawa, Nanami."

"Arigato,sensai."

Makes no difference, he thought, yawning once again.

The moment Sayuri was seated; she turned to him and smiled to his surprise. "Hi, I presume your Rukawa Kaede, am I right?"

Being the aloof and cold person he was, Rukawa just stared at her with his usual expressionless face. He nodded slightly that was almost unnoticeable and then he looked away. He hated the guts of the girl and would very much want to sleep her off. And so he did.

Classes went on and everyone got to know each other. However Rukawa was dozing off and didn't even care if he would not know his classmates well.

~~°+°^_^°+°~~

The moment the bell rang, signifying end of classes, her seatmate, Rukawa, was the first person to get up and leave. She blinked a few moments, not sure if she was seeing correctly. She had never seen someone who sleeps so much, actually almost for the whole day, and then get up the moment the bell would ring, as if nothing had happen.

She picked up her things and placed them accordingly in her bag. In the corner of her eye, she saw Haruko calling Rukawa.

"Rukawa-kun!!" Haruko called, running slightly to catch up with Rukawa.

Much to Haruko's disappointment, and to Sayuri's dismay, Rukawa didn't even bothered to glance at Haruko, moreover, answer her call. He just continued walking, as if he heard nothing, that made steam rise from her head. Who does that guy think he is? she fumed.

Pitying Haruko, she approached her and gave a smile to make her dampen spirits rise. It was her belief in life that a smile would brighten up anyone's day. "Ne, Haruko-chan?"

"Hmmm?" she asked, looking quite distracted as she gave her her attention.

"Can you show me the way to the gym?"

"Hai, you coming?"

"Hai, you?"

Haruko nodded, completely forgetting what happened between her and Rukawa. "I'm the assitant team manageress."

"Oh?"

"Yes, do you want to come with me?"

Sayuri smiled and walked ahead, not bothering to reply, assuming that Haruko would follow her cue. Sure enough, she did, and they walked together in silence until they were near to the gym. Both of them could hear shouts and yells of the players.

Haruko opened the door to the gym. "Minna!" she greeted cheerfully.

Everyone stopped on what they were doing to greet Haruko back. Ayako approached her with a small smile.

"Your late, you know that Haruko?" Ayako asked her disapprovingly.

"Gomen Ayako-san," she said sheepishly.

"What's done is done," she replied. She glanced at Haruko for a moment before noticing Sayuri's presence. Ayako gave her a smile. "Hi, new here?"

Sayuri, who was watching the team doing their drills, was startled by the question and so she wasn't able to reply quickly.

"She's Nanami Sayuri, Ayako," Haruko said noticing that Sayuri was being silent.

"Shy type?"

"No!" she exclaimed. Then she smiled, "Well maybe a little. Sorry about that. I was studying the team you see," Sayuri explained.

"So what do you think?" Ayako asked, interested.

"Well, I've heard about Shohoku before," Sayuri said with a smile. "Shohoku is quite famous for defeating Sannoh."

Ayako said something which went as unheard by Sayuri. She was letting her eyes stray to the team who was practicing. And that was when she noticed Rukawa.

"Rukawa-kun?" she asked out loud, surprised.

Ayako and Haruko exchanged glances. And then Ayako grinned, "Like him?"

Sayuri glanced at her for a moment, looking amused before she laughed at the idea. "Iie, Ayako-san. But then maybe Haruko-san likes Rukawa."

Haruko blushed at the direct assumption. "Am I that transparent?"

Sayuri once again, lost track of the conversation that was mainly about Ayako encouraging Haruko about Rukawa. She became busy with studying the team and she couldn't help but to praise Rukawa for his basketball skills in her mind.

Practice session ended and Haruko took the motive to buy them all drinks. Everyone was grateful of Haruko's thoughtfulness especially for Sakuragi. Seeing the change, Haruko took the opportunity to introduce Sayuri to the team.

"Minna, meet Nanami Sayuri." Haruko said cheerfully.

"Hi," everyone said in chorus.

She looked startled at Haruko's sudden introduction. However, she caught up quickly as the introductions to the team member were made. She soon got to know them, mixing one name from another. Soon, they were also engaged in a conversation.

"Hey," Ryota, the short one said. "You were with Haruko a while ago ne?"

She smiled and nodded in response.

"So Sayuri-san you came all the way here from Tokyo?" Mitsui asked, smiling at her.

"Hai," she answered.

"Do you live with your parents?"

Everyone who was listening to the conversation noticed Sayuri's sudden change of expression. Her face instantly became an expressionless mask that most of them were so familiar with. Sayuri took a whole minute of silence before she answered the question.

"Iie," she replied, her voice sound a bit clipped and cold. She smiled at them but they weren't sure if her smile was for real or not, as her smile didn't quite reach her eyes.

At this, Haruko looked at Sayuri with concern. Mitsui, who was asking a barrage of questions, didn't seem to notice Sayuri's sudden change of expression. He was too mesmerized with the fact that he was talking with Sayuri.

Rukawa, who was just seated at the bench and resting, couldn't help but to listen to their conversation and he noticed that Sayuri answered each of the Mitsui's questions with a yes or a no. Like as if she didn't want to be asked by someone about her life. Or like she didn't want anyone to find out anything about her. Rukawa was starting to doze off on his seat while listening unconsciously to the conversation. Or the one-sided conversation

"You have a pretty name, Sayuri-san," Ryota commented.

Sakuragi, who was being left out of the conversation, was starting to steam because he was being ignored. There he noticed Rukawa sleeping with a drool on his mouth.

"Oi, kitsune!!" Sakuragi shook Rukawa's shoulders. "Baka kitsune, you fell asleep after a practice? You must be so tired. It's no wonder you're no match for Tensai. You have no stamina!!"

"Nyahahahahaha!! You're just like Micchy, collapsing already" Sakuragi laughed again.

Mitsui didn't let Sakuragi's comments go pass. He was steaming and yelled at Sakuragi, "Oi, loud-mouth!!"

Sakuragi ignored Mitsui and then he continued yelling about his Tensai-ship. Rukawa, who was woken by Sakuragi's noise, threw a punch at Sakuragi.

"Do'aho"

"Kitsune!!"

Sayuri, who was watching the little scene, felt thankful for the interruption of Mitsui's questions. She had been biting back a retort to tell him to stop asking her questions anymore.

A flying fist accidentally hit Haruko, who had been trying to stop Sakuragi from fighting with Rukawa. Whoever's fist it was, no one knew. Haruko landed on her butt painfully.

Seeing Haruko, it made Sakuragi stop fighting with Rukawa. "Haruko-chan! Daijobu?" He kneeled down beside her, touching her gently by the shoulder, as if a fragile, expensive doll. Sakuragi continued fawning over Haruko.

This made Sayuri laughed. She could see that Sakuragi would do anything for Haruko. She could tell that because of his actions.

"Ouch," Haruko said, standing up as she rubbed the painful spot.

"Oi, Sakuragi what will Akagi say if he saw you accidentally punching Haruko?" Ryota asked, grinning evilly.

"Ryocchin I wasn't the one!! Kitsune was the one that sleeping baka!!"

"I'm fine," Haruko said, wanting to assure everyone. "It was an accident anyway."

At the corner of Sayuri's eyes, she noticed that Rukawa heading towards the locker room. Rukawa was rubbing his cheek that seemed to be swollen from the punched Sakuragi thrown him as he walked.

Ayako stopped the commotion after a while and said in a clear voice "Minna, we have an outing remember? It's past 5 now shouldn't we get going?"

Sayuri glanced at Ayako in alarm. Shit, it's past 5 now? Damn,I want to stay with the basketball team, she thought, looking longingly at the team. Groaning, she picked up her books and headed off outside without saying anything to the group.

Nobody noticed that Sayuri was already gone except for Rukawa. He watched Sayuri walking, as she head towards the school gates.

~~°+°^_^°+°~~

My notes: Minna! *waves furiously* I've finished editing this part and, hopefully, this is already grammar mistake free and wrong spelling free [is there such a term?]. *giggles nervously at the people who are reading* Ermm… I know that some of you are wondering why I changed this part, as well as, *points at the number of chapters at ffnet*. Yeah. Well… I was removing stories that I created [wrong ones] when I accidentally removed the wrong stories!! You'll see that I also removed Only Hope. So, I was really being absent minded and I didn't notice that I removed "Drop in the Ocean" plus my other fic "Only Hope"!

Arghh… I was so frustrated at that time when I discovered that. As well, as I LOST my copy of this fic. I was already almost off the top when I just decided to write this one again and, this time, correct the grammar mistakes and spellings in my fic [as well as in OH]. I thought it was high time that I edit this one, since I lost my copy in my stupid hard disk *hits pc*. So, I'm starting from scratch… Well, not really. I have a copy in my site as well as in Dimension's/ Moonglow's [dear moonglow/ dimension, arigatou for that!!]. So, anyway, I decided to recreate this one WITHOUT changing the plot.

Hopefully, this would be okay for you readers out there.

And one thing, if you notice any more mistakes *groans if that ever happens*, please tell me through your review. I would appreciate it very much so I can also correct it. Arigatou Gozaimasu!

Anyway, I know most of you would be familiar with this fic. But, I'm still going to rant about the history of this one. Well, I was reading fanfics of SLAM DUNK at that time and at the same time listening to Michelle Branch's cd. I was complaining to my sister about the lack of fics [I haven't discovered other sites at that time since I don't go at the links section]. Actually, I was reading yaoi fics, where in that time I still hate yaoi, since I don't have any option. I was frustrated so I decided to try writing my fic and *poof!* the story and plot came to my head [although some parts are a common thing in stories like the OC befriends Haruko, but oh well, I was new at that time =)]. I was hooked on writing that I thought grammar and spelling doesn't matter hence the mistakes in the former version of this fic as well as in my other fics, "Only Hope" and "Dreaming of You".

To make it clear, I didn't get the story from the song. Actually, I was thinking of a title when I heard this and remembered Sendoh's and Rukawa's eyes. In other words, this is not a song fic. So that's the reason!

*pants* Well that's basically it! Pls do review this fic or email me about it! I want to know if I did this right!

Please email me what you think!!
