The Madman

I am in love with a madman
the rest of the world scolds and laughs
and sometimes weeps just watching us
our pills, our episodes, our broken dreams.

He is no longer mine because
he is too mad to love me.

And I am too mad to stop love
I buy him pretty things that sparkle
I like to see that look on his face
his eyes widen, his mouth turns into an "O"
and he marvels like a child at things that are
not nearly as amazing or aberrant as he.

He is a massive caged beast
with a chocolate-brown mane and strange eyes
there is something frightening in those eyes that
I am not afraid of.

I love him even though he is addled
his mania fascinates me
he is a Picasso.

You can tell he is human, he looks it
yet there are so many things that are quite wrong
horridly out of proportion
you become rapt... just staring at him
he's a manic work of art
