CHAPTER ONE
There were quite a lot of people helping out with gardening. Some worked in the green houses, some were working the main-lawn, and some were helping with refreshments. Jonesy even managed to secure a job selling lawn-equipment, like riding-mowers, hoses, tools, even packaged-soil. “I told you I could get a job.” he boasted to Nikki. His wife sighed, “All right, all right… but lets see how long you can keep it.”
It sure was hot, but everyone wore shorts, and Mrs. McMurty, was there to motivate us all. “Those are weeds, not a dog leash. Give it some backbone!”
The guy managed to pull them out successfully.
“At' a boy!”
Wyatt was driving one of the riding-mowers a she helped cut the grass he always wanted to drive one. “This is actually fun.” He said. “Wee…!”
Caitlin, Jen, and I couldn't help but chuckle as we watered the plants and did some trimmings of the shrubs and trees. “Looks like someone's having a good time.” Jen said.
Jude came along carrying a giant empty water jug. “I don't think you picked up enough these.” He said. “This is the last one and the grass still isn't all watered.”
A lot of the people were shocked and disappointed upon realizing what he had done. “Jude…!” I snapped at him “That water was for us! It's hot out here.”
“Oops…!” groaned Jude.
Still, all wasn't hopeless, we just refilled all the jugs with the hose-water, and we'd just have to accept that it wasn't as cool and refreshing. Work continued…
Caitlin was still having a little trouble weeding and she broke a nail while trying to pull a weed out, which didn't make sense as was wearing gardening-gloves. “Ooh… that smarts.” she cried.
“Need a hand…” said a voice form behind. Caitlin turned and saw a cute guy, tall, and had short brown hair, and they each exchanged looks of flirting.
(Whoo-ooh)
“I'm Ross… I'm a volunteer gardener.”
Caitlin spoke a dazed voice. “I'm Caitlin… and I don't know anything.”
Ross chuckled, “Okay then. But look… if you want to weed properly… let me show you how to do it.” He guided her every step of the way, almost like a couple in a pottery. “Pst… guys…!” Nikki motioned. “Look…”
We all gathered together and saw Caitlin and Ross working together, and of course, Caitlin be a fast mover, and luckily Ross was just that kind too, they kissed already. “Looks like Caitlin's found herself another… “The one” Wyatt teased.
By mid afternoon, all the work was done. The grounds were just lovely. Lots of vegetables were picked, and Jonesy even sold a lot of the lawn equipment, that the manage was willing to hire him to work for his store at the mall, “Garden Gnomes”
“Sweet!” Jonesy remarked.
Mrs. McMurty couldn't thank every one of us enough, however, this time, instead of brownies and stuff, she gave us all a bag of fresh picked vegetables. Some were dismayed, but everyone, including the gang and I was thankful. These vegetables were grown with the finest soil and fertilizer. That was why the tomatoes were so juicy, and the other vegetable were sure to taste just as good. “My mom's going to love these.” said Nikki “She'll make one of her trademark Chinese stir-fry.”
Wyatt enjoyed a good plate of vegetables with steak dinners, and the rest of us decided to do our little projects with them. “I'm gonna put all these things on a homemade pizza.” said Jude. The rest of us gawked at him. “All of them…?” I asked.
“Uh… Jude… don't you think that's a little much for you?” added Jen, but Jude didn't care. “Who knows? It might even taste cool. Ya won't know unless you try. The soul cannot live on just meats, cheese, and bread alone.”
The rest of just shrugged, and we all headed back to the mall across the street. As we went, Jen had to ask Caitlin about Ross, and Caitlin was as giddy as ever. “He even invited me out to do some more gardening with him at the community garden tomorrow.”
We all gave our congratulations, but suddenly, Caitlin sneezed. “Ooh…! Gazuntite…!” said Nikki. Caitlin sneezed again, but luckily she carried tissues in her pocket. “What's going on?” she asked, her voiced sounded off because her nose felt stuffed up.
“Caitlin…? Are you allergic to pollen and plant spores?” asked Wyatt.
Caitlin sniffled, “I never have been before… at least I don't think.” This could only be due to the fact that Caitlin never actually worked or hung around such a busy area with plant life before. “Maybe you should take it easy.” I suggested. “You could get worse than just sneezing.”
“How bad…?” asked Jude.
We all explained the different effects of allergies, like itchy eyes, runny nose, and rash on the skin. Even Jen's gaseousness if she ate mushrooms, “And worse…” Jonesy teased. “Some allergic reactions can make you do crazy things like psycho from the big house.”
“Dude…! For real…?” asked Jude.
As much as Nikki didn't like it when Jonesy was teasing like that, “It's true… when my dad eats shellfish, he starts to act like a solider of the emperor's brigade.”
Jude felt his head rushing, he really hoped nothing like that would ever happen to him.
That night, he made his pizza just as he said he would, and put pretty much all the vegetables on it… even some that didn't go great with pizza like the cucumbers and string beans.
“Dude…! Smokin'…!” he remarked as he ate up his concoction. It surprisingly tasted pretty good, for him. Still, he had to use the bathroom quick, only because eating so many vegetables at once was a shock to someone who was used to eating processed foods.
He didn't feel anything strange, just sleepy, and he just dropped right off… while still in the bathroom like the heavy sleepy he was.
Author's notes:
Just checking… but you guys do know what happens when it goes…
(Whoo-ooh….)
Or this one…
(Mmm… Dar… Darna-dar-dar-dar-darm)
Right…?
