A malicious specie from another world, the monsters seek to destroy the last traces of humanity. Humankind has been forced to retreat to the cities, building high walls in their own defenses. Very few venture beyond these walls; people live in fear as every day more and more people vanish or are killed by monsters.
However, across the surface of the world foretold heroes and heroines are arising. Some from the ashes of their former lives, some as fugitives from a dark political coup, some driven by the love of money, and some compelled by forces beyond their control. Ancient powers, new magic, strange weapons, mythic creatures, and ruthless enemies all stand on the road of their ultimate destiny; the salvation of their world.
Following in the mythical tradition of JRR Tolkien and David Eddings as well as the imaginative worlds of LJ Smith, JK Rowling, and L Frank Baum; this is the four epics of adventurers who find their fates intertwined to defeat the sinister workings of the cunning monster overlord, known only to humans as The Shadow. With the flavor of classic RPGs, The Rowanoak Chronicles delves deep into the new world created to take readers on a fantasy adventure of their own.

A Note From the Author: Hello; my name is Gema, and welcome to my world! This novel happens to be my project for my thesis, which is why I am posting it here. I'd like to maybe even have it published one day (though that would be bitter-sweet since I would have to remove it from this site when that happens, but it would be the greatest dream come true for me). Currently, though, this is only the first draft so I have a long way to go. I would greatly appreciate constructive criticism on it; that is, criticism that can help me build up and improve this story to its fullest. The areas I am most interested in receiving feedback on are; consistency of the voice, vividness and appropriateness of the details, development of the characters, and balance of action and plot development. I'd like to know what sections work well and what sections need improvement; suggestions on how to improve are always welcome. I also like reactions; if something surprises, confuses, makes you cry, or otherwise prompts an emotional reaction I would love to know!
Here's how the storyline works. Rowanoak is going to be 68 chapters set in three novels--its a trilogy; so please keep that in mind as you read and give everything proper time to unfold. It is a merger of four different, overlapping plotlines so every fourth set will cycle back to the same group; ie, chapters 1, 5, 9, 13 etc deal with the first group; 2, 6, 10, 14 etc deal with the second group; 3, 7, 11, 15 etc deal with the third group; and 4, 8, 12, 16 etc deal with the last group. As well as cycling through groups, each character will cycle through giving his or her point of view. It probably looks more confusing typed out, but it should be easy enough to catch on to once you start reading.
Thank you for taking your time to read this work that is so very important to my life at the moment. And, as always, please read, review, and enjoy! :) |
