---- Recap ----

[Chibi characters of the six appear in the foreground as scenes from the last episode play
in the background. Though, you can't see 'cause this is text. Haha!]

SSJ: Last time, we face Sauron. TM comes, followed by the Fellowship.

Amiko: They chase Sauron to the top of Barad Dur, and Sauron gets the Spatula.

Kensou: Cindy comes and shoots one of the special bullets at Sauron, melting the Ring and
Spatula.

Cindy: Sauron is later decapitated by Aragorn. Ugh, that looked painful...

TM: And then Rantmon makes his declaration to the world- a one man war.

Davis: And in the end, we head to the Red Mountains, where SSJ's hate is revealed.

All: And so! On with the show!

---- Chapter 59: Last Elegy ----

There was heavy breathing within a rather large room. It was the national council room,
which had collected dust over the months between Osseke's crisis and Rantmon's declaration.
Kino sat at the head of a round table, and around it sat the men in charge of Terra: Kale
West, Harrison Craig, and ten others. There were thirteen men in total, one less from the
original fourteen- Daedalus was still missing, even at such a crisis.

It had been stressful for the President Tsumuji, to say the least. With the disappearance
of the entire Advanced Terran Aerial Fleet still missing without a trace at all, Rantmon's
declaration of war was even more stressful. He never should have done the coup... Why was
everything happening to him?!

So he sat there, leaning back in his chair with his arms crossed. A man a bit older than
Harrison was standing up beside a screen. A projector in the center of the table shone an
image of the map of Terra, with various markings and dots made upon it. The room examined
the map; one large red point indicated Rantmon's position just over the valley within the
Red Mountains. The satellites circling the planet calculated his velocity, and indeed, with
a straight course, he would arrive at the center of the Rift in ten days and some hours.

It made Kino wonder. "What's so special about the Rift?" he asked.

No one was able to answer except for the usual, "It has high magical content, sir."

"I know that," he replied. "But... Still. There's something strange about it. Even with the
magical content there, there has to be a reason why he needs to be there in order to kill
us. Hell, by principle, being the Creator alone should give him enough power to destroy.
Why he needed to capture the Gods, let alone head for the Rift is a wonder..."

Everyone was silent then. They realized Kino's logic was right. The Rift had a secret that
no one had discovered. But, it was no time to ponder such details. Five red dots appeared
on the screen, this time at the western edge of the large valley Rantmon was leaving. The
Outlaws were just on Rantmon's heels. They certainly weren't in range to contact, since
they were in the middle of the Red Mountains and all.

"What shall we do about this, Master Kino?" another of the Council asked.

Kino looked up at the screen and the map, thinking about the possibilities. It certainly
was a difficult problem; nothing they had could equal Rantmon's power... Nothing they had
could be useful. They needed materials and weapons to fight Rantmon. Kino then remembered
someone. He commanded, "Bring me Hayden Morningwood."

One of the other Council members picked up a phone connected to the table and began
speaking into it. The room paused as Kino looked up at the screen again, thinking.

***

Despite the slow wait for the apocalypse, birds seemed to sing just the same. They were so
care free. They never knew of the worries or troubles that would befall the world. Wars and
plagues have swept continents, and they still sang with all their hearts. It made the
people at Hinata Sou more depressed. Shinobu slowly stirred the pot of soup, hardly
invigorated or energized. She just sighed as she lifted the spoon and tasted the soup. Not
salty enough.

She reached for the salt shaker and raised it over the pot, only then did the phone
suddenly scream. She was startled, dropping the shaker in the pot as she looked back at the
phone. She turned back to the pot and turned off the flames, and then she stepped to the
phone and picked it up. "Hello, this is Hinata Sou," she spoke into the phone.

A deep and serious voice called from the other line, "Hello, miss. I am Mister Ken Ichizaka
of President Kino's Council. The President wishes to speak with Mister Hayden Morningwood."

Shinobu nearly dropped the phone and gasped. A sweat bead rolled down her face as she
weakly stepped through the house. She called weakly through the house, "Hayden-san!" She
stepped up the stairs and passed Kitsune's room. Kitsune opened the door to the noise and
saw Shinobu knock on Hayden's door. It opened and Hayden looked at Shinobu. She told him,
"It's Ichizaka-san from the President's Council. He says President Kino wishes to speak
with you."

Kitsune overheard and of course was scared then. She crawled out of the room as Hayden took
the phone, "Hello?"

"We have Mister Morningwood," he heard Ichizaka call back from over the line.

***

Kino looked at Ken Ichizaka, who had just announced Hayden's call. Kino turned to a red
phone just beside him, and he picked it up and said, "Mister Morningwood?"

Hayden replied, "Yes, President Tsumuji?"

Kino paused. The voice sounded too young. He turned to Ichizaka and said, "This can't be
Hayden Morningwood. He should be around fifty-five; this man is too young."

Hayden overheard it and called from the other side, "I can explain, Mister President. I am
the Sand Alchemist, Hayden Morningwood Junior, son of Hayden Morningwood Senior who served
under your father as State Alchemist."

"I never knew he had a son."

"He never did like me. My mother died in giving birth to me."

"Hm, I see," Kino said quite impartially. "Well, since you are a State Alchemist, you still
can help the world. I need your help in order to mine some celesium."

There was a pause and a crack. It was as if Hayden dropped the phone from the other side.
Kino heard Hayden pick it up and ask, "Did I hear you right? You want to mine celesium
again? Of course you know the difficulties of doing it, but... Why? What can justify the
danger of going in there again?"

"I can understand your concern," Kino replied, "but it is for a very good reason. My
machines need to be equipped with them to handle Rantmon. Not only that, but my own weapon
is inadequate to fight Rantmon."

The Council immediately froze. The President was going to take part in the battle himself?!
He just signed on a few months ago! Now, he was going to guarantee death?!

Hayden paused again, pondering. He then returned, "I will see what I can do. But... How
shall I get there?" The missing ATAF wasn't exactly a secret or anything.

"My one private aircraft will take you there. I can arrive in a little over two hours.
Prepare yourself for a long period of duty."

"I shall, Mister President. Have a good day."

"You, as well." And Kino hung up the phone. Kino looked down on the table, still pondering.
He then looked up at the other twelve men and saw their nervousness and discomfort. They
looked at each other, discussing the events unfolding before them. They didn't have the
conviction to fight against Rantmon. They were cowards interested in self-interest. Kino
suddenly felt a great disdain towards his comrades.

He looked up at the screen again. This'll be it. The biggest crisis in the history of
history as going to unfold upon his lap, and he'll damn well won't let life be history when
he was leading. He shoved his chair back and got to his feet.

The twelve turned to him all of a sudden. Kale asked, "Where are you going, Mister
President? We still have much to discuss."

"We have nothing more of value to discuss," said Kino. "I'm going to the Trinity." Kino
stepped away and opened the doors at the end of the room. Light flooded into the room as
two distinct blocks on the ground. The doors seemed like monoliths as they swung open. Kino
left and closed the large doors with a bang, and silence washed over the Council.

***

Kino stepped towards his private glass elevator. It came to him with pinged as the doors
opened. He stepped inside and pressed the lower button on the council. The empty streets
disappeared from view then as the black ground rose up. Even the capital of the planet was
at a standstill with Rantmon's threat. No one was brave enough to even venture out of their
houses when their last days could be coming.

The elevator pinged again, and the doors opened. He saw the three monoliths standing there
amid the flashing consoles. He heard the long, soft turns of the giant fans in each of the
Trinity. The Id, Ego, and Superego were certainly working hard at logically determining a
solution. Kino stepped to a desk in the center of the three, where one computer awaited
him. A small red sphere stared at him. It flashed, and a voice came up from it, "Kino
Tsumuji, how are you doing?"

"A little worse than fine. You three have been working hard, so tell me the probability
that I should defeat Rantmon in a battle."

Beeps and blips were heard all around. "Based on his newfound power, your probability of
victory is .0000000000000000000001%."

"Then, why is it not zero outright?"

"The statistic is based around the assumption that the Gemini fight to all their ability
and then you fight immediately after that with a celesium tachi."

"And what if the Outlaws fight soon after?"

More beeps. "It is impossible to determine. They have experienced unprecedented growth in
the months after their sudden arrival. From a bare win against Kurosawa Eiji to defeating
the Four Enders, such a growth was never seen in the history of mankind. It is impossible
for such a wildcard to be measured." Kino was then about to speak, but it added, "However,
based on the most recent data alone from news of their fight with Sauron... The probability
of victory is 5.3%"

Kino paused. Yes, they were that much of a wildcard... Everything would have to rely on
them... The odds were stacked in Rantmon's favor, but if their cards were played right,
life would be saved. The Outlaws were who they needed right now to depend on. Kino then
said, "Thank you."

"You are welcome." Kino got up from the chair and left through the elevator. He was weighed
down by the odds, but as he was carried up, he looked over the city. They needed a strong
leader at this time. He went to the top of the Solarice capital building and found his
personal armored aircraft sitting there with the pilot bowing at him. Kino nodded and threw
open the door and stepped inside. They were off and away soon after, headed Southeast to
Hinata Sou...

***

Meanwhile, footsteps echoed through the dark. Dirt fell from the shaking ceiling of the
dark tunnels. They rumbled as seven bodies dashed through it, running past turns and
heading Eastward through the immense Red Mountains. They headed on, through the dry, dark
tunnels after Rantmon. They were compelled more than ever to take him on before it was too
late.

They dashed past stones and boulders, down slopes and up cliffs, through underground
springs and above outdoor passes. The Crew just dashed on, fatigue gripping at them but
none caring at all. Dust and smoke fluttered up from the ground every time their feet
struck the ground. The tunnels certainly weren't used very often. Not with the stories
surrounding it.

They dashed onward, slowly descending into the planet. Past more turns and into what was
supposed to be a large underground lake. There was much open space, and they dashed along a
rather large cliff. They saw down there in the depression was a single stone. A single
stone of incredible height. It nearly reached the ceiling, and with the Rood Inverse carved
on it, it definitely wasn't there by accident.

They saw why. Down at the foot of the stone, there was a comparatively small figure. It was
small compared to the stone, but upon estimating its distance, it was much taller than the
Crew. Indeed, the figure was huge. As the Crew dashed down the descending cliff and from
rock to rock, the stone seemed to grow to an immense height. They reached the ground,
seeing the gigantic figure, and the even more gigantic stone. They stopped at the edge of
the depression, where a lake was before it dried.

Momo slowly climbed down the rocks, carefully, for she wasn't as strong or used to action
as the others. She slipped, and a boulder rolled out of place, causing the pile of rocks to
lose their stability. There was rock slide. SSJ caught Momo as she fell, and they all
dodged to the side as the rocks rolled free and fell. The cave shook with noise. And
suddenly it stopped.

The Crew looked up at the side of the cliff, seeing it jut out far above them. Their way
back was destroyed. Everyone shot Momo a disappointed glance, but said nothing. They had
much bigger problems at hand...

...Bigger indeed, for the figure by the stone raised its head at the sudden noise. And with
the crew closer, they saw that its head had three faces and six arms. Emblazoned on the
back of each hand was a symbol for the elements. The face of anger was facing them. They
froze as the figure sped forward and came to a stop just before the Crew. It truly was
massive- they only came to its knees.

It seemed like a female, with the faces smooth and beautiful. Well, perhaps not the angry
one, for the beauty was lost within her demonic glare. Her hair glistened like that of a
god, and her attire was of expensive jewels and beads. Her delicate voice echoed through
the room, "Well, if it isn't visitors... I hardly get visitors, but I have been receiving
quite a lot now..."

Kensou stood before the others and demanded, "What the Hell are you?!"

The head twisted around to show the face of hatred on the left side. "Silence, boy. I am a
demi-god, a higher plane of existence compared to you low scum!"

The head twisted to the one on the right. This one was a compassionate, even more beautiful
face. She spoke, "Listen, well. I am an Asura. I am the last Asura- my kind has faded due
to history's circumstances. Now, as the last, I am also quite agitated, as you can imagine."

The center, stern face looked at them again. "I am the divine being employed by Rantmon to
protect the stone. No being may come into contact with it, or even come into proximity. The
lake was a barrier as well, before history dried it."

Amiko looked up at Asura. "What is the stone?"

"You will not receive an answer. Don't ask questions, for I wasn't made to answer any."

"Tch!" muttered TM. "We need to get through the mountain, so get out of our way! You
certainly have heard it, haven't you?" The ground shook. A scream echoed through the walls,
seeming to come from the ground. The world was crying. Mauzel was crying. "We need to stop
Rantmon. If you're a decent being, you'll help, too."

"I was not created to defy Rantmon. I was created to follow his orders. I was given orders
to watch the stone, and do only that. Even as the other Asuras died in the War, I still
keep this stone."

'War?' Kensou thought. "What 'war' are you talking about?! There has been no war involving
damned demi-gods!"

The demonic face of Asura faced him again. "I said I will not take questions, trash.
Especially from a worthless peon such as you, who was kept from reality."

The stern face faced the Seven. "No more talk. I have given enough information out of my
authority. Either you leave or you shall die."

Asura stood, six arms crossed before them. They looked up at her, her beauty hiding her
truth. Lots of things had been hidden from them, and the confusing news about a "war" threw
Kensou off guard. But they drew their weapons and faced the demi-god. Asura bowed her head.
The three faces spoke in unison, "Your choice is unwise. I will correct your mistake with
death."

Momo stepped back from the other six, weapons raised and aimed at Asura. She unfolded her
six arms and stood above the Crew. They needed to finish this, fast! Rantmon certainly
won't wait for a battle with an Asura!

The six leaped away as Asura clapped two of her hands together. The fire and ice ones.
Suddenly, a line of fire and with ice spiraling around it, came from each mouth. The head
turned and launched the attack at all directions. Momo ducked behind a wall in the cliff as
the attack raced past the edge of the wall.

The Crew dodged the attack and aimed their own. Kensou leapt over the elemental attack and
pulled apart his weapon to reveal the black blades. "Futaya!" he screamed as he threw the
blades at Asura.

"Useless," muttered Asura as she put the hand with the symbol of Earth emblazoned on it.
Suddenly a wall of dirt shot up from the ground, causing the cave to rumble and throw
stalactites to the ground. The two blades dug into the wall and sharply stopped. Asura then
took notice of the weapons. "Oh, a weapon of celesium. What a surprise..."

Then from all around, Asura was bombarded by meteors, arrows, and bullets. From every
portion of the area, projectiles launched at Asura. Smoke and dust filled the air and
Davis, Amiko, and Cindy landed on different parts of the lake.

The smoke cleared, and a dome of icy earth stood around Asura, arrows, bullets, and meteors
embedded into the shield. Then, a crack appeared on the dome. The sound of cracking glass
filled the area. A shard of the shield collapsed inside. A wall tore down. And there was
Asura, the hands with Ice and Earth clasped together. "How pathetic," muttered Asura as the
last of her shield crumbled to the ground.

And the two faces beside the stern one saw a figure flying at her from behind. Asura turned
and saw that TM was in the air, speeding towards her with his sword drawn. "Hm," muttered
Asura. "This one seems to be the best out of you all." She raised one of her hands: the
one the symbol for "sky". The index and middle fingers alone stood up as the others were
tucked together she muttered, "Your attacks won't accomplish anything."

She was then about to cast the attack, she suddenly felt pain. It was a slight sting. She
felt it on her arm, where SSJ was then slicing from her wrist down. He was trying to kill
her that way. She flicked him away, and with angrily smacked TM back with one of her other
hands. SSJ crashed painfully into the ground, and TM skidded away from the rest.

Asura looked down at her wrist. It began to bleed. "Someone actually hurt me," she
muttered. "Interesting... Much better than the last one who came."

SSJ shoved himself to his feet then, leer still solid and set on his face. "Who was the
last one?" he asked with a deep and demanding voice. He still wasn't in the best of moods,
apparently.

Asura looked down at SSJ, and was filled with surprise for the first time in a long while.
He was still alive?! ...No... He was different, but almost exactly the same. The glare made
him different in disposition. She just looked to the side of the cave by the rock slide
caused by the Crew. They all followed her gaze, and collectively gasped.

There was a single cross on it, and there was Dark SSJ, hands spread across the cross and
nailed on, along with his legs that were brought together. He had been crucified. SSJ felt
a lurching feeling in his stomach. There was Dark, nailed to the stone cross, without
emotion. SSJ felt disappointment for not being able to regain his pride.

But they had no more time to ponder the situation, for just then, the cave shook. More
stalactites toppled to the ground. One fell straight towards Momo. Momo screamed and was
only saved by an even more disappointed SSJ. She saw his face, still serious and angry.

They looked past Asura, where TM was kneeling on the ground, about to get to his feet. The
room rumbled, rocks tumbled, and a mumbling was heard, "The seal is broken... The seal is
broken..." Blood escaped from Asura, from her wound, and from fear. TM was just by the
stone. In her anger and surprise, she forgot where TM had been in relation to the stone.

A crack ran down the Rood Inverse carved upon the stone. It widened. More cracks appeared.
A piece of it crashed into the ground, and TM sprinted away before it all crumbled in the
middle of the lake. When TM looked back, all that was left was a single thing floating
where the stone had been. Pebbles and dust from the stone fell from it. It was a sword. It
had been encased in the stone. 'That was what Asura was guarding?' thought TM.

A voice called, seemingly from the sword, "The seal has been broken... The Key has been
brought to me."

"Key?!" Asura muttered. TM suddenly felt a searing pain on his back. He screamed and
struggled to claw at his back, but his body wouldn't move. Red smoke came from TM. "It
can't be... The boy has the Blood Sin?!"

TM, with pain tearing through his being, looked up at the sword. It was magnificently made,
definitely a legendary artifact if it had to be sealed in that giant stone. The sword
shone, even in the darkness of the dank dwelling of Asura. The hilt, the guard... They all
were made of black metals; it seemed like it was strong enough to destroy a planet. The
sword spoke again, "A boy now? Such a radical change from my last possessor..."

TM struggled to speak, but the pain became too great. He just grunted and clenched his
teeth, unable to move. He looked back and saw the Crew approach. Asura never bothered
stopping them. She already had failed her mission, anyway. Cindy looked at TM, then turned
to the sword and demanded, "What the Hell are you?!"

The voice from the sword just echoed, "He will seek me... The Key will seek my power. It is
the natural flow for the weak to seek the strong. That is the natural mindset for
humankind." A shadow fell upon it, and it disappeared. The Crew just stood there, not
knowing what to do.

They turned back to the Asura and saw her clap all six of her hands together. "I have
failed," she muttered. Needles of every element appeared in the air around her. Flames,
Earth, Darkness... Light, Ice, Air... They all appeared around the almost beautiful Asura,
lit by the light and flame needles. "A failure deserves no Nirvana..." The seven tried to
look away. Their hands instinctively covered their mouths to hide how open it was. The
needles flew at Asura. She didn't scream. The room shook, and all that was left was a lake
of blood and an open palm aim at the ceiling. The Asura had passed from the world.

They felt heavy again, as more revelations were laid upon them in the middle of their
quest. SSJ looked back at the crucifix. Dark was gone from it. He had expected as much,
since he noticed Dark's cross wasn't bloody. Crucifixion tended to be pretty bloody, after
all. Dark was still alive. Dark had come to the forefront once again.

"SSJ! Come on!" he heard Amiko yell. He turned about and saw Amiko point out another tunnel
up ahead. The others were beside her a distance ahead, weapons sheathed and relaxed. Quite
a change from the battle a few seconds earlier. He took one last look at the empty cross
and stepped towards the others.

They stepped sprinted through the tunnel all over again, as if they never faced the deity.
They blocked out everything from their mind, set only on making it to Rantmon. They didn't
hear the simultaneous shouts of millions of soldiers, ready to fight Rantmon on his island.
They didn't hear the many Clans throughout the world jumping at jobs set at Rantmon's head.
They didn't hear Hayden pat Shinobu and Kitsune before leaving with Kino Tsumuji. They
didn't hear the Hokuten leaping off the gigantic falls in the middle of the Red Mountains,
floating down with Risika's charms. They didn't hear Jallopsimon arriving at the remains of
Minas Morgul. Everything was heading towards Rantmon. The world was hurtling towards
Rantmon.

A rushing sound of water echoed through the tunnels. They slowed, and the tunnel slowly
widened. It became taller and wider, and the noise became nearly unbearable. A faint, tiny
glimmer of light was visible far off into the distance. Right in the middle of the new,
wide tunnel was another rushing river. No time for safety, their boat appeared on the river
with a red flash and a loud splash. They all stepped into the boat.

Except for SSJ, who stood there on the river bank, staring at the ground. Kensou spat at
him, "Come on! We need to get there fast!" SSJ was silent, glaring at the ground. He kicked
some pebbles away, and there he saw a ripped and torn glove. A very familiar glove...

"What are you doing?!" shouted Davis. His voice echoed through the tunnel. "We need to go,
now!"

They saw SSJ look up at them, glare larger than ever. He looked forward at where they were
going. Another tunnel could be seen up ahead, making its way left, away from the river. SSJ
muttered, "He's still here... That bastard is still here..."

"What the Hell are you talking about?!" Amiko yelled as she shoved Kensou out of the way.
"Shut up and get in here!"

SSJ gave her the most hateful watch she ever saw him give. Especially to someone as
important to him as her. He said, "Dark is still alive. He's still here. I have to find
him."

"There's no time for that!" Amiko yelled. "Come on! Even if Dark's here, we need to go!"

SSJ refused to listen. He stepped forward, to the fork in the tunnel. "I don't care... I
don't care anymore. Rantmon, the Enders, Frank, Mauzel, this world... I don't care about
any of it. All I care of is that Dark is still breathing, and I need to fix that problem."
He stepped forward, leaving the others just frozen. SSJ of all people... He was bailing on
them. He was leaving...

"You can't do this!" Cindy yelled. "We have to stick together, right?! We all need to
return home! You can't leave on your own!" SSJ said nothing as he kicked more pebbles out
of his path. He stepped to the fork.

TM then took his turn to try talking sense into SSJ, "GET BACK HERE, BASTARD!" The
shuffling sound from SSJ stopped. SSJ turned to see TM out of the corner of his eye. "You
can't make this decision on your own! What about what I said in Kyoto?! Did you forget
that?! Quit being an angsty, whining bitch and get back here, damn it!"

SSJ paused. They waited for a long time for him to say anything. SSJ turned back to TM, and
they breathed a sigh of relief. That was, until SSJ muttered, "You know nothing." He turned
around and went to step away.

The boat suddenly rocked. It bounced in the water as Momo leapt out and dashed towards SSJ.
"SSJ!" she yelled. "Please... Please, be rational about this."

"I am perfectly rational. I can't rest until Dark is dead. Dark is here. Hence, I will stay
here and search for Dark. What is irrational about that?"

"That's it...? Your decision can't be changed?" Tears dropped to the ground. Momo began to
cry. SSJ didn't even turn to look at her, even though he suddenly felt terrible. What a
perfect way to add to his mood. He went on. She suddenly grabbed his arm and pulled him
back. She added, "Then... I'll go with you!" SSJ glanced at her, and his gaze fell to the
river.

The water flowed on, uncaring about their position. It just continued to erode the earth it
passed... It just did it without a care in the world... He then turned to the tunnel and
said, "Fine." He stepped away from the boat still. The other five just stared at SSJ.
Kensou shoved off with the oar. They sped forward, eventually reaching SSJ before Kensou
shoved them back to shore.

"This is it, then?" Amiko said, feeling a pang in her heart. SSJ nodded.

"You're set on doing this?" Davis asked. SSJ shot a glare at him, and Davis looked away. He
knew what SSJ meant.

"You bastard!" TM screamed. "I thought I had some shard of respect in you. Now you're going
off to die in God-knows-where for your own selfish reasons! Just go then, asshole!" TM
glared at SSJ, feeling disappointed and ashamed with SSJ. SSJ said nothing back.

He stepped forward. Momo followed. As they continued, Cindy yelled, "We'll meet again...
Right?" SSJ didn't answer. "RIGHT?!" Still, no answer. Kensou unceremoniously shoved off,
and the boat was carried away, much lighter and without two burdens. It sped forward,
faster than ever.

Light fell on them soon after. They had left the Red Mountains. Amiko looked back to the
mountain, feeling her heart heavier than it had ever been. 'SSJ... You could not bear to
feel the pain again, do you? The pain of not being able to protect... I don't blame you,
but please... Don't die out there...' She was the only one who understood SSJ as they moved
further from SSJ. The Red Mountains grew smaller as they sped forward, the river violently
bearing them onward.

The Crew had split. The world knew not that its hopes had failed. The rock of the Five had
split as SSJ made his way back into the mountain path. Rantmon looked from his throne in
his palace, at the circle of vision cast upon the ground. He smiled as the cards were
moving into his hands. Hope had faded from the planet. Rantmon won before he even began his
first battle.
