LITTLE MINA
By Sailor DKC

In the Moon Palace…

“Lord Kunzite! Lord Kunzite!
Smiling and rolling his eyes, the 16-year-old platinum white blond
teenager turned to face the blonde 13-year-old Venusian princess with
the red ribbon on her head running down the hallway. “Ah, Little
Mina! How sweet to see you again.”
Stopping in front of him, she panted happily, “I’m so glad you’re
visiting again! Guess what? I’ve been chosen to be a Sailor Senshi!”
Clasping her hands in his, he raised and gave them a playful kiss.
“I’m so happy for you, Little Mina!”
Giving a cute frowning pout, she stuck out her underdeveloped chest.
“Lord Kunzite, I’m not little anymore! I’m 13! That’s the age when we
begin to act like adults!”
Chuckling, he patted her head. “Dear, sweet one, you’ll always be
little to me and close to my heart. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have
to join my companions and my Prince.”
Mina brightened up in excitement. “Oh, yeah! You’re meeting with
Queen Serenity. I’m sure she’ll tell you about my becoming a Senshi!”
Nodding his head, Kunzite turned and walked away. “I’ll see you
later!” he said, over his shoulder.
“See you!” Mina waited until he rounded a corner and was out of
sight. “My love,” she whispered to herself.

In Mina’s room…

Mina rested on her stomach on her bed, her head on a pillow, feeling
very depressed. Mako sat on one side by her. “Are you saying he still
calls you ‘Little Mina’?” she asked.
“Mm-hmm,” she murmured, sadly.
“Oh, Mina, don’t take it so hard. I mean, you just turned 13 a few
days ago,” Rei said, sitting on the other side of Mina. “You don’t
turn into an adult overnight.”
Sighing, Mina got on her knees, clutching her pillow. “I hoped that
maybe he’ll notice something different about me. Ahhhhh, I love him
so much!”
“Wow, you got it bad.” Mako laid down on her back, putting her hands
behind her head. “How long have you had these feelings for him?”
“Since he turned 13 and started behaving like a grown-up,” Mina
sighed as she hugged the pillow, closing her eyes. “That was when he
was chosen as a bodyguard for Prince Endymion of Earth.”
“Well, he sure takes his position seriously.” Rei leaned against the
headboard of the bed, crossing her arms. “We should all take our new
positions seriously, being the Sailor Senshi and all.”
“Hey!” Mako sat up, excitedly. “Mina, this would be a perfect time to
show Kunzite how adult you can be. If you start acting seriously,
he’s bound to notice you for sure.”
“I don’t know. I mean, do you think it will work?” Mina fluffed her
pillow, absentmindedly. “Will he finally notice me and maybe return
the same feelings that I have for him?”
“You’ll never know unless you try,” Rei encouraged.
Mina made a determined face. “I’ll do it!” Tossing her pillow down on
the bed as she stood up, she made a V-pose with her fingers as she
faced her friends. Then they all broke down into fits of excited
giggles.
A knock sounded on Mina’s door. “Come in!” she called out. In came
Ami, and she had a distressed look on her face.
“Ami, what is it?” asked Mako.
Ami let her gaze fall on Mina. “Oh, Mina!”
“What?” Mina made a worried face.

She was running down the hallway again. “Lord Kunzite! Lord Kunzite!”
Ami delivered the news that the Prince and the bodyguards are
leaving, but they will not be returning for a long time. It wasn’t
the length of time that they’ll be gone that bothered Mina. It was
the leaving without saying good-bye that got her so upset. She
arrived at the transport room in time to see Kunzite activating the
controls. “Lord Kunzite!”
Startled, he looked up from the controls. “Little Mina?” She flung
herself into his arms, sobbing. As he held her, he looked up at his
companions and the Prince, standing on the glowing transfer pads.
Making a gesture that he’ll catch up with them, he flicked on the
switch, and they disappeared. A green light glowed, indicating that
they all made it to Earth safely. Pushing Mina gently from him, he
asked, “Little Mina, why are you crying?”
“You’re leaving! You’ll be gone for a long time!” She sniffed. “I’ll
never see you again!”
“Oh, my dear, don’t cry.” He hugged her. “I have to go. Now is the
time for us bodyguards to take our positions seriously. Our goal is
to be Guardians of the Earth.”

“Guardians?” Mina pulled back to blink up at him.
“Yes.” He wiped her tears away. “Not only will we be protectors of
the Prince, but of the Earth as well. And that will take immense
training which means it’ll be a long time before we visit again.”
“How long will you be gone?”
Shrugging, Kunzite stepped over to the controls to prepare his
transfer. “Who knows? It depends on how successful our training
goes.”
Walking up to his side, Mina stared up at him. “I’ll miss you,” she
said, quietly.

* Looking down at her, Kunzite placed his left arm around her,
clasping her left upper arm. Gazing up at him, Mina placed her left
hand on his chest. *

“And I’ll miss you.” He smiled, sadly. “If and when we’ll meet again,
you’ll see me as a General, a Guardian of the Earth.”
“And you’ll see me as a Sailor Senshi, a Guardian of the Moon
Kingdom!” she stated, determined, as she perked up.
Laughing, he tweaked her nose. “There’s no doubt in my mind that
you’ll succeed, Little Mina!”
Frowning, she shook off his arm. “And another thing!” she said,
angrily. “I’m not little anymore! So stop calling me that!”
Surprised at her reaction, he said, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean-“
“Yeah, like you didn’t mean to leave without saying goodbye!” She
turned her back on him, crossing her arms.

The tone from the controls indicated that the transfer was ready. He
looked at the glowing pad, then back at Mina. “Please,” he said,
placing a hand on her shoulder. “Let’s not part like this. I’m really
sorry that I didn’t come looking for you to say goodbye.” He
playfully tugged her red ribbon on her head with his other hand, but
she still didn’t budge. “Lit-, I mean, Mina, please?”
Biting her lip, Mina felt her tears well up in her eyes. Letting out
a sob, she turned and flung herself in his arms again. “Oh, Kunzite,
I forgive you! It’s just that I’ll miss you so!” She looked up at him
as the tears flowed down her cheeks again. “You’ll think about me all
the time, won’t you? ‘Cause I’ll always think about you!”
Wiping the tears away again, he smiled. “Of course, I will.”
As he lowered his head, Mina held her breath. ‘He’s going to kiss
me!’ she thought. But she made a disappointed face when he only
kissed her forehead. She reluctantly let him go as he pulled away
from her and walked to his transfer pad. When he stood on it, he
nodded, and she nodded back, flicking on the switch.
As he started to disappear, he called out, “Goodbye, Little Mina!”
Then he realized his error. “Sorry!” Then he was gone.
Mina stared at the blinking green light, indicating he arrived safely
home. “When we meet again, Kunzite,” she said to herself. “I won’t be
little anymore. You’ll see!”

Three years have passed…

The bodyguards of Endymion trained, sweated and studied. They learned
a lot of defensive and attack movements, and they also learned a lot
of history from the other planets of the Silver Millennium as well as
their own. When the time came, they were elevated to the ranking
position of General, thus accomplishing their goals as Guardians of
the Earth. Their first few tests occurred after a few days when they
were appointed Generals. It all started when strange creatures began
attacking a few homes, some towns, then a lot of cities. The
Guardians proved themselves to be reliable when they confronted and
defeated the creatures. There were a few minor disasters, and, sadly,
some losses of life, but the people of Earth looked up to the heroic
Generals who are doing their best to protect them. They are very
resourceful as well, teaching the people how to prepare themselves
for future attacks. The Guardians also concentrated to find out where
the creatures were coming from, yet so far they found nothing. Until
one day, when Prince Endymion was attacked.

Kunzite received a call from his communicator from the Prince.
“Guardians!” the Prince yelled. “I need your assistance! Hurry!”
After Endymion gave him the location of where he is, Kunzite summoned
the other Guardians and led them to where their Prince is. They
arrived at a city where people are running and screaming in their
direction, so the Generals ran past them in the opposite direction.
In the middle of the public square, they see their Prince fending off
two huge creatures with his sword and flying red roses. Crying out
battle cries, the men attacked the creatures from behind.
“My Prince!” shouted Kunzite. “Run for cover! We’ll distract them!”
“I can’t” Endymion shouted back. “I must protect her!” He indicated a
small form wrapped in a dark cloak, who was kneeling and trembling
behind him.
“Why isn’t the Prince running for cover?” Jadeite yelled as he and
Nephrite fought one beast.
“There!” Zoisite pointed to the small form, then leapt out of the way
just as the other creature, the one he and Kunzite were fighting,
missed him as it hit and cracked the ground. “He’s protecting
someone!”
“Are the creatures after him or that person?” Nephrite yelled as he
struck his sword at the creature.
“It doesn’t matter! We must stop them before they get them!” Kunzite
started gathering energy. “Guardians, hit the creatures by combining
our attacks together!” The Generals followed suit, also gathering
energy.

“SPHERES OF FIRE…CHARGE!”
“STAR SWORD…STRIKE!”
Jadeite and Nephrite wiped out one creature.

“ZOI-PETALS…PULVERIZE!”
“SPHERES OF ENERGY…BLAST!”
Kunzite and Zoisite wiped out the other.

The men ran to their Prince who was helping the small figure stand
up. They all gasped in shock as the figure removed the cloak hood
from her head. A pair of golden ponytail locks fell around her
shoulders, and she had a moon symbol on her forehead. “Princess
Serenity!” They kneeled before her, bowing their heads.
“Good work, Guardians!” Endymion held the Princess close to him. “I
was discreetly escorting Serenity home when we were suddenly
attacked.”
“I am here to help your Prince to find out who is behind these
attacks, but now I wonder if it’s more than that.” Serenity went on
explaining, “Despite these attacks on your planet, Endymion has never
been targeted. That is, until I arrived today. The question is: Who
is the real target?”
Caressing her cheek, the Prince stared lovingly into her eyes. “I
don’t know, my dear, but my Generals and I will do our best to find
out.”
“The Generals!” Serenity smiled at them as they all stood up. “Of
course, the Guardians of the Earth! I thank you for saving our lives.
And a very good strategy by your leader here!”
“Unofficial leader, Your Highness,” Kunzite corrected. “I am General
Kunzite.”
The others followed suit. “General Zoisite.”
“General Nephrite.”
“General Jadeite.”
“I thank you all again. My mother, Queen Serenity, will be so
grateful for your brave acts.” Then she opened her eyes in
excitement. “I know it’s been almost 3 years since you’ve visited the
Moon, but would you please come and visit us again? I would very much
like for you to meet the Guardians of the Moon Kingdom, the Sailor
Senshi.”
‘Sailor Senshi?’ thought Kunzite, shocked. ‘Isn’t that what Little
Mina said she was going to be?’ Stepping up, Kunzite slightly bowed
before the Princess. “It would be an honor, Your Highness.”
“Then it is settled,” Endymion confirmed. “We will arrange the visit
very soon.”

A few days passed…

Preparing to leave for the Moon Kingdom, the Generals waited in the
Royal Conference Room for their Prince. “Kunzite, I swear, you seem
more excited than any of us to visit the Moon again,” Jadeite noted,
as they watched Kunzite, adjusting his cape.
“Actually, I’m hoping to see Little Mina again. I haven’t seen her in
like 3 years,” he admitted. “She is now a Sailor Senshi!”
“Little Mina?” Nephrite gawked in surprise. “Isn’t she the 13-year-
old Venusian princess who chases after you every time we visit the
Moon?”
“Oh, please!” Kunzite laughed. “She was never chasing me, just happy
to see me. And she’s just a kid.”
“You mean she WAS a kid,” Zoisite pointed out. “It’s been 3 years,
and she’s 16 now. An actual lady.”
“Well, I’m sure she still has some of that adorability in her that I
remember back then. It’ll be nice to see her again,” Kunzite said.
“Just don’t expect to see a little girl running to you. Believe me,
it’ll be a surprise,” warned Zoisite.
“Zoisite, just what are you getting at?” Jadeite arched an eyebrow in
suspicion. Turning red, Zoisite turned from his friends.
“The thing is, I’ve been keeping in touch with Princess Ami of
Mercury. She’s a Sailor Senshi also. I’ve grown rather fond of her
over these past years.”
“Whoa-ho! Sounds like our boy here is in love!” Nephrite cheered,
clapping his hands. Zoisite turned redder and shrugged, shyly.
“But what does this have to do with Mina?” Kunzite asked.
“Ami and I communicated through letters. She sent me an old picture
of herself when she was 13. Mina was in that picture, too, being the
same age. Well, Ami now just sent me a recent picture of herself, and
I sent her one of myself as well. She has certainly grown up, and she
looks so beautiful, no more 13-year-old.” Zoisite sighed as he
thought of her. “The point I’m making is Mina is also grown up. I
have not seen a picture of her, but I’m sure she will not be the 13-
year-old that you remember.”
Thinking for a long moment, Kunzite then shrugged. “Well, even if she
is all grown up, she will always be ‘Little Mina’ to me!”

At the Moon Palace…

“I want to thank you for rescuing my daughter, Princess Serenity,”
Queen Serenity said, as she walked to each of the Generals and,
lastly, the Prince, placing medals on their uniforms. “You are
awarded the Moon Medals of Courage and Heroism. And I decree that you
are allowed access to visit our Moon Kingdom. I am indebted to you
all.”
Clapping in glee, the Princess walked over and took the Prince’s arm.
“Mother, with your permission, I would like to introduce them to the
Sailor Senshi!”
“Of course, my darling. Whatever you wish!”
Serenity led them to the Royal Gardens. At the center stood four
young ladies wearing sailor uniforms. They faced the approaching
party. As the visitors stood before them, each Senshi announced
herself. “Sailor Mercury, a.k.a. Princess Ami of Mercury.” She smiled
at Zoisite who smiled back while the other girls introduced
themselves.
“Sailor Mars, a.k.a. Princess Rei of Mars.”
“Sailor Jupiter, a.k.a. Princess Mako of Jupiter.”
Kunzite’s eyes bulged in shock as the blonde Sailor Senshi with the
familiar red ribbon on her head spoke.
“Sailor Venus, a.k.a. Princess Mina of Venus.”

Thunderstruck, he gazed at ‘Little Mina’ before him. There was no
sign of the adorable little girl who ran down the halls of the Palace
to greet him. Her golden blonde hair has gotten longer and fuller,
her small figure has developed into a slender, graceful form, and her
face was transformed from a cute face of a kid to a lovely grown up
lady. As Serenity introduced the Generals, he mouthed quietly in
Sailor Venus’ direction, “Mina?”
Watching his reaction when he saw her made Mina shiver inwardly, and
she happily thought, ‘Not ‘Little Mina’ anymore, am I, Kunzite?’
