Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ A Couple Like Us ❯ One-Shot

[ A - All Readers ]
Story # 46 from Sailor DKC! Been pretty busy this month so I have
time to do this one-shot about Rei and Jedite. The portrait which
inspired this story is from the artist Caper Blossom whose works are
from the site Generals Love.

When you see this *, I am describing the portrait in a scene. I want
to thank Caper Blossom for her 4 beautiful works in which I wrote a
story for each one. They are “The Way We Danced”, “Help Me
Remember”, “My Mina”, and this one!

I am borrowing the artist character, Yumeno Yumemi from Season 1
episode 28 and I’m using her DIC dub surname, Loni Lanai (aka Peggy
Jones).
Rated G and entertainment only. Have fun reading! Naoko Takeuchi owns
Sailor Moon, I don’t!

Dedicated to Caper Blossom! I love that Rei and Jedite picture!

Peace!

A COUPLE LIKE US
By Sailor DKC

Sighing, the famous artist on Earth, Loni Lanai, looked at
many people as she wandered around the ballroom at the Moon Palace.
‘Ah, how tiring!’ she thought. ‘I still need inspiration for my next
portrait, but I need something different.” Then she smiled as she
saw Prince Endymion and Princess Serenity dance by. ‘They were in my
last exhibit. My portrait showed their true loving emotions to each
other even if they part. Now I want to portray a couple who nobody
would expect to show such emotions.’
Then Loni saw Princess Rei of Mars walk to the punchbowl,
flinging her long black hair aside in fury. Following to stand behind
her was one of the Earth Generals, Lord Jedite. “Rei!” he said. “I
wasn’t finished talking!”
“Oh, I say you are!” Rei fumed as she turned to face him.
Crossing his arms, he continued, “I don’t know what you‘re
mad about. All I did was comment to Cooan on how cute her outfit was.
I didn’t claim I was in love with her!”
“Some comment!” she retorted. “ ‘Oh, Cooan, how cute you
are like a cat! Meow!’ “
“Oh, come on, Rei! She’s just a kid! I was making her feel
better because her classmates made fun of her outfit.”
“Well, that tutu was out of season!” She turned her back
and crossed her arms. “And you didn’t have to sound so adorable!”
“Like I said, she’s just a kid and…” He paused, then
smiled wickedly. “Awww,” he drawled, as he placed his hands gently on
her shoulders. “Is my fiery sailor of Mars jealous, hmm?” He tipped
her chin with his finger to make her look at him.
She gave him a pout. “What if I was?”
“Oh, sweetheart, there’s no need to be,” he whispered as
he bent his head. She raised her lips up to meet his.

“THAT’S IT!”
Both Rei and Jedite jumped, startled as they saw a young
lady in a blue gown with brown hair styled in a long braid approach
them. “Oh, yes!” she continued, as she looked up and down at them and
clapped her hands in glee. “You two will be my next portrait!”
“Excuse me,” Jedite said. “Who are you?”
“Oh, pardon me!” The lady bowed. “I am Loni Lanai, and I
would like to paint you two.”
“Loni Lanai!” Rei gasped. “The famous artist? The one who
did that beautiful painting of Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion
which is now hanging at the Royal Museum on Earth?”
Now it was Jedite’s turn to be shocked. “You? You’re Loni
Lanai?”
Smiling, Loni straightened up. “Yes, that’s me, and I want
you two to be models for my next painting.”

“But why us?” asked Jedite.
“Because I want to show a new scenario of unexpected
emotions,” the artist explained. “I didn’t mean to watch you argue
earlier, but when you two were about to make up, I saw such passion
that I never expected from a couple like you.”
“A couple like us?” Rei arched an eyebrow.
“Yes, I have heard about you guys, always arguing no
matter what. So it came as a delightful surprise to see how you two
act so passionately towards each even if it’s rarely shown. So what
do you say?” Loni asked, clasping her hands in a begging posture.
“Would you both please pose for me?”
The couple looked at each other, unsure. “Well, I guess
so,” Jedite replied, scratching his head.
“Yeah, why not?” Rei shrugged. “Could be fun!”
“Great!” Loni took out her business card and handed it to
them. “We’ll set up a date and time, and you can come to my studio.
The address is on the card. Now what we’ll do…” She continued
speaking while the couple thought to themselves.
‘A couple like us?’

A few days later on Earth, Rei and Jedite were heading
towards Loni’s studio. Both were deep in thought as to how they
should pose for the painting.
‘Hmm,’ thought Rei. ‘Should I look serious or happy? Maybe
I should look like I’m breathless or surprised. Maybe I should be
mysterious or wonder what’s going on around me?’
‘Let’s see,’ thought Jedite. ‘I could look brave or stern.
Or I could give a respectful glance or a penetrating stare. I guess I
could give a mysterious smile or arch my eyebrow in confusion.’
Then they noticed that neither of them had spoken a word
to each other, and they laughed, nervously. “So, this will be
something,” he said.
“Yeah,” she replied. “A couple like us modeling for Loni
Lanai!”
“You know I always wondered what she meant by ‘a couple
like us’? Are we different from the Prince and Princess?” Jedite
scratched his chin, thoughtfully.
Rei shrugged. “I don’t know. I guess it’s because we’re
always arguing. With our Majesties, I saw two people looking at each
other with such love and some sadness. It’s as if their portrait was
saying, ‘I will find you no matter what.’ ”
“Yeah, I saw that, too.” Placing his arm around her
shoulders, he held her close as they approached the studio. “Let’s
see how she wants us to pose, and maybe our portrait will say
something about a couple like us.”

“So you’ll be wearing your red gown, Lady Rei, and you’ll
be wearing your white cape with your uniform, Lord Jedite.” Loni
clapped, excitedly, and gestured for them to stand against a white
background. Then she gave them each a red rose. “OK, let’s see,” she
began. “Lord Jedite, you stand against the wall, and I’ll adjust your
cape so only your upper uniform shows. Hold the rose in your right
hand like this. Good, good. Now, Lady Rei, you will lean your back
against his left arm like this. Pose your right arm up as if you’re
about to reach around his neck. Yes! That’s it. Hold your rose in
your other hand like this. Yes!”
Standing back, she surveyed her subjects. “OK, now remain
in your poses and just turn your heads to look at each other.” They
did, and Loni stared at them for a minute. “Ok, now hold that while I
make a sketch. I know it won’t be easy, but please don’t move for a
few minutes.”

As she sketched, Jedite whispered to Rei, “I don’t see how
this pose could represent us.”
“Me neither,” she whispered back. “It doesn’t feel
inspiring.”
Loni paused to look at them and frowned. Putting her
sketch pad down, she stepped forward. “Let’s try this. My lady, hold
the rose between your fingers like this. Good. Now, my Lord, gently
caress your rose around her elbow of her raised arm.”
As they did, Rei felt a shiver going throughout her body
as Jedite caressed her elbow. Her fingers of her raised arm flexed as
if aching to wrap around his neck and pull him down for a kiss.
Jedite felt a shiver going down his back as he gazed at Rei’s eyes
which were lovingly looking at him. He fought the urge to lower his
head to kiss her.

Loni stepped back to observe again. “Oh, yes,” she said,
quietly. “It just needs a little more.” Quickly, she set up a low
wide fan behind them and turned it on. The silent blowing air made
Rei’s hair go flying up and Jedite’s hair go fanning about. Loni then
returned to her pad and resumed sketching. “This is great, so great!
Just hold that posture for another few minutes.”
As she drew, Rei and Jedite stared at each other. “Rei,”
he whispered again. “I never knew how posing like this is so
intriguing. You look so beautiful.”
“And you,” she whispered back. “I’ve never seen you so
passionate. It makes you look so handsome.”
“I guess your passionate nature rubbed off on me.”
“Really? So are we a passionate couple?”
“I like to think so.”
“Jedite.”
“Rei.”
“Nearly done!” Loni chirped, happily. “Just one finishing
touch!” She reached into a bowl of red rose petals, grabbed a
handful, and gently flung them in Rei’s direction. As they fluttered
down and about, Loni drew as she spoke, “Wow! I swear you two really
show passion!”

As they left the studio, the couple held hands as they
walked. “She’ll let us know in a few weeks when and where the
painting will be appearing,” Jedite said. “Are you nervous?”
“Yeah, I mean, everyone will soon see our portrait and
wonder if we’re really like that,” Rei said, giggling.
“You don’t think they’ll see us as a passionate couple?”
he asked, frowning.
“Well, if you look at our Majesties right now, it’s so
easy to see how they fell for each other.” She sighed, sadly. “What
if we don’t look as passionate as they do?”
Stopping, Jedite looked around, and when he made sure no
one was watching, he gently leaned forward and stared at her.
Shivering, Rei gazed back as she felt him lifting her hand and
kissing it so tenderly across her knuckles. “You said I looked
passionate before,” he softly said. “It wasn’t for the portrait. It
was for you. You bring out the passion in me from your passionate
nature. Therefore, a couple like us is full of passion.”
“A couple like us,” Rei murmured as she reached around his
neck and pulled him down for a kiss.

A few weeks later, Loni Lanai made her presentation at the
Royal Musuem. “And now, ladies and gentlemen,” she declared as she
stood to one side of the closed drawing curtains. “I present to you
my latest work entitled PASSION.” After she gave the signal, the
curtains were drawn back, and everyone gasped and clapped at the new
painting.

* The portrait showed Jedite, his hair fanned about, caressing Rei’s
raised elbow with a rose. They stared at each other, passionately.
Rose petals flutter about Rei. Her long black hair was swept up so
lovely while she held the rose betwixt her fingers. *

Loni felt very proud and pleased to see the many positive
reactions to her portrait. Out of the corner of her eye, she could
see Rei and Jedite at the back of the room, holding each other and
looking pleased as well. Smiling, she watched as they turned their
heads to face each other and tenderly kissed.
‘I knew it!’ she thought. ‘A couple like them are very
passionate!’
