Pokemon Fan Fiction ❯ Looped ❯ Chapter 1

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

A crazy, twisted fanfic by none other than Phantomness.

Summary: Three days before the beginning of the Indigo League Championships, Ash Ketchum is thrown across time and space to land in a whole other universe! At the same time, his counterpart from Pokemon Adventure, Red, lands in the TV animéverse. Now, Ash is just trying to find out what to do, while Red is having the time of his life, with Pika and all his faithful poke pals by his side.

Timeline: 2 days before the Indigo League in the TV series, 9 weeks after the defeat of the Elite Four in the comic.

Disclaimer: Shadow owns nothing but this idea, and some made-up pokemon and attacks. Oh, and Destiny, but he's not here right now…

Notes: <> indicates telepathy, ** indicates thoughts, and italics indicates translated poke speech. Oh, and Red has emphatic powers. I'm basing this fic on a mixture of the anime, the manga, and the game. Prepare to be confused!
Another note: This story will mainly focus on Red because I like him a lot better than Ash! Technically, Red = Ash, but that's okay, I'll just refer to him as Red because it's less confusing that way.

Title: Looped
Chapter 1: Does Crossing = better?

There was a bright flash of lightning outside the pokemon center.

The next morning…
“ASH KETCHUM! WAKE UP!” Misty yelled as she dumped a bucket of cold water over the sleeping trainer. However, the person with the Pikachu who jumped out of the bed was most definitely not Ash. He looked a lot like Ash, but he was missing the zigzag birthmarks, he was a few inches taller, his skin was paler, and he was wearing a red-and-white jacket instead of Ash's blue-and-white one. Plus his poke belt was gold with a medallion as the buckle and his sneakers were red and white.
“Pika, use Thunderbolt!” Red yelled, as he threw Pika forwards, who zapped the unfortunate water trainer. “Don't you have any honor? Sneaking up on a sleeping trainer!”
Misty sizzled. Hearing the commotion, Brock ran inside. He blinked when he saw Red. “Who are you?”
Red blinked. “What do you mean, who am I? I'm Red from the town of Pallet remember? My Pikachu K.O.'d your Onix? I helped save Indigo Island from Team Rocket's takeover? I beat Bruno of the Elite Four?”
“He's not Ash, that's for sure.” Misty muttered.
“Of course not. Who's Ash?” Red asked as Pika backed away from Misty and hopped onto his head. “Sorry about that, Misty. I really didn't mean to hurt you! Oh, and if you want to trade Krabby back for Gyrados, I'll let you have Gyra. But he's kind of attached to me now…”
Misty blinked. “Okay, you're obviously not the Ash Ketchum that I know. So who are you?”

After half an hour of explaining later…
“Oh, I get it. You must be that alternate universe's version of Ash.”
Red shrugged. “I guess.” He said. “So I get to battle in the pokemon league in his place?”
“I guess so.” Misty said. “You look a lot like the picture anyways.”
“No problem.” Red said smiling. “I'm already Indigo League Champion. I've held that title for three years. This should be pretty easy.”
Misty and Brock looked at each other and shrugged. “Okay. But how are we going to explain this to Ash's mom?”
Brock shrugged. “I don't' know…” * Let's not think about it yet… *
Ash went to the bathroom to apply the little zigzag birthmarks that Ash had…

Later, Red, Misty, and Brock were walking through Victory Road.
“Look! A Graveler!” Brock said in awe.
Red shrugged his shoulders. “I already have one. What else?”
Brock's jaw dropped. “How many pokemon have you captured?”
In response, Red held out his pokédex. “Pokemon seen: 231. Pokemon captured: 131. This Ash sounds like a slacker to me.”
Misty and Brock's eyes both bugged out.
“But I've been a trainer for three years or so.” Red said helpfully.
They kept walking. Soon, they encountered… a wild Moltres.
“Wow…” Brock said. “This is incredible!”
“Are you going to capture it?” Misty asked. * This will be a good chance to see if he's really as good as he's been bragging about.”
“Sure! That's one of the ones I don't have yet!” Red said enthusiastically. “Aeroy, I choose you!” Red's Aerodactyl materialized in front of him and grabbed his shoulders with his claws. Red and Aeroy flew towards the Moltres, which flamed at them.
“Are you insane?!” Misty shouted.
“Don't worry about me!” Red called.
Brock looked very nervous. * I hope he knows what he's doing… *
“Good thing we've done this before, Aeroy. Supersonic than Hyper Beam!” Aerodactyl nodded and confused the Moltres, before blasting it with hyper beam. It was quite easy for Red to use an Ultra ball to capture it after that.
Brock and Misty spent a few more minutes collecting dust with their mouths. Red shrugged. “What?”
“YOU CAPTURED A MOLTRES?!”
Red patted the ultra ball. “Yes, why?”
“Oh my god…” Misty said. * He really is good! I almost pity the trainers who are going to compete against him… especially now that he has a Moltres too… *
Red seemed oblivious to their chatter and amazement. “Come on, let's go!” He said, racing off. Misty and Brock had no choice but to follow.

They were nearing the exit when…
“Prepare for Trouble!”
“And make it double!”
“To protect the world from devastation!”
“To unite all people within our nation!”
“To denounce the evils of truth and love!”
“To extend our reach to the stars above!”
“Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!”
“Surrender now or prepare to fight!”
“Meowth, that's right!”

Red had a puzzled look on his face. “Okay… I've never seen Team Rocket agents in white before, except for Sabrina. So you must be as good as she is. Poli, I choose you!”
Red's faithful oldest pokemon popped out and jumped in front of his trainer protectively.
“Arbok, go!”
“Weezing, go!”
Just then, James realized something. “Jessie, doesn't the twerp look different?”
“Yeah, he does.” Jessie said, peering closely. “I think he bleached his hair or something.”
“If you're not going to fight, I hope you don't mind losing!” Red said. “Poli, Ice Beam!” Poliwrath's ice beam crashed into the two Rocket pokemon and froze Wheezing solid. Arbok managed to dive underground and escape.
“When'd the kid get a Poliwrath?” Meowth wondered. “Oh well, the Boss will love this new pokemon!” With that, Meowth leapt at Poliwrath, intent on using Fury Swipes to knock it out.
“Double Team.” Red said calmly. Poliwrath duplicated himself, confusing Meowth, while the real one snuck up behind it and used Mega Punch.
Meowth flew into the air.

“Arbok, now! Go for the twerp!” Jessie said. Arbok shot out of the earth and wrapped its long body around Red so he was unable to reach for his poke balls.
“We've got you now, Twerp. Now hand over the Pikachu.”
“Pika, run!” Red called. Pika dashed off immediately. Jessie and James ran after it, leaving Red alone with Arbok.
“Don't worry, Red! We'll free you somehow!” Misty said as she released Starmie and Brock released Onix to fight against the snake pokemon. Red didn't say anything, just suddenly went limp. Satisfied, Arbok released its prey and slithered off.
Red's eyes opened a few seconds later. * Thanks for teaching me this trick, Blue. It came in handy. * He thought as he opened another poke ball. This one contained a Sandshrew. Sandshrew darted after Arbok and within minutes had scratched and slashed it into oblivion. It ran back to its master and wagged its tail.
“Good job, Sandshrew.” Red said, patting the cute little mouse pokemon on its head. “Now let's go find Pika!”
Pika dashed through the rocky twists and turns. After a few minutes though, she realized that Team Rocket did not have any pokemon with them. Her eyes lit up as she prepared for a Thunderbolt.
“We've found you now!” Jessie said as she reached for the little rodent.
“PIKACHU!” Pika said, throwing the leashed electric power at the rockets. They screamed and flew off into the air. “Looks like Team Rockets blasting off again!”
No trouble at all. Pika said as she scampered back to find Red.
Red hugged Pika. “Great job, Pika!” Pika nodded happily and zapped him.
Red laughed. “Okay, let's go!” He told Misty and Brock.
“You're not a bad trainer.” Misty said.
Red smirked a little bit. “Well, it has a little to do with all the training I've done, but…” He didn't finish his sentence. “Look! There's the exit!”
The three trainers ran for the door.
