An Ode to aLove That Lasted
(Dedicated to my aunt and uncle on their first wedding anniversary, August 31, 1997. Shining examples of commitment, dedication, and compromise were all about.)

So, how does it feel to say “I love you!” and mean it?

Well, I must admit, I don't know what true love, time and patience are all about
But you, Aunt Bern, Uncle Reg, chose to stick it out
To weigh the ups and down, smiles and drowns of life
To become a beautiful couple—become man and wife
To you, I wish a life of unbridled passion
The best of things, of God, is what I'm askin'
The open-mindedness to see past your differences
When a problem first arises, I know you'll see past your differences
And deal with them with all the knowledge you had to start
And really live up to the phrase “Till death do us part”

So much luck and joy I wish you throughout the years
Hoping that only happiness is ever the reason for your tears
I watched for a year and saw your love grow
A vibe that flows throughout us all
I hope you both are united forever and you always stand tall

Oh, and one thing constantly on my mind clicking, buzzin'
When are y'all gonna break down and give me another cousin?

No, let me stop; I probably made your hearts skip a beat
(Hee hee heeeeee!)

But, to end this poem on a solid note
And give you the point of this poem I wrote
(Which meant much love—and I love you both)
Many celestial wonders lie ahead
Enjoy them and each other…now I'm going to bed

Just kidding! Happy Anniversary!
