This one, however, is only 5x7 inches, so small, but perfect size for experimentation. I painted the entire canvas black, then let it dry for about forty five minutes. I spent that time working on the final painting.Then I went back to this, and painted it with mostly white and light blue acrylic paints. I especially love how the icy core came out. And so, I have more confidence of not ruining the final painting because, as you can see, the ice is almost transparent, and the final painting has a lot of background so I don't want to ruin the background. I finally decided on \Communication Breakdown\ as a theme for this painting. Far different than my original idea where I had two same person trapped within themselves, trying to perceive which one of themselves is cleaner--sin nature wise. Done all in acrylic. Probably took me about 20 hours to complete the painting which is on the canvas of 20 by 24 inches. Used masking tape for the background, hence why the lines are so sharp. I wanted to experiment with the masking tape since I was suspicious of their use. I love them now. The one thing I love about the painting is her hand, signing the letter A in American Sign Language. It came out really well, thanks to Lady Macbeth's suggestion of studying hands. Actually, I went almost on a whim (outlined with light blue paint) and without references except for my own hand since I originally didn't have her signing. The next one will be Yuki, and he will be blue. But other than those two, I like how it came out because of the shading done with paint. It was fun doing a self portrait, as for the shirt, I had to do a reverse of the word, or it would be hard for me to paint it backwards. I hate how tanned the face is, it should be as pale as the right arm. It took me about 3 hours to paint, from sketch to completion. I rather liked how calm his eyes appear instead of angry or otherwise. And I especially love the kunai that I painted. It's all done in Acrylic, with inking the lines with a marker-pen with a brush tip. I drew the sketch on 11.4 and finished it on 11.7.07. The painting process took me perhaps 10 hours total, not including the sketch. The one thing I hate the most are his fingers, the rest, I adore it. In its .psd file, the piece is 102 mb and a grande total of 92 layers. I drew the sketch in early August and it sort of accidentally came together in terms of posing. I've always wanted to draw a couple in a weird, awkward yet pleasing position. After the finished sketch, I became quite pleased by the result so I wanted a colored version of it. I also did a separate sketch of the background That began sometime earlier this week, probably August 26th. I believe it took me around a total of 15 hours for both pieces combined. Also, I experimented in this one as well, as I've made an extremely liberal use of multiple layers of the same object and used blending mode quite extensively. I think I rather like how the results came out. I think the only thing I wish I could have made changes to is her right shoulder/shirt which is out of porportion. Otherwise, I love everything about it. This is also a second time that I've done a dark scene/background so I'm also pleased with the background result. Lastly, this is first done with pencil on plain computer paper, scanned and colored in Photoshop 7. Thanks to fanilia for helping me with the title of the work. Then Mandy and I started talking about fashion designing and wanted to show her this. Then I got inspired to color it because I love the way the piece looked, especially her attitude. I would guess about 20 hours was spent coloring/line art'ing this artwork. I had fun with the furae technique in coloring this in PS7. I'm getting closer to my goal. =) [The goal is being able to create pieces that can be mistaken for photographs). I know I'll have to discard lines at one point, but not yet. And the background was taken by me back in 2005 Winter break. I tweaked with Sumi-e, vivid light and pin light of the background layers. The two is match made in heaven. First though, I drew the outline first with a HB pencil. After that, I put down the color pencils for the skin and shirt then ran it over with a white oil pastel. I blended the two with my fingers and that is the result. The otter itself was done with only oil pastels. The bubbles are done with color pencils then oil pastel as well. The hair is done the same way, though I don't really like the result of it. It was fun experimenting. The entire piece was on a 18 by 24. I had to take a careful picture of it because my attempted scanning job failed miserably as it did not do my work justice at all. (Handprints behind the paper, for instance.) It took me maybe a total of 15 hours, give or take an hour. This was inspired as so I could hang some of my artwork in a gallery that I was offered to. My only wish is that I'd make her head smaller. We had to design with 3 circles of three different colors (red, blue and yellow), 3 triangles of the same three different colors and another 3 rectangles of three different colors. My teacher also allowed us to multiply the number. So, in the end, I worked with 4 multiples of the three different shapes and colors. Got a really good grade on it (98%). The canvas is roughly 17 by 20 inches so I had to take a careful picture of the entire thing and fiddled with it a bit in photoshop 7. It took me at least 2 weeks to work on this, from rough draft to final. So, I'd clock my hours to maybe 20 hours altogether, if that. The only reason why I didn't get a 100% is because of the blue 'eclipsed' circle on the outermost part from the yellow light, I shouldn't have shaded that in but oh well. The meaning of this piece was quite by accident. It was going to be a light, then a web, then a spider in a pipe running away from the light. Unfortunately, I was unable to submit this because I thought I had lost the file forever due to loss of my thumbdrive. Fortunately, I didn't lose the original file and it was on my laptop all along when I was looking through the files. Anyway, as for the piece itself, it was one huge file, the PSD file was just over 56 MB and the original JPEG file was over a megabyte. I used 56 layers, and all of them except two layers, are grouped into 5 sets. I have lost count of how long I have worked on this, though, I have been working on this on and off for the past 8 months, with a great chunk of 'off' months due to 'loss' of the file. As for the image itself, I know there are a lot of lineart errors, but I also love how it turned out. the shading, the shoe (proudest pair of shoes I have ever created for the girl with blue hair. the patterns used are ones coming with the Photoshop 7 bundle of patterns and I must say, it turned out really well. I came up with the background quite on accident... By dupilcating the layer that was on the very bottom and bringing it to the most foreground, both have lights around....
