After all, she thought, it was perfectly reasonable of her to be shocked. Disgusted, even, when she discovered what was really going on during those so-called training trips. Her hands clenched into fists and she clenched her eyes shut, not wanting to see the images silhouetted against her eyelids.

Ash, and him…

How could he do this to her? She was his wife!

 

“You realize, of course, that she knows.” The Dragon Master said, his voice soft.

Ash did not reply, and for a moment, Lance wondered if he had drifted off to sleep. However, chocolate eyes blinked open and met his, burning fiercely.

“I know.”

“Well, are you going to do anything about it?”

“I don't know.” He sighed. “I thought I loved her. I really did.”

“And now you don't anymore?”

He nodded. “It's just that… we were never more than friends. I'm not sure if she understands that. And I should apologize…”

Lance said nothing for a moment, before he brushed a faint kiss across Ash's lips. “Then you should go.”

Ash nodded, and began pulling on his clothing, as he tried to figure out how to unravel the tangled mess his life had become.
