Chapter 12

“Wataru… what happened?” Red asked, running his fingers along the dragon's scales. Wataru said nothing.
“You can change back now, can't you?”
Again, there was no response, and a strange feeling began to sink into the pit of Red's stomach.
“Unless… you're stuck like this?”
Wataru nodded.
“But…but why?” Red was very confused. He eyed the magnificent sword he was still holding. During this time, several ANBU had congregated, and taken away Genji's corpse. He was sure they would be full of questions later…
Was this the power that could defeat Sakaki?

“Wataru… thank you.” He whispered, as he held Wataru close. The dragon leaned its head against his shoulder, and tears began to trail from his eyes.
True, he had wanted revenge, but had Wataru sacrificed everything for him?
He wasn't dead, but…!
It wasn't the same, if he was a dragon, then… Red would have lost his teacher, his real teacher, not Natsume, and his only friend, because Satoshi and Kasumi were only his team-mates, and…
He wasn't Wataru's lover; he knew that, but these feelings…
Was he in love?

Ninja weren't supposed to love! But he couldn't deny that now, Wataru was his most important person…
Wataru kissed him then, and Red allowed it, and then the air around them shimmered and flashed, and he was being pressed down onto a bed, and there were claws spreading his legs apart, but delicately, and then he was entered and he cried out in pleasure-pain…
And then the scales melted away and Wataru was there once more, though the Sword had vanished.
It mattered little.
Red hugged Wataru tightly, and held him close, and was content.

Wataru smiled. Choosing Red might not have been a wise choice at first glance, but his instincts had been rewarded.
When a dragon truly loved someone, they were able to change their power - their very life - into a sword, the Sacred Sword that was rumored to be able to defeat any evil. Of course, should this happen, they would lose their human form, unless the one whom they loved were found worthy, and most of all, returned that love.
Red did not know any of this, but even so, he felt as though something very important had just happened.
Wataru kissed him again, and Red allowed it. After all, a kiss was hardly comparable to what had just transpired between them.
“Wataru?”
“Yes?”
“I'm confused.” Red said honestly. “Is that bad?”
“It's fine, Red.” Wataru almost purred. “I still have so much to teach you, after all…”
“Oh.” Red blinked, and kissed back.
Learning about this, if this was love… that wasn't bad. And he could do it.
He knew he could.
He closed his eyes, and smiled prettily, and Wataru simply smirked, reaching forwards and tousling his hair.
It would work. They would make it work. Somehow.
Red looked forwards to his future now, the threat of Genji gone, and felt lighter. He could live for more than revenge now.
Maybe he could start living for love, and he knew Wataru would help him with it.
Love…was new.
But it wasn't bad, and he accepted it, and took the first step forwards.

SAPPY, I know! But it was great fun writing it!
When the Sword is there Lance can't change back to human. It's not as bad as dying… *cough* Yes, it is a Sacred Sword reference! And no one has his or her memories!
I'm a fanon whore. ^^
I know I suck at endings sometimes. *Sigh*
Red: *Hugs Lance*
Lance: *Smirk*
