Chapter 9 Good-Bye For Now

A/N: This chapter's sad. Don't cry, though.
A happy ending is coming.

Takashi san helps me pack the next day. Although
she doesn't show it, she's hurting, too. I don't hear from
Takuya san and the others all day. By dinnertime, I
don't want to eat anything. Takashi san doesn't force
me to. She sees how bad I feel. I go to bed early. I can
barely fall asleep, but somehow I manage to. Early, the
next morning, Takashi san wakes me up. I have to be
ready to catch the 9:15 A.M. flight back to America. I
take a shower and get dressed. I didn't want any
breakfast. Takashi san picks up my mom and we drive
to the airport. When we arrive there, we grab our
suitcases and go inside. Mom already purchased our
tickets online so we all take a seat on a bench and
wait.15 minutes later, Kouji san and the others quickly
come up to us followed by Mr. Minamoto. Takuya san
hands me a big card he has under his arm. "This is
from all of us," He says. "The kids at school even
signed it." Tears formed in my eyes. "Domo arigato," I
say, sniffing. That's why I haven't seen him and the
others yesterday. "We wanted to throw you a 'going
away party', but Junpei said we shouldn't because it
would just upset you even more and you probably
wouldn't show up," Izumi san says. I nod,
understandingly. That's O.K., I look down at Tomoki.
He has his head down and is quiet. Really quiet. I sit
my card to the side and put my hand on his head. He
looks up, green eyes wide with tears. Tears stream
down my face. I can't hold them in. Tomoki's my best
friend, next to Takuya san. I kneel down to him and hug him. I feel his small arms
wrap around my neck. "Be good, O.K.?" I whisper in his
ear. "Hai," He says in a soft voice. "I'm gonna miss you,
Yorande chan." I pull away, surprised. That's the first
time he uses "chan" next to my name. "Me, too, Tomoki
chan," I reply, happily hugging him again. "Me, too." I
stand up and hug Takuya san next. "Domo arigato for
befriending me first when no one else would," I say "No
problem," He replies. "And don't give Shinya a hard
time," I add, looking at him. He smiles. Even though, I
barely know him, he had grown to like me. Takuya san
smiles. "I'll try." "Have a good trip back home, Yorande
san," Shinya says. "Arigato," I reply. I hug Izumi san,
Junpei, and Kouichi. I look over at Kouji san. He smiles
and opens his arms to me."Kouji san!" I cry, and run
into them, sobbing wildly. I feel him rub my back gently.
"Shhhh," He hushes in my ear. "It's all right. Everything
is going to be O.K." I nod. "I love you, Kouji san." I love
you, too, Yorande chan." Then he kisses me. Everyone
claps. Don't ask me why. We let go for air after 2 whole
minutes. He smiles. I could just die looking at his smile.
I hug Takashi san last and the longest. After all, she is
the one who has taken care of me the whole time here.
I'm gonna miss her a lot. Mom picks up some of my
suitcases as the flight is being called. I pick up the rest
of my suitcases and my card. I start walking to my gate
slowly, looking back at the other. The look on their
faces pains me. I hate it.

I immediately run up to my room and slam the door
after we get back home. I threw myself onto my bed
and broke down crying. I fall asleep. I don't know how
long I sleep, but when I wake up, I start unpacking.
Something in one of the pockets of the suitcases
catches my eye. It has a piece of fancy string tied to it.
It comes with a note. It says: "To my wonderful Yorande
chan,

This is a good luck charm. It will grant any wish your
heart desires. It is my gift to you. I hope to see you
again one day soon. Always keep your happy heart and
sweet smile.

With all my love,

Miyako Takashi

P.S. Everyone loves you. Never forget it. Kouji san is
coming to America. I can't tell you when, but he's
coming for you."

I close my eyes and sigh. "I wish the
others were coming, too," I whisper, holding the charm
close to my heart. Then I put the charm on top of my
dresser and finish unpacking my clothes.

Wow, nearly finished.
