Me: *Sigh* Here we are again, writing at some weird hour.
Julian: Your fault…you're the one who woke up at 3:30.
Me: Who cares anymore? *Brightening up* We finally have a guest speaker from another anime!
Julian: Who? Don't tell me it's Gren, you've done enough to bring him back from the dead.
Me: Nope! It's…Ein!
Ein: Bark!
Julian: WHY!!??
Me: So I can annoy you. Go ahead Ein, tell `em what this is!
Ein: Bark, bark, woof, bark-bark, *growl* Translation: This is when Kani and Gren met; it pretty much explains the beginning of S-Level Hunters.
Me: There you have it! Now read on Cowboy Bebop fans!

“What's that? Should we check it out, Kai?” A large shaggy white head rose off the couch and red/purple dog eyes looked into green human ones. “I'll take that as a `yes' then,” the eyes turned back to the computer display. The ship took a curving turn and arched toward a small heap of what appeared to be scrap metal floating nowhere in particular. A few moments later the ship arrived and the hatch opened to let the captain out. “I'll be right back, Kai. Don't ruin the furniture,” she laughed.

Once she was close enough the captain had seen that the heap wasn't scrap, but it wasn't far from it either. It had been a ship, apparently on autopilot, for no person could be seen moving inside. Then…there was something moving. For just a second a flash of movement caught her eyes and the young space pilot made her way through the rubble to the cockpit. Forcing her way she saw what moved, `Someone's in here!' she mentally yelled at herself. Frantic, she twisted and turned; looking for any kind of suit of oxygen she could think of.

“I wasn't planning on being a hero today,” she said to the unconscious man. “You really messed up my day, you know that buddy?” she giggled. She pulled her helmet off after taking a long draw of air, and put the bottom to the man's face, letting him breath her oxygen while she pulled a knife from her pocket. Slowly, she cut one of the lines of oxygen and put the pipe into her mouth, her oxygen running out and feeling as though her lungs were about the explode.

She took back her helmet and cut the other tube off, forcing into the now breathing mouth of who ever she was saving. She quickly checked to see if he was stuck or strapped in and, satisfied when she found nothing keeping him in, pulled him out of the captain's seat. It was slow, but floating through the lack of gravity she found her way back to her own ship, the body still in tow. Once inside she called to Kai and the hatch closed behind her. “Smart dog,” she muttered taking the tubes out of her mouth and her new charge's. “Let's see what happened to you,” she said to the man, half-carrying him, half-dragging his body over to her couch. Once there she set him down gently and grabbed his feet, fully pushing him into lying down.

With shaking hands she began to undo the collar of what she know realized to be a dress. She slowly pulled it of his arms and gasped loud enough for Kai to raise his head in alarm. On his chest and stomach were large cuts and scrapes, most of which seemed to have already healed, though some seemed newer. “Someone really put you through the ringer, huh?” She stood up and walked to the bathroom and opened the cupboard above the sink. She found what she was looking for and hurried back to the couch. “This may sting, but bear with it,” she realized how much she sounded her mother and smiled sourly. She opened the jar she held in her hand and scooped a small amount of light blue gel into her hand, smoothing it over his scratches. A few weeks went by, every other day she applied the gel to his newer cuts, and she had yet for his eyes to even open.

“Why won't you wake up?” she muttered to him one day when she was done with the bandages she decided to add. She stood up and walked out of the room to put the gel away when she heard Kai begin to bark. She rushed back to the room and, seeing nothing odd, walked over to Kai. “What's wrong? Did something happen, Kai?” She followed his gaze and saw the form on the couch. “He's asleep Kai, let him rest, he'll wake up when he can,” she pat the dog n his shaggy white head and started toward the front of the ship.

“How long…how long have I been asleep?” said a tired and strained voice. The pilot turned back around and saw blue eyes looking at her from the couch.

“You're awake,” she muttered. The she shook her head lightly ad went back to the couch. Sitting down lightly she looked at the man she had been taking of. “I'm not sure…you've been here for about four weeks though. I found you in your ship, almost dead.”

“Then why'd you bring me here? Just because?” He strained to sit up a bit but when he felt a hand on his shoulder he looked back up.

“Don't. You're not strong enough yet. Just, go back to sleep or something.”

“I've had to much of that already, thanks anyway,” he said with a smile. “So, do I get to know who my savior is?”

“I'm a runaway. That's all I can really say about myself. I made up a name and left my old life behind.” She stood and walked over to the window, watching the stars float by slowly.

“And what is that name you made up?” he tried to sit again and this time managed it, propping himself up on a pillow.

“My name is Kani now. And that, in case you were wondering,” she pointed toward the white fur ball on the floor. “That's my dog, Kai. So how about you?”

“Gren.”

Kani smiled, “Is that it? Copying off me with the one name thing are you?”

“Actually the real things kinda long is all,” she nodded. “My name's Grencia Mars Elijah Guo Eckener.”

Kani stood thoughtfully for a second. “Nice to meet you Gren,” she said as she looked back to him. “Now, can I know a little more?”

“Like what?” Gren asked. He fixed the pillow so he could look at his surroundings. It was a small ship, the room he was in only large for the couch and a low table, which held a computer and keyboard, and a few leftover lunch containers.

“I don't know, your age maybe? Me, I'm almost sixteen.”

“Runaways seem to be the only thing that stays the same as the old days when everyone lived on Earth. Always the same age, always the same reasons.” Kani looked at him impatiently. “I don't really remember how old I am.”

“Well I'd question if you did. There was some kind of chemical dump around the area I found you in a few years back. Never really cleaned up the place and now if you spend to much time there it messes with your head. I guess We'll just have to make up an age for you. How about…twenty-seven?”

He smiled again, “That's a bit of an age difference between us isn't it?”

“Why should you care? It makes you young doesn't it?”

He nodded. “I never thought it would be this way again,” he muttered to himself. Kani heard the last part and looked up from the floor. “Everything in my life was so mixed and jumbled up before you helped me. Being normal doesn't seem to fit now.”

“Well, whatever happened before is in the past, let it go I say. Now you can be part of the Tiger crew!”

Gren looked up and smiled at Kani. Maybe being normal wasn't going to be so bad after all…
