Dinner Date

-Azusa-

She's done it again! My mom's arranged another blind date. I don't wat to go!

“Mom, why?” I whined on the phone.

“You will be forty soon,” she said.

“So?”

“Don't you want a boyfriend?”

I pouted, puffing up my cheeks. “Yes…”

“It's about time you met a nice man.”

“But you always pick the creeps and weirdos!”

“Satoshi is a nice man. Please give him a chance?”

“You won't back down from this, will you?”

“Do it for me?”

I sighed. “Fine.”

“You are such a good daughter!”

“Yes, mom.” So here I am now on the date from hell. Mom booked this fancy French-style restaurant in downtown Osaka. I hate French food. I stared at the big old-style building. My face twisted into disbelief. How is she paying for this? I'm a teacher! I don't have this kind of money! I could just leave, turn around and walk away. No one would know, right?

“Are you Iwata-san?” I heard someone ask. I whipped around and saw a man in a gray suit standing in front of me. He held a bouquet of roses in his hand with his glasses on the bridge of his nose. I blinked with a blank expression on my face.

“Uh…”

“I'm Satoshi, your date.” He pushed up his glasses on his face. I felt like dying as my face dropped. No… This is Satoshi? God help me! I laughed nervously. My date grinned.

“Great,” he said. “It's so nice to meet you.”

“Yeah…” I mumbled. This can't be happening! Why, mom, why?!

Satoshi was so boring! All he talked about was his job. Why did she pick an accountant?

“What do you do for a living room?” he asked. I tried not to fall asleep.

“What? Oh. I'm a teacher.”

“A teacher?”

“Yeah.” I looked at my empty glass. Did I really drink up all my wine? Is this date over yet?

“Which grade?”

“What?”

“What grade do you teach?”

“Oh, junior grade.”

“Do you enjoy your job?”

“Yeah.” My eyes trailed over to Satoshi. “Do you enjoy your job?”

“I told you didn't.”

My eyes fixed on him. “Really?”

He sighed. “I hate my job. It's so boring!” Okay… Where did this come from?

“Then why do you stay in accounting?”

Satoshi sighed, dropping her shoulders. “My parents wanted it for me.”

“Ah.” I felt sorry for him in a way. He's like me in a way. I frowned. I don't know how deal with it. Luckily, a waiter approached our table.

“Are you ready to order?” he asked. Satoshi read his menu again.

“Mmm… I would like the… Duck a l'orange.”

“I don't have much of an appetite, thank you.” I handed back menu. Satoshi gave me an odd look as our waiter left.

“You're not hungry?” he asked. I put up my hands.

“I don't like French food.”

“I never had it myself.”

“Lucky.” I felt myself trembling. No! You will never get me to like you? My heart belongs to Ryo-kun and Hideki-kun! I will not betray them! You can't make me do it! You can't!

I had no idea that I would keep crossing paths with Satoshi from then on. Mom's got me in a trap this time! Damn it, woman! You are so evil!
