Chapter One: First Day

A/n First off I wanna say that this is my first DBZ fanfic, so if I get anything wrong please let me know so I can fix it.

Ok now as for everyone's ages, I rearranged them to fit my needs in this fic. Trunks and Zoë are 17 and are in their 3rd year of high school. Pan is 15 and in her 1st year of high school. Bra and Nikki are 14 and in their last year of Jr. High.

D/c I don't own DBZ. However I do own Zoë, Nikki, Adam, Mrs. Rivera, and anyone else you don't recognize.

Chapter One: First Day

Ms. Papantoniou stood in the front of the room giving her lecture about verbs and sentence structure, when the door was opened by a girl no one had seen before.

She had long black hair with blue streaks and dark brown eyes. She wore a black tank top with a pleated black skirt, black army boots, and an old army jacket. Her hair was let loose except for two thin braids on each side of her head.

She walked into the room and handed the teacher a slip of paper. Not fazed at all by the stares she was receiving from her classmates.

"Class we have a new student. Her name is Zoë Rivera, and she has just moved here from Mexico."

Zoë smiled and greeted her classmates. "Hi."

The class went from staring at Zoë to glaring at her. Since they didn't like the way she was dressed, they instantly disliked her. Even Ms. Papantoniou didn't like the girl.

They seemed angry when she didn't react. She didn't seem to care at all that she had just walked into the room and already she had made a classroom full of enemies.

"Well I can see that I'm welcome here." She mumbled under her breath. "Ms. Papantoniou is it? Where should I sit?"

Ms. Papantoniou glared at Zoë for a moment longer before answering her.

"You can take the seat next to Melody."

The said girl didn't so much as breath differently to help Zoë find her seat, so Zoë walked around the room until she found the only empty space.

When she sat down she received a glare from Melody.

"Don't think that since your sitting here we're gonna be friends or anything Freak."

Zoë laughed, ignoring the insult. "Now Melody where ever did you get the idea that I wanted anything to do with you?"

Melody sniffed and turned to face the front of the room. She obviously was not used to people brushing her off like that.

When the bell rang Zoë got the books she needed from her locker and took her time getting to her next class. She wasn't in a hurry, plus she wanted to get a look at the rest of her peers.

As she passed by the various cliques and clubs she studied each person, and each person either glared or looked at her with disgust. Zoë knew she wasn't welcome here, but she really didn't care. She didn't have any friends at her old school either, so being an outcast was nothing new.

As she neared the classroom she saw something kinda funny. In the center of a mob of teenage girls she saw a boy with purple hair who looked like he didn't want to be there at all. Laughing to herself, Zoë decided to help him out.

She her way made to him, pushing her way past what she guessed to be over half of the school's female population. When she was standing next to him she tapped him on the shoulder.

"Just what do you think you're doing? I thought you were gonna walk me to class?" When he looked at her confused she gave him a look that clearly said 'Follow my lead.' He understood and mouthed a thank you.

"Oh yeah, I guess I forgot."

"I can see that. Well come on, you've still got time." She grabbed his arm and dragged him out of the crowd.

/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~/

"Thanks."

"Don't mention it, but don't expect me to help you out everyday. Next time you'll have to get out on your own." Zoë said smiling.

"Are you new here? I don't think I remember seeing you around before." He asked realizing she was very pretty.

"I'm Zoë, I just moved here. It's my first day in this school."

"I'm Trunks. It's nice to meet you Zoë."

Zoë was surprised that he was being so nice to her. No one had been nice to her so far, not even her teacher or the people at the office. She wanted to talk to him more, but as luck would have it the bell rang.

"Oh no, we're late for class. I'm gonna be in so much trouble." She grabbed her books and started running down the hall.

"Bye Trunks!"

/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~/

When the bell rang to say it was lunchtime Zoë was ecstatic. She didn't think she'd be able to stand another classroom full of Zoë haters until she got something to eat.

Gradually she made her way to the cafeteria. She wasn't a hundred percent sure where it was, so she was surprised when she found on her first try. She got in line and grabbed the day's hot lunch.

"Now then, where should I sit?" She looked around the cafeteria and could tell she wasn't welcome at those tables. Finally she saw a table with only one girl sitting at it. She figured that if she sat at the opposite end of the table the girl wouldn't mind.

"Excuse me, can I sit here?"

The girl looked up and smiled. "Of course, you can sit right here." She pointed to the space in front of her.

"That's great thanks."

Zoë put down her tray and sat in front of the girl. She had short black hair and black eyes. She was wearing blue jeans, a red shirt, and an orange bandana on her head.

"Hi, I'm Pan."

"Zoë."

Pan just sat there for a few minutes studying the girl in front of her. A little bit uncomfortable Zoë decided to start eating.

"Um Pan, why are you sitting here all alone? It's the middle of the year, so I would assume you'd have some friends to sit with."

Pan smiled sadly. "Well I do have some friends, but my best friend is still in her last year of Jr. High, and my other friend is in your grade and one of the most popular guys in school. Therefore, I sit alone."

"Well why don't you have any friends in you grade?"

"Well most people are scared of me. I'm very strong and good at martial arts, so most people are scared that I'll hurt them."

"Oh… Well I'm not scared of you. So now you can say that you've got another friend."

"That's awesome! Thanks Zoë."

/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~/

After lunch Zoë went to her next class, and found out that Pan was in it.

"How'd you get to be in a 11th grade class?"

"Well my grandma makes me study all the time, so when I took the placement test I passed out of 9th grade math."

"Oh, well that's cool." They walked into the classroom together.

/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~/

By the middle of class Zoë found herself thinking of Trunks. She hoped that she'd get another chance to talk to him. Other than Pan, he was the only one who had been nice to her the entire day. But she knew she probably wouldn't get to talk to him again. From what she had seen and heard Trunks was probably the most popular guy in school. There was no way he would like her.

/Great Zoë, fall for the most popular guy in school. That's real smart./ She looked up to see Pan looking at her concerned.

"What wrong?"

"Nothing, I was just thinking about stuff."

"Ok, if you wanna talk about it later just let me know."

/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~/

Soon enough school was over for the day.

"I'll see you tomorrow Pan."

"Ok, bye Zoë." The two walked their separate ways.

"Hey sweet thang. You wanna have some fun?" Zoë turned around to see a group of guys starting to surround her. She attempted to get out of the circle they had formed, but without success.

"Guys come one just let me go."

"Now where would be the fun in that? You're not going anywhere until we get what we want." He started walking towards her.

"Ok, you asked for it." Zoë did a couple moves she had learned in from her grandfather, and in a few seconds he was on the ground unconscious.

"Anyone else?"

Another boy walked up to her, and in a few seconds was lying unconscious next to his friend.

The rest of the group wasn't giving up so easily.

"You may have beaten up Jay and Max, but you can't get us all at once."

The group started walking towards her. Suddenly Zoë was scared. She knew that he was right. There was no way she could beat up all those guys before they got her.

/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~/

Trunks was flying home, when he looked down and saw Zoë beat up some guy. Thinking she might be in trouble, he landed and made his way over to where she was just as another guy approached her.

"You may have beaten up Jay and Max, but you can't get us all at once."

"Maybe not, but I can."

The group turned around to see Trunks Briefs standing there, not looking too pleased. Everyone knew better than to get into a fight with Trunks. The last guy he fought with ended up in a full body cast.

"Uh Trunks…hehehe" He laughed nervously. "We were j-just playin' around. We weren't really gonna do nothin'. "

Trunks' gaze didn't soften. "Get out of here now." He could feel his ki rising. "I don't want to see you punks anywhere near her again. Am I being perfectly clear?"

They just nodded their heads and ran away as fast as they could.

Finally Trunks turned to face Zoë. "Are you ok?"

"Yeah, thanks to you."

She was silently wondering why this was happening to her. What did she ever do to deserve all the things that had happened that day? She wasn't a bad person.

"Um… Can I walk you home? I don't think those guys'll be bothering you anytime soon, but I'd feel better if I knew you were safe."

"Why do you care?" She instantly regretted saying that out loud.

"What do you mean?"

She sighed. "Well it's just that no one's been nice to me since I got here this morning. Other than a girl I met at lunch, you're the only person who isn't treating me like scum."

"Why should I hate you if I don't even know you. I don't have any against you Zoë, and I'll be your friend."

Zoë smiled. "Really? You'll be my friend?"

Trunks blushed. "Of course, now let's get you home."

They started walking towards Zoë house, talking about whatever popped into their heads, and enjoying each other's company.

"Uh Trunks?" Zoë stopped walking and looked from the ground, to Trunks.

"What?"

"How are you doing that?"

"Doing what?" Trunks asked oblivious as to what she was talking about.

"You're flying."

"What?" Trunks looked down and saw that indeed he was flying. He was in such a good mood, that he hadn't noticed when he started to fly. "Um…" What was he going to tell Zoë? He couldn't let her tell anyone, plus he didn't want her to think he was a freak.

Zoë just looked at him, waiting for an answer. When he didn't say anything she looked from the ground to him again.

"Can you tech me to fly? It looks like fun. I won't tell anyone, I promise."

Trunks was relieved that she was handling this so well. Most girls would probably have fainted or ran off hysterical by now.

"Well can you please?"

He couldn't see how it could hurt. Gohan had taught Videl how to fly, and no harm was done because of it.

"Sure, how about we start tomorrow morning at 11am?"

Zoë had almost forgotten that tomorrow was the weekend. "Sounds great."

"Ok, then we can meet at my place."

"Where do you live?"

Trunks had forgotten that she was new to the area and didn't know her way around yet.

"You know the Capsule Corp. building?"

"Yeah."

"I live there. My family own Capsule Corp."

"Really? That's so cool! Well I'll see you tomorrow then." She stopped walking. "This is my street. Bye Trunks. Thanks for everything."

Trunks waved a goodbye, then found a tree to hide behind while he took off, and flew home.

/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~/

"I'm home!" Zoë called out as she entered the house.

"Zoë, come here."

Zoë walked into the room she shared with her sister to find her sitting on the futon watching a movie on TV

"What do you want Nikki?" she asked, sitting down next to her.

"Don't my nails look pretty?" She put her hand right in front of Zoë's face.

"Is that all you wanted to say?"

Nikki looked at her sister. "No silly, I wanted to ask you about your first day of school."

"It pretty much sucked. Everyone hated me, even the teachers, which was weird. I did make two friends though. So I guess it wasn't too bad after all. What about you?"

"It was okay I guess. Everyone was really nice, and I made a lot of new friends, but the classes were soooooo boring." She said overdramatically, putting a hand to her forehead.

"Wish I had your problem."

Nikki stood up, and took a look at Zoë. "Well maybe if you didn't wear black all the time people would like you better."

Zoë stood up and walked to her bed. "I'm not gonna dress differently just to impress those snobs. If they decide to hate me just because of what I wear, then they can go screw themselves. Esos idiotas no saben lo que se estan perdiendo."1

"I know huh!"

Just then the door burst open and their little brother ran in.

"Zoë look at this. Don't you think this Japanese Venomyotismon card is sooo cool?"

"Yeah, it's really cool Adam. I told you that the first five times you showed it to me. Now please get out. I have to do some homework or something."

"Ok, bye." He ran out of the room, most likely to show the card to their mother.

/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~/

Later on that night Zoë went downstairs to the kitchen to get some dinner. Her mom was sitting at the table reading the newspaper.

"Oh hey mom." Zoë stopped to give her mom a kiss on the cheek before resuming her quest for food.

"Hola miha.2 How was your day?"

Zoë warmed up some KFC leftovers, then sat down with her mother.

"It was ok. Same as usual, it was kinda boring. I did make a friend, and we're getting together tomorrow morning."

Mrs. Rivera flipped the page, and took a sip of her coffee. "That's nice."

After she finished her diner, Zoë decided to start getting ready for bed.

"Well I'm going to bed now. Buenas noches mama."3

"Buenas noches miha."

/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~/

1) This translates to 'Those idiots don't know what they're missing.'

2) Miha is an affectionate term for daughter.

3) This translates to 'Goodnight mom.'

a/n Well… what did you think? Did this make any sense? Should I keep going? I'm not really happy with the way this chapter came out. If any of you have any suggestions as to how I can fix it please let me know. If someone helps me then I'll revise it. Or if you think it's great the way it is let me know too. I don't know when I'll have the next chapter up, cuz I'm working on three other fics right now and school starts on Wednesday. So I'll see when I get a chance to write again.
