Epilogue

How did Raditz Achieve Super Saiyan?

 

This question was posed by one of my readers on ff.net, so I attempt to answer it in this epilogue to this story. I wasn't sure where ELSE to put it, so I put it in this ficlet. I don't own Raditz, Goku or Dragon Ball Z, I'm just borrowing them for this fanfic. I own the fancharacters Stellari, Fermi and Bohr. I don't get paid for this.

Cain and Abel indeed, Raditz wondered. However, that was far from truth in this case. Raditz gritted his teeth, glaring at his hand. The blasted thing betrayed him when he needed it the most. How was it he could generate any manner of ki ball but not the precious plastic that could stop the android's power attacks, or short circuit their neutrino power relays?

 

"Grrr," he mumbled, then drew in harsh breaths to steady himself. Today he was going to do it, come what may.

 

Time and again he had resented the fact his brother was orders of magnitude more powerful t hen he. What he failed to notice till recently was the extents to which Goku had gone to push Raditz through the vast gap in their powers. What had seemed powerful, as 1,200 so long were a wimpy miniscule ki now? So Goku had taken steps to give Raditz whatever boost he could. Goku and the Son family alone however only knew one of them. With the exception of Piccolo.

 

Raditz flopped down in ten G's, grabbing a towel and throwing it around his neck. He opened up a bottle of Hercule sport drink, and focussed on how much he owed his brother for his ascension to Super Saiyan. One incident made it possible, in his mind aside of the Kao Ken and other training. Unlocking the hidden potential lying dormant in him.

 

Months ago when Stellari and he had gone to stay with the Sons, Son Goku had let him in on a little secret. One of the times he had gone out fishing with his brother they had stumbled upon a tall structure that was called Korin's tower. Son Goku had told him the tale of fighting King Piccolo, as he often did to entertain his sons during bedtime. Both of them traded tales of past exploits often, while sitting at the edge of a pond fishing.

 

The months that passed with training during Stellari's maternity leave had given Goku the chance to train Raditz in ways nobody had expected. While Piccolo kept with Gohan, the one on one lesson had pushed Raditz in ways he couldn't fathom. One blasted day Raditz was fed up and decided to scale the rather imposing Korin's tower just to prove he could do it. It was his notion that if he duplicated Goku's training he could achieve the same heights. He had told nobody what he had done, standing there looking at a cup of pure poison.

 

"Ultra divine water," Goku said quietly, standing next to his trembling brother. "If you want to unlock the true power of your hidden self without transforming. You have to drink it and survive. It's either that or more training."

 

"I've already died," Raditz grunted. "So I don't fear death again."

 

Horrible pain splinted from his guts, and Raditz had promptly passed out on the floor of Korin's tower howling in pain. Son Goku stood over him, grasping his brother's hand and urging him to stay with him. If Prince Vegeta knew what his soldier had done he'd be furious. Unfortunately the same thing slammed into Stellari as Raditz felt the power.

 

"No, oh GOD!" Stellari screamed, miles away at Son Goku's house. Chichi gasped to see her sister in law writhing in what seemed agony. Searing pain shot through every muscle of her being and she rolled back and forth with the feeling she was sinking into darkness.

 

"Mommy!" Fermi gasped.

 

"What's going on?" Bohr gasped.

 

"Aunt Stellari!" Gohan gasped, leaning over her as she shivered in pain.

 

"Call a doctor! Gohan I'm going to get the doctor. Stay with her! You two come with me!" Chichi shouted to the twins.

 

"No, mommy!" they cried. But Chichi saw their faces wracked with sympathetic pain. Her logical mind reasoned they should be separated from their mother. Piccolo grunted with anger to feel the sudden surging of ki at Korin's tower.

 

"Goku, you FOOL," Piccolo snarled. He burst into the Son house, seeing the woman curled up on the floor as Gohan held her hand and sponged her brow.

 

Fermi and Bohr also screamed in pain and fear. Piccolo rushed over and sharply yelled at them. "Snap out of it! You two come with me!"

 

"Mr. Piccolo… what can we do?" Gohan asked.

 

"Goku's taken Raditz to Korin's tower. He must be doing some testing to boost his brother's power level. But his mate's affected! You stay with her! They're telepathically connected!" Piccolo snorted. "I'm getting the Saiyan babies out of here too!"

 

"No… take me out of here…" Stellari shuddered before convulsing again. Gohan grabbed her in his arms and rocketed off without a second thought. Chichi and the others yelled his name, but he somehow knew what he had to do.

 

"It looks just like when my Daddy spoke about," Gohan thought. "Only Dende can help her!"

 

It was Gohan who stayed with her as she suffered for the next six hours. He took her as far as the native village at the base of Korin's tower but decided it was far too dangerous to move her. Fortunately Bora's villagers provided a quiet place he could tend to her as she lay there. Finally as she breathed and blinked up into Gohan's face she realized she was still alive.

 

"You're okay! I was so worried!" Gohan said, hugging her tightly.

 

"Where am I… the kids…"

 

"Staying with Mr. Piccolo and Mommy. Piccolo thought you were having a psychic attack and figured the further you were away from them the less they'd feel it. Your kids must have… I don't know but he thinks something happened to Uncle Raditz and you felt it," said Gohan.

 

"Why would bringing me here help?" she asked.

 

"To keep you from the babies, and close to where Uncle Raditz was. Maybe by being close you could help him through whatever test Korin was putting him through. I feel my Daddy's ki there too, but I feel Uncle Raditz ki has just gotten ten times greater!" Gohan gasped.

 

"I feel so… so…" Stellari murmured, sitting up and blinking at her nephew.

 

"Maybe you should drink some water," said Gohan, passing her a clay cup. She swallowed it, glad to clear her parched throat. Gohan's little hand smoothed her sweat away, and she shook with relief.

 

"Better?" he asked.

 

"Yes," she nodded. Gohan's cool thinking had definitely contributed to her recovery. Yet she wondered what trial Raditz had undergone.

 

Suddenly the snatching crackle of IT materialized two static figures. Goku stood before them with Raditz hand on his shoulder. Both blinked in shock to see Gohan leaning over Stellari on the bearskin rugs in Bora's tent.

 

"Oh no… precious one what are you doing here?" Raditz blinked, rushing over to her.

 

"She was in pain. Daddy, Uncle Raditz what did you do! Piccolo said it was a telepathic feedback… like what happens when some Namekains feel pain of their relatives. How did it…" Gohan asked, rushing up to Goku.

 

"Oh man, I blew it bigtime. I didn't realize SHE'D feel the pain to of Raditz drinking Ultra Divine water…"

 

"Ultra divine WATER! Daddy, what were you thinking!" Gohan gasped.

 

"I wanted Raditz to get stronger so he could have a shot at going super Saiyan. I figured if he drank Ultra Divine water like I did many years ago he'd unlock his hidden potential. And since you and Krillen had the same sort of thing done on Namek…" said Goku.

 

"Did you KNOW this would happen you fool?" Raditz snapped at Goku.

 

"No," Goku confessed, hanging his head. "I forgot… I thought you could turn the bond off when you wanted to."

 

"When a mate's life is threatened, the other feels it," said Raditz. "Both of us have worked hard to forge the bond in the true Saiyan style. But it is my fault for not turning my pain off…"

 

"Raditz, I feel… you feel so different. As if you have very little anger," Stellari said quietly.

 

"It DID work!" Goku whooped. "How do you feel?"

 

"Pissed, but strangely as if I could do anything. As if anything difficult is now suddenly child's play. Sensing Ki, gathering energy," Raditz blinked, dark eyes showing a similar gleam as Goku's.

 

"Maybe now we can try Super Saiyan," said Goku quietly.
