Prologue

There was a surge in Squall's ice blue eyes as he remembered,
“Do you know who you are now Squall?” Rikku asked, Squall stood staring at the wall,
He was in Hollow Bastion, with all his friends. Donald and Goofy had recently came back for a visit bringing with them two young women, Rikku and Yuna. Rikku was currently staring right into Squall's eyes.
“Please say you remember Squall, living with you like this has been a real pain in the ass” Yuffie said,
“My name… my name… my name is LEON!” Squall roared though Hollow Bastion, he stormed out of the room. Squall leaned against the wall in the dark hall, “Leon” Yuffie said running out beside him,
“Why Yuffie, why?” Squall said, in a stiff way that was still Leon,
“Where did they go, Rinoa…” Squall walked into the middle of the hallway,
“Everything is coming back to me, the true… I swear to you Yuffie I'll find them every last one.” Squall ran down the hall tears running down his face he ran faster that he had ever ran before.
“Leon wait!” Yuffie yelled taking off after him but she knew that at her current speed she was no match for Squall's full out sprint. So using all the strength she could muster, she jumped up, bounded of a wall and launched herself at Leon.
“You're not leaving without me!” she said pinning him to the ground, but then she noticed something that made her face soften; his tears.
`Squall's crying, Squall never cries' Yuffie got off of Squall and let him get up. Squall, not saying a word to Yuffie's stunt, got up and said
“Stay here Yuffie” and then continued to walk toward the launch room. Yuffie followed, curiosity was pulling her apart like a lion eats his meat. Just what was on Squall's mind?

Chapter one: A quest already in vain

Already in Z-space, an uncomfortable silence still washed over Squall's tiny ship, built for no more than two the ship would serve it's purpose as a refuge for a lost mind that was once Squall's.
`Do I wish to forget or is there more to the story than what I already know?' Squall thought. *Thud* out of the back of the ship which was mostly storage fell a young ninja.
“Ow” she moaned rubbing her behind where it had made contact with the floor,
“What are you doing here?” Squall said with no tone at all, Yuffie stood up and placed her hands on her hips,
“Listen Squall, you've got some talking to do,”
“Leon…”
“Whatever! What's the big idea?”
“I've got a feeling…”
“Uh huh, you and the rest of society”
“Rikku said it, that girl, that place”
“Squall you've been out of it way to long”
“Leon”
“Squall”
“Leon”
“Squall”
“Shut up and take a seat alright?” Squall yelled and Yuffie did as she was instructed.
“So were are we going?”
“I don't know”
“Well it's not like we've got much of a choice anymore, look” Yuffie said pointing out the window at the disappearing worlds, Squall didn't say anything he just leaned back, closed his eyes, and crossed his arms across his chest.
“What? You mean that's it we're just giving up?!” Yuffie yelled,
“DO WE HAVE A CHOICE?!” Leon yelled back. Yuffie shut up after that, if there was one thing about Squall she didn't like, it was his lion side.

Cloud walked through the water of a familiar lagoon, but he couldn't put a finger on his location, he looked around trying to figure out where he currently found himself. He took another step and the water around him turned to blood. Then there was a voice,
“Cloud?” it echoed through the empty area, Cloud pivoted in the spot and looked around,
“Who's there?” he yelled,
“You killed me Cloud” the voice said, Cloud pivoted on the spot and searched the area, there was a single bubble in the water before him, all of a sudden several bubbles issued toward the surface and the water seemed to give way and create a hole and light poured out. Cloud watched in horror as a woman rose from the water. Her back faced toward Cloud, her pink clothes were tattered with over exposure to water, her hair was beginning to bleach white, and her skin had little no colour, and when she turned around she glared at Cloud through cruel lifeless eyes,
“Aeris?!” Cloud called in pure surprise,
“You killed me Cloud” Aeris yelled,
“No!” Cloud argued,
“You let me go! I sank away!”
“No, no!”
“Why did you let me sink Cloud?!”
“Aeris!”
“Why Cloud?”
“Aeris please”
“Or are you weak Cloud?” Aeris said beginning to wade through the water toward Cloud.
“You can't protect her”
“Stay away from me” Cloud said, as Aeris raised her cold hands and reached for Cloud's neck.
“You better take better care of her Cloud”
“Please no!” Cloud screamed as her hands forced him under the water.
“Aeris!” Cloud screamed sitting up. He was in his Gummi ship and had it currently on autopilot. Wiped the cold sweat of his forehead. He walked into the back of the ship to where he had placed Aerith's sleeping body.
“Who are you?” he asked her peaceful form.

Rikku was helping Yuna unpack into her former room when she noticed she just staring out the window,
“What's the matter?” Rikku asked,
“It's… this place, it's not even fully the same, but it feels so familiar, and yet… it's as though I'm missing something.” Yuna said,
“I must sound crazy,” she said shaking her head and opening her old dresser, she stopped, and ran her hands across a blue silky fabric with flowers stitched into it. As soon as Yuna's hand came in contact the material her brain sprang to life as if absorbing memories.

~Flashback~

Yuna was standing on a ship, and air ship, and a lot of people were around there, Rikku was among them,
“Wait” a man with an accent said,
“We will see you again, wont we?” Rikku asked another boy who was walking away, he didn't answer. Yuna's eyes watered and she ran toward the departing person,
“Yuna!” A voice behind her called, she didn't turn to see. The boy she was running at turned around and opened his arms; Yuna did to. She jumped ready to be in his arms even if it was the last time. Only she went right through him and landed on the deck and began to cry. Yuna heard the boy crying to, and a pyrefly flew up out of the ship. Yuna stood up; she looked over the side of the ship and stared at the clouds.
“I love you,” she told him without looking at him, she heard him turn, and there was a silence, Yuna stared over the clouds. She didn't even notice the boy behind her until he wrapped his arms around her neck and across her chest. It's was like being held by a cloud, by wind, it held you, you couldn't hold it if you tried, but he was there, and she felt him. Yuna closed her eyes and tried to block the world out as he held for that moment. When Yuna opened her eyes they began to tear. As the boy walked right through her and continued to walk forward. Yuna watched, in the background Rikku and the others were waving, Yuna couldn't hear them. Tidus then took a running jump off the end of the ship, and then disappeared into the clouds.

~End Flashback~

“Rikku?” Yuna asked,
“Who is Tidus?”

Zell and Jessica walked up the street hand in hand. The sun was setting over the roofs of Twilight town; and once again Zell was gazing at the stars, pondering his existence.
“I know it sounds weird, but sometimes I feel like I really don't belong here, like I belong someplace else,” Zell said. Both Jess and he stopped.
“It's like I belong out there,” Zell said motioning to the stars on the horizon.
“Maybe that's my world to the right or is it that one to the left!?” Zell stated enthusiastically pointing to stars causing Jess to giggle.
“Jess… I may not know where, or how far, but someday I'll find that place where I belong”
“Don't you think you belong here… with me?” Jessica asked moving closer to Zell and hugging his arm, he returned the embrace.
“I love you Zell”
“I love you too Jess”
“Please don't leave me,” Jess whispered into his coat.
“I probably wont go anywhere,” Zell said, he looked out at the stars again and went *psssh* he broke their embrace and walked forward with his hands in his pockets.
“I know I must sound crazy.” Jess watched Zell walk up the street toward the night, tears welled in her eyes as she pondered telling him the truth.

Zell eventually stopped walking again darkness was closing around him as he looked up at the beautiful star freckled sky, and he began to sing.
“I have often dreamed
of a far off place
where a heroes welcome
would be waiting for me
where the crowds will cheer when they see my face
and a voice keeps sayin'
this is where I'm meant to be”
Zell walked up to his favorite spot, the clock tower, and sat on the edge and sang,
“I will find my way
I can go the distance
I'll be there some day
if I can be strong.
I know every mile
will be worth my while
I would go most anywhere
to feel like I belong”
Zell walked home, to find his mother, father and Jessica at the doorway.
“Zell there's something we all want to tell you” Jessica said. Later Zell held photos of himself as a young boy; he used to have a tattoo on the side of his face.
“What happened to it?” he asked,
“It disappeared” his mom told him,
“We couldn't explain it,” his dad said.
“So if you found me where do I belong?”
“This is all we found that could be a clue” Zell's mom said handing him a badge, it had sewn picture of a crest that dawned light blue swirls, under it was the word “SeeD” in gold stitching and was attached to a sewn picture of a Scarlet Banner. Out of both sides of the crest white-feathered wings were sewn and they rose above the crest and ran parallel up to the top of the badge.
“It's the symbol of a SeeD,” she then told him.
“SeeD?” he asked,
“Soldiers that once trained on Hollow Bastion”
“This is it! Don't you see? They must have the answer! I'll go rent a Gummi ship and…” Zell said jumping up and smiling, and then he heard Jessica crying.
“Jess?” he asked, getting closer.
“You're leaving me?” she asked through her tears,
“I know this is hard,” Zell said hugging her,
“I don't want you to go”
“Will you come with me?” Zell asked, Jessica thought about it but said,
“I can't… I'll wait for you though,” she said,
“I return,” Zell said,
“I promise.”

The next day Zell had packed a bag and was outside and ready to go looking for his real home. He looked back at his mother and father and his girlfriend Jess and waved. They all waved back and he walked up toward the sun up the golden paved road. He sang
“I am on my way
I can go the distance
I don't care how far
Somehow I'll be strong
I know every mile
Will be worth my while
I will go most anywhere
To find where I belong”
