Part 6! The two trainers search for the stolen pokemon!

Author's notes: It has come to my attention that some people do not bother reading my author's notes and persist in asking the same questions over and over. I don't like repeating myself! But no, I'm not talking about Ash until later, and Yellow is under no circumstances and in no way, shape, or form, going to be in this fic! >.<

Part 6: Friends or enemies?
The next morning…
“The tracks disappear here.” Red said angrily. * Don't worry Pika; I'll come save you. Please hang in there! *
< I understand. > Red started a bit.
“Ash? Are you O.K.? You were tossing and turning last night.” Richie said worriedly.
“I'm fine.” Ash said. < Pika, do you know where you are? >
< I'm still in the sack. >
< Great. Don't worry; we'll rescue you and the others! >
< I know. >
Red cut off the telepathy and turned to Richie. “Do you know anything about Team Rocket?”
“Well, they exploit pokemon for profit…” Richie said.
Red sighed. “Oh well. I'll just do this the harder way. Ninetails, I choose you! Can you sniff out Pika's scent?”
An elegant ninetails materialized in front of Red. She nodded after a few seconds. We will have to cross the river, though, and…
“Gotcha. And then their tracks lead towards Viridian City?”
Yes.
“Thanks, Ninetails.” Red said, caressing her ears for a second before he recalled her. “Okay, Richie, let's go!”
“But I don't have any pokemon… besides, what are we going to do?” Richie asked.
“Richie, we're going to break into Team Rocket Headquarters.”
“WHAT?!” Richie's eyes nearly boggled out of his head. “Ash, that's insane! How do you know they're there?”
“Trust me.” Red said. * Well, I can't tell him about an alternate universe… *
“But Ash, I don't have any pokemon…”
“What pokemon are you used to using?” Ash asked.
“Um… Charmander, Pikachu, Butterfree…”
“Here.” Red said, handing Richie two poke balls that he took out of the little box on his belt. “A Charmander and a Butterfree. They'll listen to you.”
Richie's jaw dropped. “Ash… how many pokemon do you have?”
“I can't tell you, but quite a few.” Red said. “And their headquarters, if I'm not mistaken, are in the Viridian City gym.”
Richie was speechless.
“Let's go. Aeroy, I choose you!” Red called. “Oh, and Fearow, could you carry Riche, please? I don't think Aeroy's up to battling with two people on his back.”
You can say that again. Aerodactyl muttered.
Red jumped on Aeroy, while Richie tentatively mounted Fearow. “Let's go!”
Richie idly wondered what he had gotten into, and if it would be safe to ask Ash for another pokemon.
“Ash?”
“Yes?” Red asked.
“I have a Venomoth too…”
Red tossed Richie another poke ball. “Be careful with her, she's kind of fragile…”
“Okay.”

About an hour later, they landed at the entrance to the Viridian City gym.
“Who is it?” Giovanni called. “Challengers at a time like this?”
Red stepped forwards into the light. “Nice to see you again, Giovanni… could you just give me Pika back so I don't have to fight you?”
“Ash!” Richie hissed. “What are you doing?”
“What are you talking about?” Giovanni asked, feigning confusion.
“Don't play games with me, Giovanni. You know that timeline shifts will throw at least three people into this dimension. One of them is going to be Lance, and you're the next best trainer.” Red said. “And besides, you had Beedrill standing guard.”
“You're getting better and better, son.” Giovanni said. “Although I am a bit perplexed at what is going on here…”
Richie waved his arms frantically, but neither noticed.
“We've been thrown three years back, in a different timeline, and in this one, I started out with a Pikachu, not Bulbasaur, and I never did overthrow TR. Surge, Koga, and Sabrina are all honest gym leaders. You never did take over Silph or any of the other places…”
“Ah. I see.” Giovanni said. “And would those agents who took Pika be Jessie and James?”
“Yep.”
“Here you go.” Giovanni said, handing over a familiar-looking burlap bag. “I think they're all here.”
He untied the bag and Pika immediately jumped out and latched herself to Red.
“Have fun, dad.” Red said, smiling.
“I'm expecting you to win, son, so don't let me down!” Giovanni said.
Red gave Giovanni a `V' for victory. “Remember what you said at Mount Moon? I intend to keep that promise.”
Then, he led Richie outside.

Richie was still speechless.
“Aw, darn. I don't want to explain this.” Red said. “Poli, please use Hypnosis on him.” Poli nodded and subtly altered Richie's memories. Hence what we see on the animation show.
“Ash?” Richie asked, rubbing his head. “Where are we?”
“About a mile from where we were. Can you walk?”
“I think so. Did I get hit with a psychic attack after we rescued the pokemon?”
“It was a Drowzee.” Red said. “Come on, let's go.” They walked all the way back to the Stadium.
There, they passed out the poke balls to their respective trainers.

“Oh Ash! I was so worried!” Ash's mom gushed as she glomped Red, who blushed a little bit.
“Aw, it was nothing, mom.”
“Ash, I'm so proud of you!” Professor Oak said.
“Thanks, professor Oak.” Red said with a smile.
“Don't ever do something that dangerous again!” Misty commanded.
“I won't.”
“Good!”

Later…
Red pulled out a Magikarp and blinked at the number painted on its side. “A-3? Who is that?”
“I don't know.” Misty said. “You'll be fine!”
Brock nodded. “Don't freak out, Ash. You've done well so far.”

Just then, the huge T.V. screens lit up.

Ash vs. Richie

“No way.” Red said in disbelief. “This is impossible!”
Everyone else was stunned, no words were exchanged.
The two new friends stared at each other.
