Golden Light

AN: This story is supposed to be a friend-bonding moment. However, if you enjoy reading yaoi/shounen ai you could also look at this in a romantic way. You can chose ;)
Disclaimer: if I owned FMA, Hughes would still be alive and Winry would have been killed instead.

The light was perfect. If he would sit just a bit different behind his desk, the
light would perfectly hit the paper he was drawing on. The color was perfect too.
He didn't need anything besides his plain and aimple pencil to draw. The golden
light made it the color it was in reality as well. Roy sighed as he finished the
drawing and smiled. Yup, he was glad with the result. The only thing that was not
realistic about the drawing was that the person on it would never have that
expression, at least not in front of Roy. He smirked as he thought of the child
prodigy being calm and collected. “Wouldn't that be a relief” he mused softly to
himself.
“Would what be a relief, Colonel Bastard?”
Roy jumped. “Fullmetal, being small isn't an excuse as to not knock before
entering!”
“Heh, did I startle you- wait, WHO ARE YOU CALLING SO SMALL THAT
WHEN HE KNOCKED HE WOULDN'T BE HEARD CAUSE HE DIDN'T MAKE ANY
SOUND!” Ed screamed. On the other side of the door Havoc muttered: “wow, a
new record; 7 seconds!”
“Fullmetal, it would be impossible for you to not make a sound. Guess it
compensates for your height.” Roy grinned. Ed grumbled something that sounded
suspiciously like `...smug bastard' which only caused Roy's grin to widen. Then Ed
noticed something.
“Hey what's that?” he asked.
“What?” Roy looked down at his desk. Shit.
His drawing. Quickly he put some of the papers he was supposed to fill in on it.
Ed raised an eyebrow in confusion.
“I never knew you could draw” he said. Roy blushed a little, mind spinning to find
a way out of this.
“I can't”
“...Right. Then what is that drawing you're hiding?”
“n-nothing” Damn. Why did he have to stutter now? Roy could see from Ed's face
that he was thinking the same thing. It clicked though, when he saw Roy's face
redden a bit more and not meeting his eyes.
“I like to draw myself, my drawings suck though. Can I have a look?” Ed asked
calmy in an attempt to ease the Colonel's nervousness. I can't believe it. He's shy
for once!
Roy had indeed calmed a bit, but was still uncomfortable.
“Preferably not” he answered as he shifted a bit in his chair.
“Aw c'mon. You can't be as bad as I am” Ed said, trying not to think about how
out of character he was acting. Normally he would have already left the office,
slamming the door shut so hard it would require alchemy to be repaired. Then
again, Roy was acting weird too; normally he'd be smirking like the smug bastard
that he is. Wait... Did he just call him Roy in his mind? Things really were off
today. As he focused on reality again he noticed Roy looking thoughtfull. Maybe
he was considering- nah, that wouldn't be like him!
“...Allright” Oh~ Well things were weird anyway. Ed thought as Roy handed the
sketchpad over to him.
He gasped. It was like looking in a mirror, only the mirror was in black and white
and was smiling instead of looking stunned. Wow. This is...
“This is what?” Roy asked nervously.
“Oh I said that out loud?” Ed said. Roy nodded, now fidgeting with his fingers
out of nervousness.
“Well?”
“It's... amazing! How did you do this? I mean, wow. You're really good!” Ed looked
up smiling like in the drawing. Roy was avoiding eye-contact once again, staring at
his desk as if the papers on it were much more interesting than half an hour ago.
“Oi, Colonel... You okay?” Ed asked, slightly worried. He had been acting really
strange all day!
“Y-yeah I'm fine” Great! Why can't I stop stuttering? Roy thought helplessly.
“It's just... drawing is personal to me. That's why I never show anyone my
drawings, I... well... I don't know how to describe it”
Ed smiled. “You don't have to. I understand”
Roy looked up and noticed Ed looked exactly like his drawing, which was strange
since the drawing was made to resemblence Ed, not the other way around. Maybe
because he saw Ed truly smiling on paper before seeing it in real life. Oh hell,
now I'm getting philosophical. Today is now officially way past weird. Roy
thought, not knowing Ed thought the same thing about this day. Looking at Ed
smiling like his drawing, or whatever other way you could describe it, he felt like
they had come to an understanding someone. Like they knew each other better.
Maybe it's just that I never knew this side of him. I think I like it better than my drawing. Roy mused as the sun that had first shone on his drawing, now shone
on the real Ed, showing a new side of him. Yup, definetly better in golden light.
