Chapter 2- Friends Or Are They?

Kagome dropped her head and sighed. She looked back up at Ayame who was staring in wonder at her. Carefully Kagome raised her hand to her shoulder and touched the old scar. Immediately she was in her Seeker outfit.

“Yes, but you mustn't tell Inuyasha...he hates me enough as it is, he doesn't need to know that one of his friends is guilty for the death of his brother.” Kagome said, sitting down on her couch. Ayame sat down beside her and gave her a friendly hug.

“I won't tell. But Kagome, be careful. He's looking for you. And the police will be after you as well.” Ayame said. Kagome nodded, she had already known that. She had to be even more secretive than before.

She hated herself for this, she couldn't do anything right, not even what she was meant to do, she couldn't kill a demon without hurting someone she cared for. She began to sob as Ayame left, carefully shutting the door before Inuyasha and Koga could see her outfit.

“ `The police are searching for the woman known as Seeker, guilty for the killing of Sesshomaru no Taisho, son of the police officer Heshono no Taisho.' Oh, Inuyasha!” Sango cried, wiping her eyes as more tears poured from her eyes.

Kagome was sitting quietly beside Meka, who was dressed in black and seemed to have taken a vow of silence. Kagome looked down at her fists, they were clutching at her own black skirt. Everyone was wearing black, mourning Sesshomaru's death.

Kagome looked up and was met with Inuyasha's gaze. She flinched slightly at his look. He stood up from the breakfast table. She gave a small yelp as he grabbed her injured arm.

He pulled her out of the cafeteria, she leaned against the wall, and looked down at the floor, not wanting to see the hatred that he was directing at her, though he didn't know it was her that he was directing it at.

“How is your arm?” he asked softly. She looked up startled, his hands were in his pockets and his eyes...she flinched again, they held no life. She had done that.

“F-fine.” she whispered, almost bursting into sobs. She shook her head, holding her head as guilty thoughts went through her mind.

“Well, well.” she looked up to see Kagura standing there, dressed in black but no sign of remorse on her face.

“You know, Kagome, it's almost like it's your fault as well. After all you are always mentioned by Seeker every time she shows up.” Kagura laughed at the look that Kagome must have had on her face.

“That's a lie! I am not friends with her! SO KEEP YOUR DAMNED MOUTH SHUT!” Kagome screamed, her aura pulsed out of her knocking Kagura down. “I hate Seeker! I wish I had never met her!” before Inuyasha could stop her Kagome ran off.

She ran as fast as she could, dodging everyone, and running out onto the street. She hugged herself as her sobs came louder, she felt like collapsing and never opening her eyes again.

`I wish...I wish I had never become her. Oh, Kikyo...I need you!' Kagome sobbed silently to herself. She found herself in front of the hospital. She walked in and walked into Kakeromoro's room.

He stared at her blankly from his bed. He then looked away and back out the window in his room. Kagome sighed and sat down at his side, she gently took his hand and smiled as his hand curled around hers.

“Hey, it's me, Kakeromoro. Remember me? I'm Kagome. Kikyo's sister. The one with a totally screwed up life. I killed a boy last night. He never saw it coming, and his brother, my best friend, is seeking my death. What am I going to do.” she whispered.

“You must find he who holds the key. He who did this. He who holds your world.” she gasped at Kakeromoro's voice. His hand made hers form the sign for `N' once again.

“Is this a clue? The letter n?” she asked eagerly. But he had once again fallen into silence. She looked at her hand and stood up. Determination filled her features. She left the hospital, and went back to school.

She hesitated at the door. She should go home and stay there for the rest of the day. Too late, Ayame saw her and signaled for her to come in. Kagome walked in and went to her. Ayame's eyes held a worried look.

“Are you alright?” she asked as they went to first block. Kagome nodded, she ignored Inuyasha whose gaze was burning in her back.

“He's worried. He said you cursed at Kagura and knocked her down with your aura. Kagome, I don't want to sound like a worrisome mother, but be more careful, or someone will figure it out that you are Seeker.” Ayame said walking up the stairs to her Science class.

Kagome made her way to her World Civics class and gave Sensei Harlan only part of her attention as she focused the rest of it on ways to avoid the police when she was Seeker.

She landed on the rooftop, and pulled her skirt down lower, or at least tried to in a futile attempt. It was cold that night. She was about to jump again when a voice stopped her cold in her tracks.

“So, what are you doing here, Seeker?” she whirled around and there stood Inuyasha, his hand poised in the air. Hesitantly she pulled out a fire charm.

“Heh. Not going to use your death spell on me? You didn't seem to care when you used it on my brother!” he growled his knuckles cracking and his claws glimmering in the light of a street lamp.

“No...” Kagome's hand relaxed, she placed the charm back in her coat pocket. He seemed startled, not that she could blame him. She would be to if her family's killer suddenly found it in their heart to spare her life.

“What? Kill me...if you can.” he growled. Kagome shook her head, fighting her tears.

“I will not. Kagome begged me to spare your life, and I will do so. I will honor her wishes.” Kagome lied. But Inuyasha was to upset to notice how her scent spiked at the comment.

“She hates you. She wants nothing to do with you.” he growled at her. She sighed, a smile that held no joy crossed her features.

“I know that all to well. But for now she has bound herself to me. I will avenge her family if and only if she keeps my true identity a secret, Inuyasha.” Kagome jumped off the roof before he could reply to that comment, she had a feeling that she would be getting a visit extremely soon from Inuyasha so she headed towards her apartment.

She slid open her balcony door, touching her scar, causing her pajamas to replace her Seeker uniform. She yawned and laid down on her couch, figuring she could get a quick nap before she had to face Inuyasha. The fates however seemed to be frowning down on her.

KNOCK! KNOCK! She yawned and padded over to her door. She opened it and accidentally yawned in Inuyasha's face, though he didn't look like he was in the mood to be yawned at. He growled at her forcing his way into the dark apartment.

“Inuyasha *YAWN* what do you want?” she asked, rubbing her eye lids as they began to droop over her hazel eyes. He glared at her.

“I just had a run in with Seeker. She said you knew her true identity. Who the hell is she Kagome?!” he growled. Kagome took a step back and began to shake as he began to transform. She began to sob at the thought of everything she was going through and how she had dragged Inuyasha down with her.

“Please don't! Don't transform into that...that thing!” she begged as the purple scars formed on his cheeks. At the sound of her words, at the sound of disgust and fright behind them his eyes turned gold again, but the scars remained.

“Kagome...” he whispered. She was crying, her entire body was shaking. She was looking at him with despair in her eyes, she held a secret from him and he knew she wouldn't tell him by the way she was looking at him. And that made him angry.

“Tell me! Tell me who she is!” he growled at her. Her eyes grew angry as even more tears spilled from her eyes.

“How can you be so cruel? She promised to kill the person who killed my family as long as I kept her identity a secret and you're asking me to tell you? Inuyasha, you know how much I want my family's killer to lay dead at the feet of the police! How can...no...HOW DARE YOU ASK ME TO DO THAT?!” she screamed at him, and with her scream she slapped him as hard as she could.

Inuyasha cradled his cheek, looking at her in astonishment. Her whole body was trembling, he long bangs hid her features from him, but it didn't hide the two tears that rolled down her cheeks and slid down her chin. He lowered his hand, he deserved that, he could admit it. He'd just asked her to give up avenging her family's unjust death.

“You win. I'm sorry, Kagome. But you remember this, and you can tell your friend Seeker this as well, I will have her blood staining my claws and I will make sure she dies.” he growled at Kagome.

“Inuyasha...” she whispered as the door close behind him. She collapsed to the floor, sobbing. Inuyasha wanted her dead, only he didn't know it yet. She smiled through her tears, what would he say when he found out the girl he murdered for revenge of his brother's death was one of his best friends?

She sobbed even harder, knowing he wouldn't care because she had killed his brother after all. She stood up, her face hard. Well, he would have to catch her first, and she was not an easy person to figure out. Inuyasha didn't realize what he had gotten himself into.

He had challenged Seeker. And Seeker, dammit, was not going to let the challenge go unnoticed. Only problem....Seeker loved Inuyasha. Though she just didn't know it...yet. This was definitely going to be an interesting battle.

`Indeed.' her heart said as she fell asleep on the couch.

“You and Inuyasha haven't spoken in three days! What in the world is going on?” Ayame asked as they walked into lunch. Kagome sighed and looked over at the table they would be sitting at, everyone waved at her, well almost everyone, Inuyasha was too interested in his drink.

“I told him in Seeker's form that I knew her true identity, and he came over to my apartment that night and demanded that I tell him who she was. B-but I got angry and...slapped him. He said that he wouldn't stop until my blood stains his claws and I lay dead at his feet.” she whispered as they walked over to the table.

Ayame was wide eyed as she sat down beside Koga, that she ignored poor Koga when he tried to ask her a question. Everyone laughed as he tugged on her hair and she gave a small yelp of pain.

“Wh-what are you doing?” she demanded, slapping his hand away. He rubbed his hand as a red mark appeared on it.

“What are you so amazed about that Kagome told you about?” he asked, everyone else nodded eagerly and Kagome and Ayame shared a look trying to figure out a good story to tell their friends.

“Kagome told me that she was passing Sensei Harlan's class! I bet she's the only one to!” Ayame muttered enviously. Kagome slumped down in her chair in relief as the others nodded in agreement.

`What have I become?' she asked herself for the millionth time. Suddenly a blast of power startled all off them. Kagome jumped out of her chair as a beam of demonic energy hit it.

A demon had burst through the wall and was attacking people who couldn't dodge its attacks of energy.

“Bring me Seeker!” it laughed angrily. Kagome gasped, immediately Inuyasha was standing in front of her, both his hands ready to attack. Kagome gulped and he looked back at her, but before he could say anything to her she ran out the door.

She rounded a corner and touched her shoulder and her school clothes melted into her Seeker jacket and skirt and white shirt. She ran back into the lunch room and jumped up on a table that had yet to be knocked over.

Everyone in the lunch room gasped, it was the first official appearance of Seeker since she had killed Sesshomaru. The demon threw energy at her and she dodged, throwing a fire charm at the ugly demon. It laughed as it pushed the charm aside, Kagome gave a small cry as energy hit her in the leg.

She hid the wound by making her coat go in front of the leg that the energy had hit. The demon smirked, having sensed that its attack had indeed hurt the young woman.

“Seeker...” growled a voice. Kagome ignored Inuyasha, dodging another attack as the demon ran at her. She jumped backwards into a wall, her foot hitting and she pushed off towards the demon.

She met it, placing a fire charm on the demon. But blood flew in the air, Ayame screamed as a flash of light blinded everyone in the room. Ayame looked around desperately, searching for Kagome's form.

She sighed as she saw it, Kagome was standing holding her right arm, which now sported a lovely cut that was bleeding like mad. Ayame wanted to go to her friend, but didn't dare because people would think that she was friendly with Seeker, which she wasn't.

“Heh. Faster than the eye, you are.” Kagome said a smirk playing on her face. She dodged another energy blast. The fire charm hadn't worked because she had lost concentration when the demon had cut her. She pulled out another charm hoping that she would be able to concentrate long enough on this one to make it work.

But suddenly something flew into the ground, causing her to propel backwards, right into Inuyasha's chest. She coughed as dust lodged itself in her lungs. Shakily she climbed off Inuyasha, holding her chest. Slowly the dust cleared and Kagome saw that an arrow was in the ground where she had been standing, she coughed again, briefly wondering who had shot the arrow before she dodged another attack from the demon.

She jumped up in the air and concentrated all of her energy on her fire charm and threw it at the demon. The square piece of paper attached itself onto the demon's head. The demon screamed as the fire charm burnt it, paralyzing it. The demon fell to the floor, and Kagome exhausted, fell to the floor.

She heard clapping and looked up to see a shadowed figure standing on a table that hadn't been knocked over in the fight.

“Very well done. Naraku will be displeased. Since the demon seemed inadequate to destroy you, I guess I'll have to finish the job myself.” the figure turned around and Kagome saw that the person's choice of weapon was a bow.

`Her arrow must have been the one that blew the floor up!' Kagome thought, standing up clutching her arm. “Who are you, that you hide your face?” she called to the figure, her voice sounded weak but at least it was steady.

“Hmph. I thought that you would already know.” light shined on the face, a woman's voice. The woman had on red kimono pants, and a white kimono shirt, she had sandals on.

But her face...her face was what startled Kagome the most. It was the face Kagome had known so well, the face Kagome had been searching for ever since she was fifteen. It was Kikyo.
