“Let us end this.” I said as I looked down at the sword in my hand, sending my reiatsu into the blade once more. “Level 3: Sword of Hell.”
I watched as the blade grew thin and long, now double-edged unlike its previous forms. My heart continued to pound in its excitement, the adrenaline surging through my veins a welcome rush. Readying my sword I ran forward, flying down the stairs through the air of spirit particles. As I dove deeper into the forbidden building I suddenly noticed I could see my breath. I shuddered involuntarily as I felt the discernable drop in temperature.
Here!” shouted Ryuujin as we reached the bottom of the staircase. “He's still here somewhere!”
Slowing my pace, I suppressed as much of my reiatsu as possible to maintain the element of surprise. As I made my way past the main chamber the smell of both fresh and old blood invaded my nose. Looking inside I could see Captain Unohana and Lieutenant Isane standing over the bodies of who I guessed to be Hitsugaya Toshiru and Hinamori Momo. The two must have sensed my presence because they turned to look at me, both wearing looks of extreme strain.
“Where is he?” I asked, careful not to slip on any ice as I approached them.
“I do not know.” said Captain Unohana, her gaze meeting mine. “But I have a feeling you know what he is after.”
“But his zanpakuto…” said Isane. “Is it truly that powerful?”
“You've seen it with your own eyes haven't you?” I asked, not very sympathetic as I was wasting time standing here talking.
“And I suppose you've discovered a method of blocking it?” asked Unohana and I couldn't help but let out a little laugh.
“Don't worry about me. After all, what is the death of one convict to the betterment of Soul Society?” I asked sarcastically as I turned to leave.
“Be careful.” said Captain Unohana and I stopped. “Convict or no, you are fighting for what you believe is right.”
“Save it. I don't need your permission to do anything.” I said as I looked over my shoulder.
“No, I suppose you don't.” said Captain Unohana before she started turning. “Good luck to you.”
I nodded before slipping into flash step, Ryuujin crawling to the forefront of my mind.
I don't suppose you know where he is?” asked Ryuujin crossly, her claws digging into my mind in her frustration.
“If he has accomplished all that he needed to at the Chambers of the Central 46, then he has most likely moved on to collecting the hogyoku.” I said as I exited the Chambers. “And if Ichigo has succeeded in preventing the execution, Aizen will most likely have to remove it personally. If we're lucky, that'll take time.”
As I leapt to the top of the nearest building I felt something click and suddenly I could hear Lieutenant Isane.
“Kuura Tentei! Connection complete. To all the Gotei 13 Captains, Lieutenants, and all seated shinigami, as well as the drifters. This is the Lieutenant of the 4th Division, Kotetsu Isane. I hope you can all hear me. This is an emergency message from Captain Unohana of the 4th Division and myself. I request your attention for a little while. Everything I am about to tell you is the absolute truth.” said Lieutenant Isane, sounding as though she managed to put herself back together again.
What does that woman think she's doing!?” asked Ryuujin, her temper flaring as Isane continued.
“The more people who know about Aizen, the less people will interfere when we kill him.” I said, the Sokyoku coming into sight.
Shinigami…” huffed Ryuujin before withdrawing. “If anyone interferes we kill them.”
“Don't worry, you'll get your chance.” I said as I started to ascend the hill.
Taking a deep breath I reached out to Ryuujin's power, but only taking enough to make my eyes turn black. The element of surprise was more important here than going all out and creating more problems than I planned on solving. Plus, that was all I needed to block Aizen's illusions.
“Nii-sama, why? Why for me!?”
I could hear a female voice, its owner nearing hysterics. As I got closer the girl was becoming more hysterical, and I could now see why. The man she held in her arms looked like he was dying of blood loss while Aizen was approaching her with his zanpakuto drawn. Throwing all caution to the wind I slipped into one final flash step, switching my sword into my left hand.
When I came out I was standing before Aizen, my free right hand preventing him from completing his attack. I couldn't help but glare at him, feeling a little smug at the second of confusion I saw in his eyes. Letting Ryuujin's power flood into my right hand I twisted it, breaking the blade as I brought my own sword up. I felt a surge of pride as I felt my blade hit its mark, drawing a blood as Aizen slipped into flash step to avoid a follow-up.
“Reijin-chan, it has been too long.” said Aizen with his usual smile after he slipped out of flash step, holding up what was left of his zanpakuto to block my next attack. “And I must admit I never tire of seeing your bankai. That armor looks very good on you.”
“Quit trying to sweet talk your way out of this.” I spat back as I switched my sword back into my bleeding right hand. The wounds were superficial, but the pain continued to shoot up my arm. “You've had this coming for over a hundred years. It ends now.”
“I'm afraid not for it seems that you've acquired something else that I want.” said Aizen as he blocked a blow to the head before slipping into flash step again.
“And what would that be?” I asked as he slipped out a few feet from me.
“That Vasto Lord that you have living inside of you.” said Aizen as he pointed at me with his free hand.
“Interesting theory.” I said, hoping that he wouldn't call my bluff.
“You're such a terrible liar, Reijin-chan.” said Aizen with a rather sick smile on his face. “I can only suppose you made a deal with that Hollow so you could gain enough power to defeat me.”
I snarled and raged on the inside that he could see through me that well, which wasn't helped by Ryuujin's urge to rip Aizen's head from his shoulders.
Attack, damn you!” shrieked Ryuujin. “You have him where you want him!”
“To bad you won't come willingly.” said Aizen as he started to sheath his broken zanpakuto. “Though I will still be able to beat you without the use of my zanpakuto.”
I readied myself for any kido that he planned on throwing at me, though that plan was shattered when Yoruichi and Soifon slipped out of flash step and incapacitated Aizen.
“Oh my… haven't seen you in a while.” said Aizen, glancing down at Yoruichi.
“Don't move. If you so much as flinch…” started Yoruichi, looking up at Aizen with pure loathing.
“I'll sever your head.” snarled Soifon, her zanpakuto never wavering from its position on Aizen's neck.
“I see…” said Aizen.
KILL HIM!” screamed Ryuujin, her power almost breaking through my resolve. “KILL HIM!”
Shut up and let me think!” I shouted back. “Why me?”
“Pardon?” asked Aizen as he looked back up at me, apparently unperturbed by his current situation.
“Why did you pick me?” I asked again, glaring at him.
“I don't really understand why.” admitted Aizen.
“Don't fuck with me.” I spat as I unconsciously took a step forward. “You had to have a pretty damn good reason for pulling all that shit with me!”
“Have you noticed that you have a tendency to curse more when you become enraged?” asked Aizen and I could have spit fire. I would have to, but I suddenly felt a large increase in reiatsu.
I looked up to see three of the four Guardians drop out of the sky, their faces set with grim determination. If there wasn't already, there was now a special place in hell for Aizen as it was quite clear he had either hypnotized them or had them heavily drugged.
“Shit.” I growled as I took stock of the situation.
“Impossible! Even they are on your side too!?” asked Yoruichi, her eyes wide.
“What will you do? Even you two can't fight them while keeping me under custody and even Reijin-chan cannot kill them in cold blood.” said Aizen calmly, his smile still on his face, knowing that I had figured out what he had done.
“Mother-fucker.” I hissed under my breath.
Even though his words were true, I gathered my reiatsu into my sword as I prepared to unleash a small Dragon Twister. It wouldn't be enough to kill, but hopefully enough to incapacitate them. As I lifted my sword to release the attack the last Guardian dropped from the sky, Kuukaku riding on his shoulder.
“Kuukaku!” said Yoruichi in a relieved tone as Kuukaku shot her a grin.
“Hey Yoruichi! I was getting bored so I came to see how you were doing!” shouted Kuukaku before turning to the task at hand. “Alright, let's go Jidanbou!”
“Okay!” shouted the giant Guardian as his companion started to prepare a kido.
“Bones of the beasts, sentou, kenshou, koutetsu no-sharin move and become a wind! Stop and become the sky! The piercing tune spreads throughout the land! Hadou 63: Raikou-hou!” shouted Kuukaku as she released the massive ball of energy, blowing away the nearest Guardian.
I watched as Jidanbou started doing his part, smashing in the face of the next nearest Guardian.
“Whoops, sorry Captain Aizen!” shouted Gin from his position off to my right as a woman who I recognized to be the Lieutenant of the 10th Division held a sword to his neck. “I got caught!”
“This is the end.” said Yoruichi as Aizen's face remained impassive.
“What?” asked Aizen as he turned his attention back to her.
“Don't you see, Aizen? There is nowhere you three can run.” said Yoruichi as officers started to appear.
“Aizen.” said Captain Ukitake as he, Captain Kyoraku, and his Lieutenant appeared.
“Captain Aizen.” said the man I recognized to be Lieutenant Iba.
“This is the end for you Aizen.” I said, my voice dripping with disdain as I raised my sword. “Prepare to die.”
“What's the matter? Just what is so funny Aizen?” asked Yoruichi as Aizen started chuckling.
“Oh, sorry. It's time.” said Aizen.
Menos Grande!” shouted Ryuujin, and Yoruichi must have felt it too as her eyes widened in shock.
“Run, Soifon!” shouted Yoruichi as she detached herself from Aizen just in time.
The Menos enveloped Aizen in their barrier, Soifon and Yoruichi barely escaping.
“Im-Impossible!” said a rather fat man who wore the badge of the 2nd Division.
Everyone watched in awe as a Menos hand ripped through the fabric of the sky and ripped it open, revealing a nest of gigantic Hollows as Soifon said, “Menos Grande!”
He even has the Menos under his thumb.” growled Ryuujin angrily, pacing back and forth in my mind like an angry cat.
Can you break through it?” I asked.
Not unless you harness all of my power.” said Ryuujin, clearly seeing that such an act was a terrible idea.
“So many! How many of those things are there!? No, wait, there's something in the back!” shouted the fat man again as something moved in the shadows behind the Menos.
I watched in frustration as more barriers were erected, this time around Aizen's accomplices. Barely containing a scream of frustration, I watched as the barriers started to pull them up on their little islands of dirt.
“He's floating!” shouted the fat man yet again and I suddenly realized why he was in the 2nd Division. Everyone was probably counting on Soifon to lose her patience with this moron and cut off his head. I really wouldn't blame her if she did.
The sound of Yamamoto's voice jerked me out of my musings and I couldn't help but laugh that he had to explain Negation to a Lieutenant. The Gotei 13 was slipping if they had instated two idiot Lieutenants.
“Tosen!” shouted Komamura and I looked over my shoulder to see him struggle to get to his feet next to his Lieutenant. “Come down Tosen! I don't understand! Why did you become a shinigami!? Wasn't it for your deceased friend!? Didn't you join the order to preserve justice!? Have you lost all of your morals!?”
Okay, I stood corrected. The Gotei 13 instated two idiot Lieutenants and an extremely naïve Captain.
“I told you Komamura, the only thing my eyes see is the path with the least bloodshed. Justice is always in that path. The path I chose to walk was justice.” said Tosen calmly as he continued to rise toward the rip.
“Tosen!” shouted Komamura, almost desperately.
“You even joined forces with the Menos, for what?” asked Ukitake, a look of extreme disgust on his face.
“To reach new heights.” said Aizen, as if Ukitake were a stubborn child who refused to see that two plus two equals four.
“How low have you fallen Aizen!?” asked Ukitake, almost spitting his contempt.
“Don't be so arrogant Ukitake. Since the beginning no one has ever stood in the heavens.” said Aizen as he gazed down at the sickly Captain. “Neither you nor I, or even God himself.” continued Aizen as he started to remove his glasses. “But that emptiness in the throne of heaven will be filled…” he ran a hand through his hair. “…from this day forth.” His glasses shattered through the sheer pressure of his reiatsu. “I will be the one to stand in the heavens. Goodbye to all the shinigamis. Goodbye to the young ryoka. For a human you entertained me very much. Oh, and farewell to you Reijin-chan. It was a pleasure to see you again.”
I was about ready to shout a nasty retort at him but he was quickly swallowed by the darkness. Swallowing the bitter words I settled with crushing what was left of Aizen's glasses with the heel of my foot. Turning around I watched as Inoue and the others ran over to Ichigo, all of them grouping around him as she began to heal him. Putting a lid on my disappointment I wandered over there, ignoring the shouting of the 4th Division's 3rd Seat. I let Ryuujin's fade away and blinked a few times as my eyes returned to their normal colors.
“Hey Reijin-san.” said Ichigo weakly as he looked up at me, a smile on his face. “Impressive bankai.”
“Impressive bankai yourself if you managed to beat Byakuya.” I said as I toed his sword. “How do you feel?”
“Terrible.” said Ichigo, looking away with his grin still in place.
“Reijin-san, you're bleeding.” said Chad and I looked down to see my own blood trickling down my sword.
“I guess I am.” I said as I lifted my arm, the dull throbbing suddenly spiking.
“Please, let us help with that.” said a member of the 4th Division as he ran up behind me.
“Don't worry about it.” I said as I switched my sword back into my uninjured hand and examined my hand. “I don't think Captain Unohana would be too happy if she lost one of her best customers.”
The two shinigami looked at each other before shrugging and hurrying off to see if there was another place they were needed. I shook my hand to try and stop some of the pain, but it didn't really help.
“Here, let me fix that quick.” said Inoue as she looked up at me.
“No, take care of Ichigo.” I as I watched Captain Unohana tend to Byakuya.
I left the group of friends and walked over to Captain Unohana. She looked up at me with a knowing look on her face as I held my hand out to her.
“You haven't been back a week and you already require medical assistance?” asked Captain Unohana as she took my hand and examined it. “This would be much easier if you were not in bankai.”
I released my reiatsu and let Honorable Ruler reform at his usual place on my hip. A small smile twitched at the edges of Captain Unohana's mouth as she prodded at the wounds with her fingers and pulled it closer for a better look.
“It doesn't look too serious but I suggest you let Lieutenant Isane wrap it up before it becomes infected.” said Captain Unohana as she continued to probe. “And I also suggest you stop by the 4th Division and pick up a healthy supply of contraceptives for the next time you and Captain Kenpachi decide to take over the 11th Division bath house.”
She looked me straight in the eye, finally allowing herself to smile as she let go of my hand.
“Please correct me if I'm wrong.”
“That easy to see, huh?” I asked, a little embarrassed that I had been caught. “How'd you manage to figure that out?”
“There is only one other occurrence where I have seen such serious wounds heal so quickly and that was when Captain Urahara tested one of his salves on a critical patient.” said Captain Unohana as she rose to her feet. “Now, if you will excuse me I must see Captain Kuchiki to the 4th Division.”

Wow, this took a little longer than expected. I tried to fit a little more in here, but it just didn't fit with the flow of the action so I left it out. It would be a little weird if Reijin and Aizen just started having a conversation in the middle of everyone and especially in the small time frame that Isane's announcement gives. So, like I said, it'll be in another chapter.

Once again, thanks to anihana and SweetYuya for reviewing. Hopefully more time will open up and I'll be able to write the next chapter a little more quickly.
