I tread the floorboards carefully, polished and shining in moonlight. It isn't the first time. They are familiar now, like this, gaps and flaws old friends.

I stand in the doorway and look. Short blond spikes and a figure curled beneath blankets. Almost innocent, and not.

And this time, like the others, I turn away. Return silently to our room, sliding the Derringer back into the cloak hanging in the hallway as I pass.
