Pokemon Fan Fiction ❯ Technically Correct ❯ Chapter 1

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

This fic was actually started a long time ago… started 5/4/01
Shadow here! This is my newest fanfic! I haven't thought of a name for it yet, but it's based on the idea that Ash inherits a gym- and the curse- from some far-flung relative on a distant island. So what happens? Read this story to find out! Yes, Ash is Destiny, but he doesn't have any powers other then translation and telepathy yet, so they think he's just another psychic.
Disclaimer: I don't own pokemon. Pokemon belongs to Nintendo and Shogakukan Comics. This is non-profit, non-copyright infringing fanfiction that belongs to me.
Notes: <> for telepathy, ** for thoughts, italics if a pokemon talks
This is a slightly revised version and I will finish the fic
Ages in this fic: Ash is 14, Misty is 16, and Brock is 18.
Um… T-W-T, I've only seen Indigo League at this point so I assumed Ash just kept traveling… and then I knew a little about Johto, so I kind of melded it… in any case, Ash kept all of his Kanto pokemon. I might add in Johto pokemon to the revision…
Title: Technically Correct
Chapter 1

“Almost home!” Ash exclaimed happily as the walked along the dirt path leading to Pallet Town. “Then I can see my mom and Mimey again!” Misty wrinkled her nose, but didn't say anything, while Brock consulted his map. Pikachu yawned and smiled from her perch on Ash's head. Ash gave a jubilant shout as they came closer, and the sign marking Pallet Town was now visible.
“Mom! I'm home!” Ash yelled. Ash's mom came running out in an apron followed by Mimey.
“Oh you're home, my little Ashy! How are things? Did you remember to change your underwear every day?” she asked.
Ash sweatdropped. “Yes mom. And I'm not a little kid anymore.” He muttered. “Yes, you aren't. That's why there's something I'd like to ask you.” Delilah said.

“Oh, really? Okay.” Ash said, sitting down and grabbing a cookie from the stack of chocolate-chip cookies on the table.
“Now Ash, you do know that you have an uncle who lives in the Aqua Islands, right?” Delilah said.
Ash shrugged. “I have several uncles. What's it to me?” It wasn't as if he had ever derived benefit from those numerous associations.
“Well, your uncle Lucas just died.” Said Delilah.
“And we have to go to the Aqua islands for the funeral.” Ash guessed. Delilah shook her head.
“Nope! You guessed wrong. It has to do with his will.” She said.
Ash raised his eyebrows. “His will?” he asked, perking up. ``Did he leave us money or something?” he asked. Misty and Brock, who had largely been ignored, discreetly listened.
After all…. Cash was _always_ useful on the trial. Then, they could leech off his guilt. Well, at least Misty could.
Brock wouldn't sink so low.

“Well, actually, he left you his gym. And his pokémon.” Delilah said. It took about a minute for this to sink in. “
My uncle was a gym leader?! And he left me his gym and his pokémon?” Ash shouted, jumping up from his chair. Delilah nodded. “That is so totally cool!” Ash crowed. Delilah smiled. Not exactly the reaction she had expected, but it was a good reaction.
“So, what's the catch?” Ash asked, after his initial jubilation had worn off.
“Well, you'll have to move to the Aqua islands, Azure in particular… That's where his gym is.” Delilah told him.
Ash thought for a while. Then, he shrugged. “Why not? It might help me meet some new friends, catch some new pokémon…” Ash drifted off into dreamland as the possibilities flashed before his eyes.
His future suddenly looked much brighter…
Well, why fight good fortune? Lady Luck didn't smile upon him that often, but she was smiling radiantly now.
He didn't need Misty or Brock to follow him anymore. They could go back to their own gyms; that was a good thing, since Misty _was_ an annoying, well, to put it mildly, pain in the neck.
Mildly.
He quickly collected his pokemon from Oak and packed swiftly.

A week later, Ash Ketchum was flying to the Azure islands, all by himself. Misty and Brock had refused to travel farther then the Orange Islands or Johto, so they weren't there. Pikachu sat on Ash's head. Ash himself was sitting on Pidgeot's back.
Luckily, Ash had mailed all his furniture and stuff to the gym beforehand, not that there was that much of it. It was still boxed though, and waiting to be unloaded. Pikachu chirruped a little bit before suddenly squeaking “Pi!”
But really, why not travel alone? He wasn't a little kid anymore.
No, not at all…
Ash blushed slightly. Well, the Elite Four had sent him a letter saying a representative would be staying with him for a month or two until he got settled, since he was still so young and didn't have family with him to run the gym, unlike Sabrina, Bugsy, Whitney, Lisa and Tate…
That was fine… as long as it wasn't Bruno.
Ash winced as he thought of what might happen.
Lorelei might be nice, Agatha would be creepy… well, he shouldn't think about it now!
Wind whistled in his ears, and he made a mental note to purchase earmuffs next time he went flying. It was awfully cold…

Pidgeot had just started to descend, banking her wings sharply in standard landing position.
Should I?
“It's all right girl, go for the dive!” Ash said. Pikachu clung onto Ash with both paws as Pidgeot dived towards earth at no less then 60 Mph.
Amazingly, Ash seemed fine, he wasn't puking or anything. When Pidgeot finally landed, Pikachu fell onto the ground and groaned while Ash jumped off and took a look at the gym.
It was standard gym design, a large arena, from what he could see through the large windows. Ash frowned, noticing that one or two were broken, possibly as a result of vandals. That had to be fixed.
The roof was purple, the walls white.
It seemed fine.
Taking a deep breath, Ash pushed open the double doors soundlessly and walked in. He passed an Umbreon sleeping near the door.
A minute later, the Umbreon had leaped at him with Bite. Ash panicked, dropping Bulbasaur's poke ball, and a Solarbeam sent Umbreon scuttling for cover, while Sweet Scent immobilized it next and Sleep Powder was applied.
“So much for coming in quietly…” Ash sighed.
Pikachu sparked her cheeks in warning. More are coming! I think they are your uncle's pokemon…
“Great.”
