Buzz

I:
And now we have another problem. It started after that stupid
meeting. One of the more popular girls panicked.
“My phone is gone!” she wailed. We all turned around to
see this ganguro girl digging through her bag.
“No. No. No!” she wailed. “My phone is
gone!” Her friends circled her.
“You sure you didn't leave it somewhere?” one of them
asked.
“No!” the girl wailed. “My phone was in the bag
like I always had.” She started to cry. Her friends tried to
comfort her. It didn't matter to me. She'll find it later.
That girl wouldn't be the only one.
II:
More phones started to disappear. They would just vanish into thin
air. More students started to panic. I looked at my own phone. Ha.
Who would want to steal my crappy phone? I'm good.
But classes have to go on. So straight to class we go. That's how
life is. First period is math. The teacher walked into the room.
Wait a minute…
I raised my head. I also raised my hand.
“You're not Nakamura-sensei,” I said. The man with the
bulldog face frowned.
“Nakamura-san left,” he said. The class didn't respond
at first.
“Why?” one guy asked.
“Family,” Bulldog Face said.
“Stand,” the class rep said. The class stood up.
“Bow,” he said. We all bowed.
“Sit,” the class rep said. We sat down.
“Thank you,” Bulldog Face said. And class began.
III:
More phones vanished. Now the teachers feel it. Time for another
council meeting. Oh boy.
“Someone is stealing our phones,” the council president
said. Chatter filled room. I rolled my eyes. Saori nudged her in
the side.
“Stop,” she whispered.
“What?” I asked. She frowned at me.
“Rolling your eyes,” Saori said. “Just
stop.” I frowned. Someone cleared their throat at us.
“Yes?” Saori asked.
“Is there something you need to share?” the council
president asked. Saori and I didn't speak at first. Suddenly, Saori
stood up.
“Tenshin and I want to do a steak out!” she blurted
out. We all looked at her. I glared fire.
“Why?” the council president asked. Saori shrugged.
“Better than nothing, right?” she said. “We might
even catch the culprit.” The council president sighed and
rolled her eyes.
“Fine,” she said. “Permission granted.”
“Thank you, pres,” Saori said, bowing. She sat down
next to me.
“You're dead,” I mouthed at her. She pretended not see
me.
IV:
At least we're out of class. But it's boring. I stretched my arms
behind my head.
“Why are we doing this?” I asked.
“I panicked,” Saori said.
“Why my phone?” I asked.
“Mine is broken,” she said. I narrowed my eyes.
“Uh-huh,” I muttered. We rounded the corner in the
hall.
“Are you sure this will work?” I asked. Saori
shrugged.
“We'll have to see,” she said. I frowned and rolled my
eyes.
“Why do you always do that?” she asked.
“Do what?” I asked.
“Roll your eyes all the time,” she said.
“Do I?”
“Yes. You shouldn't do that. It's not a good look for
you.” I just frowned at her. Lame. So lame.
V:
Lunchtime and nothing happened. No culprit yet. I turned to Saori
as ate in the gym.
“Hey, how long are we doing this?” I asked. She
shrugged over her bento.
“I don't know,” she said. I gave her an odd look.
“What?” I asked. Saori rubbed the back of her head and
laughed. I flopped back, groaning. Seriously? This is a joke,
right? It has to be. There is no way.
Meanwhile, thief struck again…
