Chronicles Of The
Beast Gods 3

Miaka was
full of anger and worry. True, the
battle had not gone well for their side, but she was not one to abandon her
friends when the situation looked bad. She,
Yui, and Chichiri walked higher and higher up the mountain, and no one had said
anything since they reappeared. Miaka
couldn't stand it.

"I can't
believe we just left them there!" She blurted out. "What if Tamahome and the others were captured or injured or
killed!"

Yui walked
besides her friend. "Don't worry. The others are probably fine. Wouldn't we feel it if anything were to
happen?"

"Yui's
right, ya know." Chichiri said. "Right now we gotta focus on finding the
oracles first."

Miaka knew
what they said was true, but it upset her that she had allowed herself to be
separated from her soul mate. Sighing,
she decided it would be best to continue the current quest of finding the
Suzaku Oracle of Wind. Then she could
focus her attention on finding her precious Tamahome.

Tamahome
and Suboshi walked briskly ahead of the group, completely ignoring the huffing
and puffing behind them.

Tasuki
stopped dead in his tracks and crossed his arms. "I'm not going another step!"

Tamahome
turned to them. "What are you talking
about? Miaka is at the top of this
mountain, with those Genbu warriors lurking about and you want to play
stubborn?" Tamahome went up to Tasuki
and grabbed him by the collar. "Don't
push me, fang boy!" He growled.

Tasuki
glared at him. "Just watch me, Little
Gh…"

"Enough!" Nuriko appeared between them, and pulled
them apart. "Look, we're all worried
about Miaka…"

"And Lady
Yui." Suboshi added in.

"But you
two need to calm down." Soi
commented. "Fighting won't get us anywhere."

Nuriko came
up and placed a hand on Tamahome's shoulder.
"Besides, Chichiri is with them.
He won't let anything happen to them."

Tamahome
turned his back to them all and continued up the mountain. "Let's go."

Suboshi
followed without a word and the rest sighed and followed too.

Lelana and
the others regrouped at another location on Mt. Reikaku. Hatsui stayed by Lelana's side. Lelana was furious that her nemesis had
gotten away. She was probably on her
way to the Oracle of Wind right now!
Then again, Miya was on her way to the kingdom of Sairo to find Byakko's
Oracle of Fire. Lelana could very well
go to Kutou and get Seiryu's Oracle of Water, but that would come in due
time. Right now she had to make sure
Miaka and her pathetic Suzaku Seven didn't get to the top of the mountain.

Miaka and
her friend Yui were separated from the others.
That much Lelana was sure of. So
destroying them now would be there best chance. The only problems with that plan were that they had the Suzaku Warrior
Chichiri with them, and most of the Genbu Seven needed rest after their most
recent battle. The only one who didn't
fight was…

"Hatsui!" Lelana called forth the warrior.

He came
forward and bowed. "You called Mistress
Lelana?"

"Yes, I
have a request to ask of you." She
said. "I want you to go to the
Priestess of Suzaku…and destroy the warrior Chichiri."

Miaka was
exhausted, emotionally and physically.
"Can we take a rest?"

Chichiri
turned around. "Sure, I supposed that would be okay." He unhooked the canteen from his belt and handed it to her.

Yui sat
next to Miaka. "Where do you think this
oracle is?"

Miaka
pointed upwards. "At the top of the
mountain of course." She looked behind
them. "I just hope Tamahome and the
others get to us before we find it."
She stopped.

"What is
it?" Yui asked, then gasped as she felt
it too. "Something's coming."

Chichiri
got his staff. "Stand back."

In front of
them, the air wavered and Hatsui materialized.
"Are you the warrior, Chichiri?"

Chichiri
nodded. "I am Chichiri, warrior of
Suzaku and bearer of the symbol Well."
At his knee, Chichiri's symbol glowed.
"And you are Hatsui, am I correct?"

"Very." Hatsui pulled out his own staff. "And I will be the last thing you see!" He lowered his staff and attacked with a
powerful green ray.

Miaka and
Yui hid behind one of the large boulders, to provide them with some protection,
as the two monks faced off.

Chichiri
made a red-hued shield, but the blast shattered his defenses and slammed him
into a tree.

"You didn't
really think your pitiful powers could stand up to mine, did you?" Hatsui taunted.

Chichiri
ignored the comment and drove his staff into the ground, creating a straight
line of red magic, aimed right at Hatsui.
Hatsui jumped to the side, avoiding the attack, but it managed to
completely bisect the tree behind him.
It toppled over and crashed against the mountainside.

Hatsui
laughed. "Is that the best you
got?" He lunged in, coming down hard
with his staff, which in midair, transformed into a sword! He sliced down at Chichiri, who blocked the
blow and deflected it to the side.
Chichiri brought up the other end of the staff and hit the back of
Hatsui's head, making Hatsui flip over, landing hard on the floor.

Somewhere down
the mountain, Tamahome felt Miaka's fear and worry. "She's in trouble!" He
said, starting into a dead run up the mountain.

Suboshi
felt it too and chased after him.

"Tamahome! Wait up!"
Nuriko shouted after them, running up the mountain, the others running
also.

Hatsui got
mad and attacked Chichiri relentlessly time and time again, until Chichiri was
on the floor, blood coming out from a wound on his arm and his leg, and some
dripping out of his mouth. Chichiri
wouldn't give up though. "I live to
protect the Priestess! You will not get
to them!" He cast a spell and sent it
into the earth. The vines came up and
wrapped around Hatsui's arms and legs, lifting him up into the air.

Hatsui was
shocked. "A descent attack coming from
an amateur! But I still have one trick
left up my sleeve!" Hatsui pulled out a
serrated knife and smirked. Then,
without warning, he held the knife in his hand, and pulled. A deep gash opened in his hand and blood
spilled forth. He looked up at the
sky. "Genbu! I give you my sacrifice!
The blood that has been spilled was in praise of you! Now, grant me the power! The power to defeat my enemy!!"

Chichiri
gasped as Hatsui glowed with a green/black aura. The colors swirled around, until they were absorbed into his
body. Chichiri felt more than saw
Hatsui's life force increase ten fold.
Chichiri took an unsure step back.

From their
hiding spot, Miaka and Yui felt it too.
"His…power…" Miaka said in shock.

"It's
enormous!" Yui finished.

"Now you
die!" Hatsui said, with renewed
confidence, as he dove at the Suzaku warrior, breaking free of the vines' hold
on him. He swung, thrust, and parried
relentlessly at Chichiri, and most of them scored hits. Chichiri cried out as the staff (which had
changed back from a sword) opened new wounds on his back and weakened his
defenses.

"Chichiri!" Miaka shouted from her hiding spot.

"Take
this!" Hatsui threw his hands forward
and created a giant ball of magical energy.
It glowed with a black light, and it flew at Chichiri with lightning
speed.

Chichiri
created his own blast and countered Hatsui's attack. The blasts collided with each other, leveling down everything
within a 100-meter radius. Miaka and
Yui screamed and took refuge behind the boulder.

Chichiri's shirt
was blown off him and shredded, revealing all the muscles that few ever
saw. There was a cloud of debris and
dust surrounding the Genbu warrior and Chichiri, down on his knees, narrowed
his eyes to spot the intruder.

When the
dust cleared, Chichiri gasped. There
stood Hatsui…without a scratch on him!

"You don't
get it, do you? The great Genbu has
given me the power to destroy you!
Resistance is futile!" Hatsui
laughed and unleashed another blast, smaller than the first, aimed right at
Chichiri's chest.

"No!" Yui cried out.

"CHICHIRI!!" Miaka shouted, as she saw the blast hit
Chichiri straight on.

Chichiri
flew back and hit the boulder the girls were hiding behind, blood streaming
down his light blue hair and down his face.
Miaka and Yui ran around the rock and knelt besides the fallen
warrior. Miaka took off her uniform
jacket and wiped the blood from his eyes.

"He was a
simple pest. Now I will fulfill my
mistress' wishes and destroy both of you!"
Hatsui began to advance forward.

Miaka
choked back her tears. "I…can't believe
anyone could be so cruel." She wiped
the tears away and glared at the Genbu assassin. "I will get you back for hurting him!"

Yui looked
up, worried for her friend. "Miaka…"

Miaka
responded, never taking her eyes off of Hatsui. "Yui…watch over Chichiri for
me." She began to walk forward. "Chichiri…was always there for me when I
needed him. He's protected me more
times than I ever thought someone could."
She gritted her teeth. "And you beat him down like some fly!"

Hatsui
smirked. "Do you really think you can
fight me and win?"

"Maybe
not…" Miaka said. "But Suzaku sure as
hell can!" Suddenly, a curved symbol
appeared on her forehead, the same one that had appeared before she had coupled
with the beast god all that time ago.
"Suzaku! As your priestess, give
me the power to protect those who have always protected me! I beg you, Suzaku Saikor!" Miaka shouted and looked up to the sky.

Yui gasped
as a red light enveloped Miaka, and blinded her. She squinted and watched as giant red wings, the same as Suzaku,
grew from Miaka's back. When the light
dimmed, Miaka now held a great red bow and a single gold arrow in her
hands. "Did she…couple with the beast
god again?" Yui wondered.

Hatsui took
an unsure step back. "Her aura is so
strong now." He whispered.

"Miaka!!!" Tamahome's voice came from the side, as he
and the other warriors finally made it to the battleground.

"Chichiri!" Nuriko shouted as they ran up to Yui and the
blood soaked Chichiri.

"I will
send you back to the hell that spawned you!"
Miaka shouted, pulling back the string along with the arrow.

"I will
always be stronger than you!" Hatsui
said, readying another attack.

"Then
withstand this!!" Miaka let the arrow
fly and it went right through Hatsui's heart.
He screamed and the golden light surrounded him, causing him to fall to
the ground.

Hatsui's
breathing was rugged, but still he struggled to his knees. "That…wasn't a smart thing to do,
priestess…"

The Suzaku
warriors came and made a barrier around Miaka, the Seiryu warriors going the
same around Yui and Chichiri.

Tamahome
made a fist and glared at Hatsui.
"Attacking the priestesses wasn't a smart thing to do either, dumb
ass." He pointed out.

"I will
restore my honor and heal my wound with one spell!" Hatsui threw his hands forward once again, but this time nothing
happened.

Nothing
visible that is.

Without
warning, Miaka cried out and felt her strength drastically lower.

The Suzaku
warriors felt it too and immediately understood.

"He's
draining her power to heal his own wounds!
Look!" Nuriko shouted, pointing
to Hatsui's arrow wound. The blood soon
disappeared and the wound healed almost completely. Miaka was now completely drained and fell to the ground.

"Miaka!" Tamahome knelt besides his love and cradled
her head.

"This guy
is trouble!" Tasuki growled. "I'll get rid of him right now!" He took out his fan. "Rekka Shinen!!!" Hatsui jumped above the flame and disappeared.

"I'll be
back for you, priestess…and next time I will be stronger than I was today. Beware…"

The
warriors looked around for him, but couldn't sense anything.

"He's gone,
for now." Amiboshi said, quietly.

Soi looked
down on Chichiri. "What happened here?"

Yui
sighed. "Chichiri defended us against
Hatsui, and when Chichiri gained the upper hand, Hatsui made some kind of
sacrifice to Genbu. It increased his
power tremendously and Chichiri…didn't stand a chance."

Miaka's
wings disappeared back inside of her.

"How do you
explain that?" Tasuki pointed to Miaka.

"She no
doubt called upon Suzaku, am I right?"
Soi looked to Yui, who nodded.

"What do we
do now?" Suboshi asked.

Miaka
stirred in Tamahome's arms. "We…have to
get…to the top of Reikaku. We… have to
get the Oracle…" She wheezed in pain.

"You aren't
going anywhere." Tamahome said
firmly. "You're injured."

"So is
Chichiri!" Miaka shouted, but then caught herself. "He...defended us…so we could get the oracle…"

Nuriko
sighed. "I'll carry Chichiri." He bent down and gently lifted the
unconscious Chichiri out of Yui's arms.
Tamahome stood with Miaka.

"Come
on! We're almost there!" Tasuki said, enthusiastically, trying to
cheer up the mood.

Soi
growled. "Where does he get all that
damned energy?"

Amiboshi
chuckled. "Maybe he ate some sugar
cane." One stick of that would send
anyone up the walls. It was a favorite
treat for children in all the four kingdoms.

Soi sweat
dropped. "I sure hope not."

"It could
always be sake. (The drink)" Suboshi said, half supporting Yui, who was
emotionally spent.

"Are you
saying I'm drunk!!??" Tasuki shouted,
glaring at Suboshi.

"If you
didn't act like it then maybe…" Suboshi countered.

"Enough!" Yui shouted. "We still got some ways to go."
She looked to Tasuki. "Well go
on! Lead the way!"

Tasuki
straightened up. "Sure, right this way please.
No drawing pads, communication horns, or other recording objects
allowed."

At the back
of the group, Tamahome looked down at Miaka, as he carried her. "Why did you take on so much by yourself?"

Miaka half
opened her eyes. "Chichiri…when you
were gone...enslaved by Kutou…Chichiri talked to me…he helped me and made me
understand what I had to do. I owe it
to him…" She blinked back new tears.
"Without him, you and I couldn't be together…and Yui would still be my
enemy."

Tamahome
nodded. "We owe him a lot. But still…" He paused. "I hate to see you like this."

Miaka
smiled. "All is fair in love and
war. As the old saying goes."

Tamahome
raised an eyebrow. "One of the more
interesting phrases I've yet heard."
Both chuckled and followed the group to the temple.

Hatsui went
flying as Lelana backhanded him. "You
let them go!!??" She screeched.

Hatsui
rubbed his cheek. "The priestess of
Suzaku was more powerful than originally thought. I had to come back here and regroup." He replied.

"And they
are still going straight to the temple that holds the Oracle of Wind?"

Tomite
stepped forward and nodded. "We can
always intercept them there and take the oracle…"

"No."

Everyone
turned to the new voice and saw Ladon come out of the shadows. "The beast gods are smart and would not let
just anyone have their precious oracles." He said. "Only a
priestess of the gods can break the seal on the oracle and released its
power." He turned to Lelana. "A strong willed priestess." He added.

Lelana
growled and clenched her teeth as the turned away to look out the window. "You may have won this round, Miaka, but I
swear, I will destroy you!"

Miaka and
the others got to the top of Mt. Reikaku in little under three hours, but
unfortunately Chichiri's life force was getting weaker. The temple was huge, and caused all
onlookers to be struck with awe.

The design was
old, and the front door was huge and made of solid granite. The pillars were sandstone and etched with
Japanese characters, something only the priestess' would understand. 'The weak may come, to steal what's within,
but only a strong willed miko will find the true power.'

Tasuki was
especially shocked. "I never recognized
it here before." He mentioned. Having grown up on the mountain, he would
have thought he knew everything there was on it. And now this…

"It was
probably because it was created when the need for the oracles to be found was
established." Soi grinned at Tasuki's
clueless expression.

"In other
words it's new." Amiboshi cleared up.

Tasuki
blinked back his confusion. "Oh, I get
it."

"We have to
hurry." Nuriko brought back their
attention to the present. "He won't
last much longer." He looked sadly down
at Chichiri.

Miaka
grimaced and looked up. "Put me down."

Tamahome
gasped. "Miaka…"

"Put me
down!" She said more forcefully.

Tamahome
gently put her down on her feet and helped her stand up.

"How do we
open the door?" Suboshi asked.

"A combined
attack might work." Soi suggested.

"Allow
me." Amiboshi pulled out his flute and
put it to his lips, closing his eyes.
He played a song and attacked the doors with his magic. He played higher and higher, his companions
not feeling any pain this time, for he was aiming it at the door.

As he hit
his climax, he opened his eyes. Open.

The
doors exploded on command and everyone cried out as rock spewed
everywhere. They smiled as the doors
had indeed opened, allowing the warriors inside.

Miaka and
Yui exchanged determined looks and slowly walked inside the temple. Tamahome and Suboshi followed, but a force
field made the fly back into the rest of the group.

"What
happened?" Nuriko asked.

"You… can't
go in." Chichiri whispered.

"Chichiri!" Tasuki gasped.

"Only…the
priestesses…can go…we warriors…have to stay here…"

He grimaced in pain and Nuriko
frowned in worry. "It's up to you two
now."

Inside,
Miaka and Yui walked through the red toned hallways, until they found a
brightly lit room. At the end of the
room, the two found what they had come for.

The Oracle
of Wind.

Miaka
slowly stepped up to the pedestal it was set on and raised her hands to the
circular shaped stone. It was the size
of her hand and had Suzaku carved on it.
When Miaka's hands closed in around it, two lights flew out of it and
Miaka gasped, pulling the oracle close to her.
Her wounds healed themselves and Miaka felt reenergized.

The lights,
one blue and one red, landed in front of her and formed into two people. One was a happy sight. It was Mitsukake! His spirit smiled and Miaka smiled back. The other figure made Miaka's eyes
widen. It was Tomo! But he looked different this time.

His crown
was smaller and his hair was down, falling down behind him. All his face make-up was gone and he wasn't
half bad looking!

Yui ran
over besides Miaka. "What's going on
here?"

Mitsukake
stepped forward. "Let me explain. When this new enemy, Ladon, made his plans
to come after Taiisukun, the beast gods sealed some of their power into these
oracles, and sent the warriors to protect them. Ladon had already gotten the warriors of Genbu and Byakko, so the
rest of us were sent to each of the four temples."

Yui
frowned. "I understand why you were
sent here, Mitsukake, but why you, Tomo?"
She asked.

Tomo looked
down at the ground unsurely. "I…was
originally born in Konan. My…wife and
child stayed there, when my calling was to join the Seiryu Seven."

Miaka
blinked. "Wife? Child?
I thought you were…"

"I
am…now…but I wasn't always. When I
started working for Nakago, things changed.
I didn't like who I was anymore and decided to change everything about
me. Even that."

"What about
your family?" Yui asked.

"I…haven't
seen them in many years." He responded quietly.

Miaka
nodded. "Oh…" She paused, and then
remembered. "Oh! Mitsukake!
We have to get you outside!
Chichiri's been injured!"

The
warriors outside were sitting quietly.
Soi and Nuriko were tending to Chichiri's injuries.

Tasuki
sighed. "I hate waiting here doing
nothing! Those Genbu warriors could
show up at any moment!"

"I got
it!" Miaka shouted, running out of the
temple. "I got the oracle!"

"And we
found some friends!" Yui shouted behind
her.

Tamahome
turned to the girls and nearly fell back in shock. "Mitsukake!"

"Tomo!" Suboshi shouted.

"Where's
Chichiri?" Mitsukake asked.

"Over
here!" Nuriko pointed to the sorcerer,
getting out of the way.

Mitsukake
came up and knelt besides Chichiri. He
dug into his robes and pulled out the pouch Taiisukun had given him. He tried to cast his healing spell, but
nothing happened. He cursed to himself.
"I can't do it in this form! I need a
flesh body to heal him!"

"What do we
do now?" Yui asked.

In
response, the Nyan Nyan inside Nuriko popped out and began chanting. "Nyan
Nyan! Nyan Nyan! Nyan Nyan multiply!" Suddenly, the Nyan Nyan curled into a ball
and burst into a ball of light. When
the group opened their eyes, where one Nyan Nyan had been, there were now
three!
One went back into Nuriko, one
into Tomo and the last one into Mitsukake.
The healer smiled. "Thank
you." He turned his attention back to
Chichiri. "Great healing power!" Chichiri glowed with a brilliant light and
his wounds healed. Amazingly, Mitsukake
didn't feel weakened at all.

Miaka
smiled. We did it…we got the first
oracle. Only three left to go…
