Yusuke's Birthday Surprise

Yusuke groaned and tried to roll over but there was an insistent knocking on the front door, he just knew it was Keiko trying to drag him to school again. He had come back to the Ningenkai on a whim, to catch up with all his friends there. He wound up staying longer than he intended at his mother's house, much to his lovers' displeasure. But his birthday was less than a week away and his friends wanted to have a party for him. At least tomorrow was Saturday, when they were throwing the party, then he could leave and get back to the Makai. Oh his lovers would be at the party too after all they were part of the team as well as friends with everyone.

 

The knocking has just become pounding, “OK, OK I'm up just give me a second” Yusuke yelled to be heard. He rolled out of bed and pull on a pair of jeans, pulling the fly up enough to cover himself then opened the door to let Keiko in. “ Hey, Keiko what's up?” “Yusuke why aren't you dressed for school?” Keiko asked with a disapproving look. “Why should I go? I'm leaving after the party tomorrow” He replied. “But I thought you could stay for a while this time” Keiko said. “I stayed longer than I intended, but you know that Kurama and Hiei will be there tomorrow and they are anxious to have me back at home.” Yusuke said gently. “I know but I still miss you, even though you're more of a brother to me now. Please come to school today, since I don't know how long it will be until I see you again.” Keiko pleaded. “That's why I can never win against you, alright I'll go, you head out so you're not late, I have to shower and dress then I promise I will be there.” Yusuke said with a big grin on his face. “If I don't see you by second hour I will be really mad at you Yusuke and I will tell your lovers that you broke a promise to me.” Keiko said. “No problem, I'll meet you at your locker after first period, now go so I don't have to give you a ride there then come back, you'd be real embarrassed if I took you to school dressed like this.” “Oh, you” Keiko blushed at the thought. Even though she and Yusuke had broken up before the last time he returned to Makai he was still hot, even more now that his demon blood was no longer dormant. Of course a lot of people still thought they were going out. It didn't bother her much, since she really wasn't interested in anyone, it also helped to keep the worst of the creeps away, since no one wanted to tangle with Yusuke, regardless if no one saw him that much, they knew that she kept in touch with him and more than once, he had appeared seemingly out of no where, when someone had decided that he was gone and tried to molest her. There he was breaking bones and putting her would be attackers in the hospital. Unless someone had a deathwish they did not bother Keiko or any of the Tantei girls for that matter.

 

Keiko left and made her way to school, she wasn't disappointed when Yusuke was there at her locker as soon as first period was over. Not that he was actually attending class, he was just sneaking around the school to make Keiko happy before he left again. He walked her to class and said “I'll be here when your done” “Thanks Yusuke, there is a new boy that has been harassing me since the last time you were here, someone I don't think you've met.” “What!? Why didn't you say something before or have Botan call me? ” Yusuke said angrily. “Yusuke, he's new and he's obnoxious, but nothing I haven't been able to handle, he has only just started getting more aggressive in trying to get me to go out with him. He's heard of you but you know how things are when you're gone for a long period, besides if there was something bad Hiei would have told you.” Keiko calmly replied. Yusuke really was her big brother sometimes especially when it came to her love life or lack thereof. “You're right, so can I play the overly protective and jealous boyfriend for this loser?” he asked in her ear in a growl that made her shiver, knowing that others would see them. “Yeah, that'd be great” she said. Then she whispered just for him “he's in my next class and sits directly behind me, he will touch me casually, on my hand or arm” she said as she pulled the tie from his long shaggy hair. He shook his hair out and proceded to fan his hot breath across her neck from one collar bone to the other. “There, now when you come out, I'll be able to find the bastard easily. No one messes with my little sister.” Yusuke gave her a toothy grin. He had found is easier to keep the long hair, fangs and markings that his uniform jacket would hide, his claws and facial markings were all that he hid when he came back anymore. “You really are overly protective you know that right?” Keiko asked, “Yeah, I know and if you find someone you like you know I'll back off, unless of course they hurt you. If that ever happens you know I will be right there.” Yusuke said. “I know, now let me get this over with” Keiko said as she moved thru the classroom door. Sure enough the annoying boy was already in class, waiting for her to enter. “I see your boyfriend has finally shown up” was the snide comment she heard, “Really Keiko, what do you see in that gang punk? I have so much more to offer you” Ryo said, grabbing her hand then sliding his hand up to her elbow. Truth be told at first Keiko did kind of like him, but then he had started to become more aggressive and tried to bad mouth Yusuke. As a matter of fact Hiei, had even asked her if she needed Yusuke to scare the miscreant off. At the time she had declined, but later regretted that decision. Ryo was still talking and she finally realized he was trying to threaten her. “…school doesn't know he's on the grounds trespassing, well maybe I should inform them he's here.” “Go right ahead, they may not know he's here right now, but they know that he turns up from time to time and since he does not disrupt anything, except for when I am being harassed they won't do anything about it. It's not like they can ever find him anyway. The last time the school saw him was when someone tried to rape my girlfriend Botan. He caught the offender and save her from a violent act. Ever since then he has been welcome as long as he stays out of sight for the most part.” Keiko retorted. Meanwhile, Yusuke felt that Keiko was becoming agitatied. `Hiei, do I need to go in there?' Yusuke sent the thought to the fire appration, knowing that he was keeping tabs. “Not yet, let her finish the class, you know that the school doesn't want you bursting into the classrooms unless there is a physical attack on one of the girls.' `You're right as usual, let me know if something changes' Yusuke replied, then severed the link for the time being. The teacher then entered the class room and everyone took their seats, the class passed without further incident. Keiko went straight to where she knew Yusuke was hiding so he could scent her and the male who thought to touch his sister. “His name is Ryo” Keiko whispered. “Ryo” Yusuke called walking right up to the uppity boy. “What do you want Urameshi?” the boy asked trying not to look imtimated by the other teen, who looked more than a little feral. “Keiko is mine, got it, you have no reason to touch her or speak to her. If you don't leave her alone and find a girl of your own, I will not be held responsible for my actions” Yusuke was purposely snarling and growling at the boy letting him get a glimpse of his fangs. Ryo gulped but tired to stand his ground. “What she sees in a nothing street punk like you I will never know, but make no mistake, I know that you're not around that often, which leaves plenty of opportunity for me to take her from you.” “ How about I show you what she sees in me” Yusuke smile and let the rest of his markings show, his fangs lengthen, and his claws grew out. “She's mine, forever, no matter if I am here all the time or not, I have more important things to take care of then attending a school that will not help with my future and she knows this, all she ever has to do is say that she needs me, whether to defend her honor or to take out the trash, like you.” Ryo was shocked, if possible Yusuke looked even more feral and it sounded like he owned Keiko almost like a slave. “What's that supposed to mean? I've got a lot more to offer her than you.” “Maybe in this world yes, however she is still mine and that is by her choice. Do I make myself clear?” Yusuke growled lowly in his chest his fists clenching. “What are you?” Ryo asked after taking a couple of steps back. “You're worst nightmare if you don't leave Keiko alone!” Yusuke snarled, then let his eyes start to go red. Ryo paled further “Y-You've m-made your p-point” Ryo stammered then immediately turned to find his next class. Yusuke brought his features back to what was now normal and turned to Keiko, “How was that?” “You're wonderful Yusuke as always” then she grabbed him around his neck and kissed him on the cheek. “Good if you have any more trouble call for Hiei and I'll be here immediately. I'll see you when school is over and walk you home, if you want to see me at lunch you know where I'll be.” Yusuke said while walking her to the next class. Then he made his way up to the roof for a nap. Keiko entered her next class and immediately her girlfriends were at her yet again about Yusuke's behavior. “Really Keiko, what do you see in him?” it was the same every time Yusuke re-appeared. “I've told you all before we are not dating he is just over protective, he'd die before he let anything happen to me, he is more like my big brother.” She sighed, her friends just didn't understand. “but he kissed you, it's not fair that you don't date him anymore but none of us have the chance to either.” Keiko was really exaperested with the same comments every time. “How many times do I have to tell you all that he has someone, he is only looking out for me and they understand his actions and allow it.” Unfortunately Ryo overheard this conversation. “So Yusuke lied, you're not really his, you're free?” “No Ryo Yusuke did not lie, I really am his, until I say so, now please leave me be. He is extremely posseive and protective. He is liable to try to rip you limb from limb for bothering me after his warning.” Keiko replied. They never took Yusuke's first warning to heart. She'd wait until lunch and let Yusuke know what happened.

 

She thought she'd be able to hold out until lunch, unfortunately Ryo cornered her after class. “Keiko” he said right before he mashed his mouth on hers. `Hiei, help' she called in her mind. Yusuke nearly tore the door off the hinges in his urgency to reach Keiko. Instanly transforming to his full demon form complete with red eyes blazing. “For Keiko's sake I didn't tear you apart before, she does not like this side of me.” Yusuke growled. “Yusuke” Keiko cried and ran strait to his arms when he opened them. Keiko tipped her head to up to his. Yusuke bent and kissed her, nipping her lip and drawing a little blood. Ryo was shocked at his actions. “I thought you told your friend he was your brother” Keiko looked at Ryo. “So, it's not biological, and I'd rather kiss Yusuke even when he looks like this. It's a compliment to have a mated Mazuko taste your blood.” “What do you mean?” Ryo asked. “It's means, she's mine.” Yusuke growled pushing Keiko behind him.

 

Yusuke cracked his knuckles and took a meanicing step towards Ryo. “I gave you fair warning, she's mine.” Ryo tried to hold his ground. “What did she mean mated and Mazuko?” “What's it to you?” Yusuke taunted. “Don't ever touch her again, if you do I will find out.” Yusuke balled his fist and punched him hard in the gut. Ryo dropped to the floor clutching his stomach. “Next time I will rip you limb from limb.” Yusuke growled. “You will respect Keiko or you will not live to regret it, got it?” “Y-Y-Yes” Ryo stammered. “I got it, Repect Keiko and her friends.” “Don't make me come back here.” And with that Yusuke took Keiko's hand and left the classroom.

 

“Thanks Yusuke, just once I wish they'd leave me alone” “I know but until you find someone, I will always look out for you.” Yusuke gently replied. “Want to join me for lunch?” “ I think that I'll spend lunch in the courtyard and see what happens.” Keiko said. “Ok, I'll be watching” Yusuke responded.

 

Keiko went to the courtyard and sat with her friends for lunch. Ryo cautiously approached her. “Keiko, can I talk to you alone, I'd like to apoligize.” Keiko looked up at the school for a moment to make sure that Yusuke was in fact watching her. “Come on” she said and walked a little ways away from everyone so that they had some privacy. “Well?” she questioned. “Keiko, I apologize for my actions. I see why you would prefer someone like Yusuke, who stands up for you and is loyal to you. It's just I hear all these weird things about him and the way he looks, it makes me think that he's a demon.” Keiko's head snapped up at that. “What?” “Come on Keiko, you have to admit with his looks and the way his eyes go red and the growling, he does not seem human.” “Does that bother you?” Keiko asked. “Are you saying that he really is a demon?” he exclaimed. “Not like your thinking, though most people can't see more than he shows” she replied. “Well that explains the possieviness, and why he looks the way he does, but that is not what I wanted to talk about. Do you think you could give me a second chance?” Ryo asked. “Give me one reason why I should?” Keiko replied. “I really like you, but I choose a poor way of expressing it. I would like to get to know you better.” Ryo responded. “ Well I'll let you start over, but if you ever force me to call for Yusuke again it will be your funeral, I would not be able to stop him. That it not a threat but a fact, he is fiercely loyal and protective and he thinks of me as his little sister.” Keiko did not even finsh, her sentence, as soon as Yusuke heard his name he jumped off the roof and landed in between Keiko and Ryo. “I warned you” He growled. Keiko immediately grabbed his arm. “Yusuke, I did not call you, Ryo is being the perfect gentleman at the moment. You see what I mean about protective?” Keiko asked Ryo. He scratched that back of his head and said “Yeah”. “You're ok?” Yusuke turned to Keiko with a serious expression. “Yes Yusuke, Ryo asked for a second chance to get to know me, and I was telling him what could happen if I had to call you for help.” “Oh, well, I heard you call my name and had to make sure you were ok.” Yusuke laughed. “I have to hand it to you Ryo, you're braver than most to face me.” “Yusuke, I would like to ask if you really are a demon?” Ryo asked nervously. “What's it to you?” Yusuke snarled. `Hiei is this going to be a problem' `I don't think so he is Keiko's potential mate, just don't tell him too much and caution Keiko against it as well' Hiei responded. Yusuke sighed, “Yes, I'm a demon, however that is something I would rather not talk about, most people will not accept what I am” This was a much a signal to Keiko not to explain anything as it was to Ryo to keep his nose out of it. “Well, I guess I'm kinda glad you see Keiko as a sister, it means that she will always have someone to look out for her.” Ryo said. “Keiko, call if you need me Kay?” and with that Yusuke jumped back up to the roof. Keiko and Ryo talked for the rest of lunch. Yusuke watched fondly, maybe Keiko really did find someone who would like her for her and not just as a means to get to him. He certainly hoped so.

 

The rest of the day passed without incident and at the end of the day Yusuke appeared to walk Keiko home. “Did he ask about me again?” Yusuke asked with a little concern. “Not really, he was more interested in me. He asked for my number.” Keiko said with a smile. “Good, try not to tell him anything more about me, and if he starts getting interested let Hiei know `Kay?” Yusuke asked. “Of course Yusuke, after all demons don't really exist do they?” she said with a giggle. “I'll see you at the party tomorrow then I'm heading back unless you have any trouble before then.” Yusuke said and kissed her cheek.

 

The next day Keiko was out shopping with the girls when her phone went off. “Hello” “Hi Keiko, I was wondering if I could take you to dinner tonight” Ryo said. “I'd like to but tonight is Yusuke's birthday party. I would have to check with Shuuichi first since he's hosting but would you like to come with me instead?” Keiko said“Really?, that's be cool” Ryo replied. “Yeah, give me your numer so I can call you back, and I'll check with Shuuichi and get back to you.” Keiko said. Once she had Ryo's number she called Kurama and made sure it would not be a problem. She called Ryo back “Ryo, pick me up at 5 ok?” Keiko said and gave him directions to her house. “ I gotta go, we're shopping for Yusuke” “Ok see you at 5 bye Keiko” Ryo said. The girls continued their shopping into early afternoon. “See you all at the party” Keiko said as they left the mall.

 

Meanwhile at Kurama's…

 

“Fox, do you think the detective will like the surprise?” asked an anxious fire demon. “I'm sure once his shock wears off he will Koi” the silver eared fox teased. “I hate that he stays at his mother's place when we are here.” “I know Hiei, but it's something he feels he needs to do for her, we can't begrudge him that.” Youko stretched out on the bed and lifted Hiei to straddle his waist “now let's play a little before we have to setup for the party.” Youko then proceeded to pull Hiei down to him to nip and nuzzle on his mate mark.
