Operation double cooking twin switching day!
The next morning…Mai was having a hard time getting sai out of the door. Today was a new semester and they had new electives to take. Mai signed her sister up for a cooking class because her sister could use the experience. Sai hates cooking because it's one of something's she isn't good at. Mai grabbed her sister's arm and pulled her out of the apartment door and locked it.
“Will you please stop your belly aching?! Cooking isn't that big a deal.”
Sai shudders. “You don't get it. You don't know who the cooking teacher is! It's Mr. Kaseda the worst cooking teacher ever! I heard that last year he made two students wash dishes until their fingers fell off and the year after that he made two more students shred cabbages just because they ruined the food.” Soon sai's face turned blue. Mai sighs and grabs her sister by her book bag.
“They're just rumors, now come one! Walk!” Mai barked as she dragged her whiny sister all the way to school. They met the BladeBreakers on the way…well the only two…Kai and Ray. They explained that tyson and max decided to skip.
Sai was still shaking. “They're lucky! I don't want to be here right now!”
Ray tilted his head. “Why not?”
Sai started blushing again. “W-well…I'm not a very good cook…” she replied quietly. She assumed that ray didn't hear her. Ray smiled at her shyness. Kai and mai rolled their eyes at them.
“Me and ray are gonna go ahead, you get the train wreak together.” Kai said as he walked to the cooking class with ray.
Mai turns to her sister. “There's no point in delaying it any longer, being late will just make it worse.”
Sai slumps her shoulders. “For once I envy tyson and max for being absent today.”
Mai grabs her sister's hand and tugs her to home economics.
“Ooh! Wait! I'm not ready to go yet!!”
“It's not so bad once you know what you're doing.”
“Ooh! I wish the school would catch fire so I wouldn't have to go!” Sai complained.
Tick Tock…Moments later.
“Aaaahhhhh!!” Sai shrieked. Sai and her grouped watched with wide eyes as they're rice burned inside the pot and the smoke float out the window.
“Maski!” The teacher bellowed over the class making sai flinch. “Did I or did I not tell you to keep the burner on low?!”
“But it is on low…” Sai stated meekly.
The teacher sighed and walked over to her group to fix the damage. The stirred the rice gently. “You do it like this, use smooth and gentle strokes.” He hands her the flat spoon. “Now you try it.” He ordered.
“Yes, sir” Sai took the spoon and copied the teacher's movements with determination to get it right. She had a concentrated look on her face that went almost unnoticed.
“You better do it right this time!” The teacher bellowed, breaking her concentrated look and made her weep tears. “Yes!” She cried in a scared voice.
Ray watched in sympathy. He really wanted to be in her group but didn't have any luck. He was stuck with kai and mai. (Not saying it like it's a bad thing.)
“Mr. Kaseda is really giving her a hard time, isn't he?”
Kai and mai nod their heads.
“Cooking isn't one of sai's strong suits. I brought bad-aids for her just in case.” Mai told them as she watched her sister in concern.
“That's nice of you.” Kai commented while chopping some ingredients and puts them into the pot.
“I have to look out for her. She's been kind of depressed since last night when our parents called. But I think she's doing okay.” Mai directed her attention to Mariah's group who were snickering at sai's dilemma. “Speaking of looking out...Mariah seems to be getting a kick out of watching my sister squirm. What I would give to …” Then she got an idea. Mai casually bumps shoulders with ray, causing his left hand to drop some spice into the foot they were making. Then she stepped on his foot and on reflex he lifted his foot and kept on hand on the counter to keep balance but his hand slipped because of water and he knocked over more spices into the food they were making. Mr. Kaseda saw parts where ray was knocking over spices.
“I'll deal with you next!” He bellowed.
Ray jumped and then shot a glare at mai. “What did you do that for?”
“I thought I saw a cockroach and I tried to kill it. Sorry.” She said innocently.
Ray sighed and cleaned the mess up muttering things that she couldn't hear.
Kai looked inside the pot. “No way is this going to taste good when this is done.”
“It'll be fine, just gotta balance out some of the stuff.”
“Whatever, listen I need your help. Tomorrow after school, tyson, ray, max and I need to go to the BBA training facility to reorganize one of the training rooms and we might need your help.”
Mai turned red when kai turned to face her fully. Her eyes automatically went to his.
“Sure, I can do it.” `I never noticed that when we were kids…kai had cool eyes…'
`Awesome she's going to go. Don't know why I'm relieved. I guess I just don't want to be left alone with those guys.'
Moments later all the groups finished cooking and they began eating. Sai's group had a problem getting the food into their mouths.
“I just can't eat it I'm scared.” Sai said meekly.
“It's too salty. How much salt did you put in?” the girl asked another.
“A table spoon like the list said.” The girl answered.
Sai picked up the list and read it over. “It says tea spoon not table spoon.”
The whole group sweat dropped at the doom of a failed grade. Kai and his group did a pretty good job, it tasted horrible at first but it had a good after taste because of the mixed spices they added in. Soon it was clean up time and Mr. Kaseda went to the front of the class to make an announcement.
“Let me have your attention while you're all cleaning. The flowing students will report for cabbage shredding tomorrow after school.”
Sai closed her eyes and mutters.
“Maski! And of course, I mean Sai.”
Sai glares and said under her breath. “I know you don't have to say it.”
“And for a change of pace…Ray! That's all.”
Mai makes a kitty face and leans over to ray. “Oh, la, la, you sly cat. You get to be alone with my sister.”
Ray's face turned a dark shade of red. “What have you done?”
Later that night at the twins house
Mai stood up from her computer desk and pulled the virtual glasses off. She just finished playing Bey-saga with kai. She sat on her bed with a relaxed sigh. The door opened and sai poked her head in. “Hey, sister of mine…”
Mai sat up. “Uh-oh, I know that look.”
“Yes, I'm giving you that look. I have a big problem and if you were my sister you wouldn't let me face it.”
“What do you want?” mai sighed.
“We're twins right? Which means we look a lot alike?”
“Really? I always wanted a twin sister…” Mai shrank under her sister's intense gaze. Sai has a bad aura radiating off of her. “Uh…I don't think I like where this is going….”
Tyson's dojo
Ray was pacing back and forth in front of kai. Kai sat up from the bed and pulled off the virtual glasses. He was playing Bey-saga with mai. He looked at ray in question.
“You're still pacing? Is tomorrow that big a deal?”
Ray finally stopped and sat down. “Yes. You know by now how I feel about sai…I'm such an idiot when t comes to girls. I can barely understand Mariah.”
“Are you putting them on the same level?”
“No they're on completely different levels. I think I know my feeling between the two of them. But this is all mai's fault. She's up to something!”
“When is she never up to something? It's in her nature to be naturally devious.”
“What are feelings for mai?”
Kai didn't say anything and just walked out the room.
“You're going to have to tell me sometime!” Ray called out.
Back to Mai and Sai
Sai turns around and giggles like mai would, but then groans in annoyance and pulls the wig off. “On second thought maybe I should just face the music.”
Mai comes up to her from behind and places the wig back on.
“You'll be fine if you wear the wing like this. I'm already starting to like the idea of switching places with you! We haven't done it since we were kids. No one will ever find out so let's do it.”
Sai nods in agreement.
`Sorry, Ray. The one chance I get to be alone with you and I chicken out.'
Next Day
Mai and sai stood outside the apartment building. Mai was waiting on kai to drive her to school and sai was about to eave to catch the train.
“I can count on you after school, right? You'll stick to the plan?” Sai asked.
Mai cocks her head to the side. “We actually have a plan? I was going to wing it for the day, honestly.” Sai glares and growls at her. “Uh…I mean… Sure you can count on me! It'll be like we never switched places!”
Kai soon came out with his back pack over hid shoulder. Sai took that as her cue to leave.
The whole day managed to go off without a hitch. Ray and Kai did notice that mai and sai were acting tense like they couldn't wait for the day to be over. They would catch them looking at the clock every 10 minutes. The final bell rang signaling that school was over. The halls were crowded with kids and mai and sai made a bee line to the girl's bathroom to switch outfits. They traded wigs and sai handed mai her apron she used for home economics. The twins inspected each other and nodded in approval.
“Okay, good, now try talking like me.” Mai told her.
Sai made a fist. “Kai is such a dork! If I ever see that loser again it'll be too soon. The next time I see him I'll punch his lights out before he can even get a word in, then I'll kick him with all my strength that even his flaming chicken won't know what hit him!”
(In the hall kai stopped suddenly and looked around. Ray stopped too and wondered what was wrong with him.
“What's up?”
“Someone just called dranzer a flaming chicken…”)
Mai gasped. “Am I really like that?”
“Yes you are.” Sai quipped. “Now try me.”
Mai faked a blush on her face and had starry eyes. “Oh, Ray, thank you so much for helping me with cleaning duty, you're so nice.” Mai even added a giggle for effect.
Sai shudders. “Ew! I sound like Mariah mixed with a preppy high school girl with her first crush. Why didn't anyone tell me that I sound like that?”
Mai pushes her out of the stall. “No time to dread on it now. Time for me to go to home economics and you have to get out of here.”
Both girls casually walked out of the girl's bathroom just in time to see kai and ray. Kai and ray automatically felt something wrong. Their hearts were beating rapidly for the wrong girl.
`Why is my heart pounding for mai?' Ray thought as he clutched his shirt.
`Why is my heart pounding for sai?' Kai thought while clutching his shirt.
Kai shook his thoughts. “Mai, ready to go now?”
Sai/mai answered uncertainly, “Go…where?”
Mai/sai gasped in realization, `Shoot! I forgot!' She leans over and whispers in sai's ear. “I forgot to tell you that kai needed my help at the BBA training facility.”
“You…WHAT?!”
Mai/sai breaks from her and grabs ray's hand and tugs him to the home economics room.
“Come on, or we'll be late and get scolded by Mr. Kaseda again.”
Sai/mai shakes her fist in rage. `The whole plan is screwed!!' Sai reluctantly followed kai out of school and to the BBA training facility.
In the home economics class Mai and ray were miserably shredding the cabbages with Mr. Kaseda breathing down their necks.
“For cooking, you need love, deep emotion and rhythm! Don't focus on shredding the cabbage, keep the beat. You must work as one!” Mr. Kaseda barked.
`What is he? Some master chief or a director in a marching band?' mai thought.
Ray looks at sai out of the corner of his eye. `That's weird…I thought sai didn't know how to cook…she's doing really well almost as well as mai. My heart isn't pounding like it usually does when I'm standing close to her.'
Mr. Kaseda noticed that ray stopped chopping. “Looks like someone lost his rhythm!”
He slams another cabbage on the table. “Start over from the beginning.” He ordered.
“What?” they exclaimed at the same time.
Mai points to the shredded cabbage. “Listen here, I've been chopping these things perfectly, you can make a nasty salad!” Sai suddenly didn't sound like sai anymore.
Ray and Mr. Kaseda eyeballed her in shock. Mai quickly recovered.
“Uh…I would like to continue…” `This is harder than I thought…'
At the BBA training facility tyson, max and sai/mai were moving a heavy Bey dish to the center of a pale blue room. They already lugged place mats and other machinery for training and they were reaching their limit. Sai and tyson collapsed on the floor in exhaustion. Kai walked in lugging duffle bags and small weights.
“How can you be tired after moving a dish? There are three more to move.”
Tyson groaned. “Three more?!”
Sai panted. “No more! Please kill me.” Max hoisted her up to her feet.
“If you do a good job, I'll treat you to ice cream.” That encouraged sai to stand up.
`After this maybe I should start working out.'
At school Ray and Mai finally managed to finish shredding cabbages. Mr. Kaseda even put in a few good words for sai. On the way out Mai and Ray ran into Mariah who was waiting outside at the school gates.
“There you are ray! I've been waiting for you. It's not nice to keep a lady waiting, you know.” Mariah stated as she grips onto ray's arm.
Mai smirked evilly and snickers.
“What's so funny?”
“You pink ditz! You call yourself a lady, but honestly you're just an annoying little pink pimple that needs to go pop.”
Ray and Mariah gasp in shock at her response. Sai wouldn't say something like that; even if she would she wouldn't have the courage to do it.
“Sai! What's gotten into you today?” Ray asked.
Mariah's eyes turned to slits and she showed her cat fangs. “You want to say that again, geek? I know you don't have the guts.”
“What do you know about me, anyway?” Mai countered. “Unlike you, I don't try to put on acts that practically say `hi, everyone how stupid can I look today?' that's you.”
Mariah was about to pounce on her, but Hilary showed up with a message for ray about the BBA training facility. Bells and whistles went off in mai's head and she ran down the street without a second thought, leaving the others in the dust.
Mai stopped in front of the building to catch her breath. Ray soon caught up to without a problem. Amazing with what running a hundred laps can do.
“Sai, you've been acting weird all day. You shouldn't have said those things to Mariah. I know how nasty she can be to you and your sister, but don't stoop to her level, okay? You're cool the way you are.”
Mai looked at ray in amazement. `We picked the wrong day to switch places. Sai is missing out on all the sappy romance crap.'
Ray took something out of his bag and handed it to mai.
“This is for you. I image that kai already gave one to your sister. We figure it might come in handy when it comes to Bey-saga.”
“Thanks.”
They entrance doors opened up and sai came out looking exhausted. Her hair was out of place and she had kai holding her up.
“Mai, you okay? You look terrible.” Ray asked in concern.
“Four heavy Bey dishes, heavy weights, and six punching bags…” She panted out.
“I thought she couldn't handle it, but she actually did really well.” Kai told them.
Mai took sai from kai and allowed sai to lean on her.
“Thanks guys, but we're going to go home now. See you later.”
Once at home sai and mai tore off the wigs and discarded them. Mai lied down on her bed. Sai came into the room with an old wet washcloth for her head.
“I never want to switch places with you again.” Sai declared as she sat on her bed.
“Yeah, I don't want to do it anymore. It's such hard work. Oh and don't be surprised if Mariah starts shouting off some things at you.”
“You said something you shouldn't have didn't you?” sai groaned.
“Something about a pink pimple going pop.” She replied like it wasn't a big deal.
Sai placed a hand on her forehead. “Mean! We really are nothing alike.”
“Nope, nothing at all, we're completely opposite.”
They laid in silence for a while, and then sai asked, “No one noticed the switch, huh?”
“Nope, people are naturally dense about stuff like that.”
They shared a good quiet laugh. “That's the way we are…yin and yang…”
“…Big and small…” Mai continued and together they said, “…you and me…”
Sai's cell phone rang. That broke the touchy sister moment.
“Hello?”
“Hey, sai…” It was ray!
“H-hello, ray. Is something wrong?” sai stuttered out.
“No. I just wanted to check on you again since you weren't acting like yourself.”
“Not acting like myself?” Sai shot an accusing glare at her sister.
“Mai told us earlier about your parents. Is there anything I can do to help you cope? I know how tough parents can be at times.”
Sai smiled warmly. “Forgive me if this sounds corny…but…I think I'm going to okay because know that I still have a sister and friends that care about me…”
On the other line ray was smiling. He was glad that she was okay. He was just worried about the build up stress she might be holding inside.
“It's not corny at all because it's true. If you ever need my help with nothing…let me know okay?”
“Okay! Thanks for everything!” Sai was definitely happy now.
She hung up and turned to her sister who already fell asleep. Sai followed her example and feel asleep too.
The next day….
Sai and mai shouted at the shadow clones, “ENOUGH ALREADY!! WE'RE DONE!!”
They kicked them out of the room and everyone closed up for the day.
