Chapter 2
Several minutes later, Keyoko slowly opened her eyes. Her body shook slightly as the fat sound nin that was carrying her walked. `What happened? Am I being kidnapped?' She remained still as she could hear voices ahead. “Good job everyone. There is no need to destroy that village just yet. Now that we have their Jinchuruki, they'll never survive the next attack. We'll just keep attacking and retreating, weakening them each time until we strike the finishing blow. Foolish villagers, they'll see that it doesn't pay to make an enemy of me.” Orochimaru's cold and sinister tone gave Keyoko goose bumps.
`Jinchuruki, does he mean me? I'm no demon; my bloodline is just dragon-related. But either way, I've got to get out of here. There's no telling what this sick bastard is gonna do to me. I'll do a simple substitution jutsu.' She moved her hands in the proper hand seals slowly so as not to be noticed. Her body was unnoticeably switched with a nearby fallen tree stump. She remained in that form until the group faded from sight. A cloud of smoke appeared in place of the stump to reveal Keyoko standing next to a tree. By this time, the footsteps had receded completely.
She sighed heavily. `They'll notice that I'm gone sooner or later, so I've gotta go. But where? I can't go back home, they'd just come back to kidnap me again. I should go to the least noticed Hidden Village for safety.' She leapt into the nearest tree and began jumping. `I'd be safe in Amegakure; they'd never think to look there. Oh, but what about Ryo? I can tell he really likes me.' She sighed again. `I hate to break his heart, but it's not safe for me to go back.'
She continued jumping for an hour, until a slight noise to her left caused her to stop. She turned her head and waited. Then, a slight `crack' issued from the same direction. She activated her dragon eyes and scouted the area. Her eyes fell upon a girl about her age with long black hair. The girl's red eyes gazed around until they met Keyoko's dragon ones. `Can she see me, or is she just staring off into space?' The black-haired girl opened her mouth to speak. “Yes I can see you, now come out.” Keyoko's eyes grew wide. `Whoa, she just read my mind. But she's no sound nin, so it's safe for me to reveal myself.'
Keyoko leapt down from her tree and stepped cautiously towards the strange girl. The girl, sensing that Keyoko wasn't a threat, changed her eyes back to their original black color. Seeing this, Keyoko changed her eyes back as well. The black-haired girl frowned as she crossed her arms. “Who are you, and why were you spying on me?” Keyoko maintained her stoic face. “It's only polite that you introduce yourself before demanding that others do so first.”
The girl sighed, a tinge of annoyance laced throughout it. “Fine, my name is Kaitoshi Uchiha. And you are?” Keyoko's eyes widened slightly. “Uchiha? But I thought all the Uchihas had been wiped out seven years ago.” Kaitoshi's face grew pained. “Don't remind me. My little brother and I were the only ones that were spared.” Keyoko's face grew soft with sympathy. She stepped forward and embraced Kaitoshi in a comforting hug.
“I am so sorry for your loss. By the way, I'm Keyoko Katara. Why are you so far away from Konohagakure?” Kaitoshi frowned. “Isn't it obvious?” Keyoko smacked herself in the face. “Sorry, I shouldn't have asked such a stupid question. If I had had any parents or a clan, and they had been brutally murdered, I'd have run away too.” Kaitoshi gave her a surprised gaze. “You don't have any parents or a family?” Keyoko shook her head. “They told me my mother died giving birth to me and that my father had been killed on a mission. But, I do have a bloodline.” Kaitoshi smiled slightly. “Really, what is it?” Keyoko grinned proudly. “I have the abilities of a dragon.”
Kaitoshi frowned. #She doesn't have a bloodline, she has the spirit of Hachimata inside her. Poor thing, she still doesn't know.# Kaitoshi frowned. `Are you sure Kyubii?' Kyubii issued a mental snort. #Have I ever been wrong?# Kaitoshi turned back to Keyoko. “Abilities of a dragon? I've never heard of that before. Are you sure you're not a Jinchuruki? There's a biju named Hachimata who's the eight-tailed demon.” Keyoko frowned. “That's what snake-face said, but I don't think I'm a Jinchuruki. It's probably just my bloodline.” Kaitoshi shrugged.
“It would explain why you were orphaned.” Keyoko sighed. “If I had a demon inside me, it would talk to me, wouldn't it?” Kaitoshi shook her head. “Not necessarily. Some Jinchuruki go half their lives not knowing.” She paused to grin slightly. “I hope you are one.” Keyoko eyed her strangely. “Why?” Her grin widened. “Because I'm one, too and I'd love to meet another.” Keyoko's eyes shone with curiosity. “What biju do you have?” Kaitoshi replied, “Kyubii, the nine-tailed fox.” Keyoko gave her another confused stare. “Kyubii? But I heard that a boy named Naruto of Konohagakure had Kyubii sealed inside him.”
Kaitoshi sighed. “You see, there's a male and female form of every demon. If there wasn't, then the demons couldn't reproduce if necessary. So, I have the female Kyubii, and he has the male one.” She then giggled slightly. “But there are rumors that if a Jinchuruki with the male demon and a Jinchuruki with the corresponding female demon have kids, then the demons reproduce as well. And their children have baby demons inside them. Sounds crazy huh?” Keyoko nodded as Kaitoshi turned her back to her.
“Where are you going?” Kaitoshi shook her head. “I'm not going anywhere. There's no safe place out there for me.” Keyoko frowned. “But what about your brother, Sasuke? Are you just gonna leave him all alone in this world? Go back; I'm sure he misses you terribly.” Kaitoshi hung her head. “Sasuke thinks I'm dead.” Keyoko placed her hands on her hips. “Well then, that's even more of a reason to go back! In fact, I'll go with you. I need somewhere safe to stay for a while.” Kaitoshi suddenly grew angry. “Don't you get it, I CAN'T go back! How can I face everyone else knowing that I couldn't stop my brother from wiping out my clan? I was strong enough to stop him, but I froze. I couldn't do anything. Sasuke… Neji, there's no way I can face them.” Keyoko stood silently facing the tearing Uchiha.
Her eyes grew defiant. “Why… why do you blame yourself for what someone else did? You didn't kill your clan, Itachi did. And he spared you and Sasuke for a reason. So why aren't you spending time with the only sane sibling and family you have left? Why break his heart and let him think he's all alone in the world? Loneliness is the most painful thing to endure, trust me. I was all alone before I met my friend, Ryo. So go to him. He needs you.” Kaitoshi wiped her eyes against her sleeve. “But… I can't.”
Keyoko grabbed her by the hand. “You can't run forever. We're going to Konoha, and that's final. Kaitoshi smiled at Keyoko's determination to change her mind. `She's a lot like Lee.' “Alright, let's go.” The two of them jumped into the nearest tree and began making their way to Konoha.
