Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Calling ❯ Calling ( Chapter 1 )
Calling - by Geri Halliwell
A Fluff Yugi and Yami Shonen ai Songfic by Emerald Princess of Vernea
Emerald: There's no real plot to this - just something I was inspired to write.
"The sun is going down on me
As she surrenders to the sea."
As Yami stood on the edge of the beach and looked out at the sea, he could think of nothing but Yugi. The young boy who had put together the Millennium Puzzle and released the Pharaoh's spirit once more.
At first it had been easy - duelling and stopping those who wanted the power of the Millennium Items - but now Yami had to confront something much harder than anything he had ever faced before.
His own feelings.
"I..."
"So steal the night and fly with me
I'm calling, I'm calling."
The young Pharaoh looked up as the sun began to set in the sky, and watched as the glowing orb slipped behind the horizon.
"Yugi..."
It was impossible and Yami knew it. Yugi was his friend, his aibou, his Hikari. But Yami couldn't help the feelings that were growing in his heart. Every time Yugi was near Yami felt the connection growing between them, but he wasn't sure whether his feelings were right, or whether Yugi felt the same.
Yami stood there by the shore in silence, not moving as the last of the sun slipped away and the red sky turned into the black night. The sky was clear and dotted with stars, but not even the stars were comforting on this particular night.
"The moon is high on me and you
Is my message breaking through?
Darkened skies that once were blue are falling."
Yami opened his eyes and looked up at the sky.
"So hear me now."
"I love you, Yugi."
"Calling out your name
Burning on the flame
Play the waiting game
Hear my calling, hear my calling."
Yami looked down and shook his head, before turning away from the shore and walking away briskly. He couldn't take back the words now - the sky would carry them forever.
He headed into the town, walking past the people that were there. Of course they couldn't see him - he was only a spirit.
Only a spirit... Yami thought. That's all I am. Yugi is alive... he... he wouldn't want me. He's my friend...
(Forever and ever)
Yami eventually wandered back towards the Game Shop and apartment where Yugi and his family lived. He made his way into the alley and looked up at his young hikari's bedroom window. The curtains were still open - Yugi preferred them like that.
Yami looked up at the window, a sad look on his face. His heart was pounding in his chest, and he felt ready to faint. Inside that room Yugi would be asleep in his bed, probably dreaming without a care. Yami guessed Yugi wouldn't be dreaming of him. He sighed heavily.
"Through distant lands and mountain streams
My river's running through your dreams
There's an ocean in between
Forever and never."
Silently Yami walked into the shop and walked quietly up the stairs towards Yugi's room. The bedroom door was ajar, and Yami tried to be as quiet as he could as he pushed the door open and watched the light fall on Yugi's bed.
The young hikari was fast asleep on the bed, sleeping the way he always did with his legs curled up close to his chest and his hands resting on the pillow beside his head. He looked so sweet lying there, and Yami nearly choked.
"Chasing shadows through the years
I whisper softly to my dear
Be sure to know that I am here forever."
He sat down beside Yugi and put a hand on the boy's shoulder. Yugi mumbled softly in his sleep but did not wake. Yami smiled and ran his hand through Yugi's hair.
All of a sudden the smile disappeared as the wave of sadness filled him once more. He continued to stroke Yugi's hair, but a tear was rolling down his face. His feelings were clear - he had feelings for the boy, but what hurt was that he knew it could never be. He leaned over close to Yugi's face, and whispered softly in his ear.
"So hear me now."
(I love you.)
Yami stood up and walked quickly out of the room, colliding with the door in his hurry. He cursed loudly and then covered up his mouth and looked back at his aibou. Luckily Yugi did not stir, so Yami slipped out of the room and down the stairs back towards the Game Shop.
It was dark and quiet there, and Yami liked the darkness. He sat down in the chair at the till and put his head on the desk, closing his eyes and trying to ignore the feelings growing in his heart.
"Calling out your name
Burning on the flame
Play the waiting game
Hear my calling, hear my calling.
Whispers in the air
Hear a lover's prayer
I can feel you there
Hear my calling, hear my calling."
As Yami sat there, more tears began to fall down his face. He couldn't ignore the feelings and they were burning in his heart. He knew he loved Yugi, but he knew that to mention it would ruin their friendship forever. Pretty soon his shirt was soaked with tears and he could taste the salt in his mouth. Even when he wiped the tears away more continued to fall. He looked very mournful, sat in the darkness, crying.
"No man is an island
That's an empty sin
Discovery is a journey
Just have to let me in."
Yami was so absorbed in his own sorrow right then, he didn't hear a door being opened in the rooms above, followed by the sound of gentle footsteps. He didn't notice as a shadowy figure walked down the stairs towards him, and stop at the bottom and watched him as he cried.
"Calling out your name (a wish that could come true)
Burning on the flame (I'm reaching out to you)
Play the waiting game
Calling out your name (a wish that could come true)
Burning on the flame (I'm reaching out to you)
Play the waiting game
Hear my calling, hear my calling."
The shadowy figure stepped down off the stairs and walked over towards the crying Pharaoh. He then put his arms around Yami's shoulders.
Yami's eyes snapped open as he felt Yugi's arms being wrapped around him, followed by the boy resting his head on Yami's back. Yami smiled a little, and a final tear ran down his face and onto Yugi's hand.
"You know what?" Yugi whispered softly.
"What?"
Yugi lay his head back down. "I love you, too."
"Whispers in the air (I dream you into life)
Hear a lover's prayer (I can feel you there)
Hear my calling, hear my calling
No man is an island (a wish that could come true)
That's an empty sin (I'm reaching out to you)
So steal the night and fly with me I'm calling
Hear my calling."
