Lance stared dubiously at the structure Red had just plunked down on his desk, scattering his papers. “What is this?”
The Champion grinned brightly. “It's a bird feeder! I built it myself out of plywood and glue! Isn't it nice?”
Well, it was… if one were an overly indulgent parent. The structure was lopsided and painted in a glaring shade of bright red paint. The trays bulged with piles of acorns and unsalted peanuts, and Lance felt almost touched. It was clear that Red had put a lot of effort into the project, but it looked like it would fall apart at the first gust of wind. Still…
“It's very nice. Shall we go hang it outside?”
The wild bird pokémon would appreciate the effort, if nothing else. Red cheered as he pulled on his mittens and scarf, and raced out the door. Lance followed at a statelier pace, while he discreetly reinforced the bird feeder with duct tape in sagging parts. Ahh, thank Mew for duct tape…
Red proudly hung the bird feeder from the small overhang in front of the Plateau entrance, and then turned to Lance.
“Why don't we sit in the lobby and see if any birds come?”
Lance was about to protest that he still had a lot of paperwork to do, but he found himself pushing that thought to the back of his mind. The child's enthusiasm was infectious, and he grinned.
“All right. I'll make us some hot chocolate.”
“Yay!”

Within moments, they were sitting on the couch with mugs of hot chocolate and a big bowl full of mixed nuts that Red was snacking from. Red really was an adorable child, and Lance resisted the urge to tousle his hair and cuddle him. That would be improper…
Of course, when Red climbed onto his lap and began to play with the ends of his black scarf he quit thinking about decency and decorum.
Red blinked as Lance kissed him. It was so sudden, but he didn't dislike it - Lance was warm and tasted like chocolate!
“Cute.” Lance murmured, pulling Red into another kiss. The Champion was only too happy to oblige. The kisses were soft, and as they finally broke apart, Red glanced out the door and grinned.
“Lance! Look!”
The Dragon Master turned, surprised, before he smiled. Two Pidgeys and a Spearow were perched on the posts of the bird feeder, happily eating nuts.
“I think they're happy too!”
“I bet they are.” Lance murmured, and kissed Red again.

“Um…” Red blushed. “Does this mean you're my boyfriend now?”
“If you want.” Lance grinned.
“I do want!” Red hugged him tightly. “Kiss me again?”
And Lance did.
